The Sumerians and Akkadians did not see one another as Foreign, Their cultures had intermingled for literally all of Mesopotamian history to this point and as another aside, the capital of the Akkadian empire of Sargon was actually called Agade, though in fairness you wont find it called that anywhere in most modern sources, it is however featured on a lot of your maps in the video. Sorry Ive spent the last two days watching a Great Courses Plus series on Mesopotamia.

Climate Change forced the drought striken Gutians down from the mountains. it nearly destroyed the entire N Africa, Egyptian Delta, and MIddle East. Radical and Rythmic Climate Changes are behind every barbarian invasion throughout history. The Suns variable Solar Radiation and Earths wobble and orbit are always ignored by simplistic historians. sand this is why Abram left Sumer for Palestine starting the Biblical story.

Whaaaat quite a lot is known about Shulgi; he completed the Zigaruts and finalised the law code and centralised all government, mathematics and calenders. He also united the sides of the empire-to-be that his father had continually failed at. Historians widely claim his deeds to have been considerably greater than his father's. You've actually attributed to Ur-Nammu several things his son did, and not he.

It really should have been mentioned that this is the time in which the story of Abraham is set. Even if you don't believe that story, you should be familiar with it, and the existence of an empire based in Ur having tributaries as far as Canaan gives some context to the story of a prosperous citizen of Ur first travelling to Haran and then settling in Canaan.

Really good video as usual, but just one detail the dates dont completely match up, since the gutian invasion is mentioned to have happened mid 22century bc and approx 100 years till the rise of utuhengal but the latter is dated 2123? so like right after the fall of akkadians? Im guessing it may be due to different historical interpretations of dates from ancient texts

Good video, just one little thing in relation to the Gutians. You should be very careful about stating the interests of people who definitely didnt write their history about themselves. The Akkadians had much interest in making the Gutians seem barbaric and different from themselves, I would take the Akkadian account with a big grain of salt.

In fact 'Sumer' or 'Shumer' was called 'Ki-En-Gir' (land of the civilized kings / Kingdom of the Blazing Fire) by people who lived there in that time 6000 years ago. The name 'Ki-En-Gir' was the original name of this ancient civilization, the first occupiers of 'Ki-En-Gir', the Akkadians changed the name to sumer.

Eye for an eye will truly come full circle in the case of the Anglo-Americans destroying Iraq, as their own societies wither away and fall to ruin, serving as an admonishment for the price of warfare in faraway lands against innocent people.

Here's an observation you can have for free:
The reason Egypt committed such tremendous resources into building in stone, is because they saw the former glory of Sumerian mud brick architecture literally crumbling into dust.

Love the way how you delve into a period and single out these events. I know all the grand history because I am a histroy guy myself but not the small details. Are you planning any video's on Chinese history?

5: 00 Let me correct you. The oldest extant evidence for a law code is tablets from the ancient archives of the city of Ebla, which date to about 2400 BC. -Encyclopedia Britannica.

Awesome video but I think an exploration of the culture of the barbarians would provide a broader context regarding the various conflicts. Future video hopefully?

Still cant believe Sumerian is a language isolate surrounded by the more prolific Semites/Semitic languages such as Akkadian and Arabic.
