thelstan Half-King & the making of England Kiani: I believe that Aethelstan Half-King was descended from Alfred's older brother Ethelred 1st who predeceased him and thus would have had a claim to the throne by primogeniture since Alfred's House was the cadet line. I notice that you have referred to this line in the ancestry of Godwine. It was the East Anglians that backed the Benedictine party of St Dunstan (also a relative) which was why he may have been retired when that party lost out.

English history is always confusing. Angles, saxons, brits in Brittany, the welsh. I think I have a firm grasp after this and many other videos. But why was the welsh kingdoms never absorbed into the English? The hill country was too hard to conquer? Why didnt the welsh help against the Danes?

The Angles, Saxons, Jutes & Friesians(Anglo-Saxons) were themselves on Viking raids back in the 5&6th centaury and are the ancestors of the later Vikings and the Normans! all one continuous repopulation from British to a more Germanic/Scandinavian country.

Anglo Saxon and Norse history is always interesting, but would you perhaps consider doing some more content from this time period outside of this area? Maybe some stuff about the various powers around the Mediterranean or about Sub-Saharan Africa?

The Alexander the great rule. You don't to be great without a great supporting cast. One of the reasons athelstan achieved what he did was also thanks to men like athelstan the half king!

Would like to know a general opinion on whether Aethelstan Half-King's wife Aelfwynn and Aethelflaed's daughter Aelfwynn are in fact one and the same person.

A good Aryan king. Think if he looked out on his subjects in England today; what would he think? 'Am I the king of the floor of a rabbit's hutch? '.

the norse were overrated. if tey were all that, they would not have got reconquered and incorporated into an ENGLISH kingdom.
