The ancient Greeks are a bunch of liars and it is being proved time and again by archaeology. The ancient Greeks hated the Persians for a reason. For more than 200 years the Greeks were crushed by the Persians. Athens was under the feet of the Persian kings at one time and it was completely burnt to the ground by the Persian army during the reign of Xerxes the First - the sole reason they were crying out for a liberator. Alexander may have defeated the last Persian king but he was thoroughly beaten on the borders of India and his ambitions clipped and his army that which came on snorting horses was sent back on sailing ships with the wounded and diseased Alexander in tow down the Indus into the Indian Ocean only to take his respite at the great Persepolis to breathe his last in the luxury of the gardens of the Persian King of kings.

Iran thank u for your service to mankind, your glorious past is amazing, which is unfortunately ignored by my fellow western historians. only empire against slavery, men and women had equal rights, religious freedom, labor rights etc.
Alexander destroyed much and dragged the world to darkness, but the Caliphate destroyed everything u had. It would take the rest of the world 5000 years to catch up on these rights. U were ahead by 1000s of years. But now look at u, imprisoned by Abrahamic religions.
Iran u need to revive your Vedic aryan culture for God, for mankind, and most importantly for the Iranian people!

I don't think it's a wonder that there isn't historical documentation describing Cyrus's own religious affiliation. It's for the same reason he was so tolerant of others' religions. He was keenly aware that by keeping it ambiguous he could preclude alienation from the melange of beliefs under his reign and allow all of them to interpolate Cyrus himself into each of their cannons. Declaring his religion would've deterred them all from grafting him into their tales and spurred conflict between competing theologies. Believe what you will knowing all too well that they will include him for the gratuity he afforded them. Very sagacious Cyrus.

the thing is that all you saying is from hirodotus books and they just are not valid today, herodotus wrote lies about history, persians were friendly people not invaders, every were they go they teach those people and bring peace to world, thats why sirus is called great in every culture you go

It should be noted that the whole left over scrips are biased cuase all of them are written by enemies historians and even the most fair one of them would have take his country's side, on the other hand there is not much documents left by persians or their allies due to multiple invasion of persia(iran) such as alexander's invasion or genghiz' invasion and burning the ducuments and scrips.

As an Iranian I find it both amusing and sad how the west treats my country as if we're some recently established ex-colony they can push around and then are surprised at our lack of compliance. Our collective memory goes millennia before they were touched by civilisation and we are oh so hard to impress by Imperial might. Take it from me, it comes and goes before you know it

Persians 550 years before Christ They had the first laws of human rights and ruled over 1/3 of the world's people and did not force any people to leave their culture and language. But now they make movies like 300 for people who have not received proper education, they make monsters out of the Persians As a Persian, this is very sad and strange for me

One can only begin to appreciate the tremendous talent, intellect, humanity, religious and cultural tolerance as well as organizational skills it took to build the first and largest empire ever (population wise, that achieved so much and lasted so long!
Specially since Persians were one of the smaller ethnic groups at that time.

HT? You do an extraordinary job of historical exposition. You've made me want to do a History degree. I don't believe it will help me in my STEM career but I want to do it for myself because it's stuff I want to understand before I die. Are you able to advise me on how I might approach this?

05: 00 It's well recorded and known that the Persians copied prostration in front of the King or emperor from the Chinese and that Christians copied that. The Greeks are not known for prostrating in front of their Gods at all, because of that Persians introducing it into the West thing.

If it wasn't for the continued aggression of the Persian Empire into Europe, then the European Empires that followed probably wouldn't have existed. Certainly not to the same capacity. The Greeks were truly an astonishing peoples to defy and defeat the mighty Persians!

Sorry to point this out, but the ancient Persians did not worship the elements; they were Zoroastrians, which was the first monotheism known to man. Their god was called Ahuramazda and they did not worship fire; Rather, they thought of it as an aspect of purity.

Reading about the Mittani Empire, I suspect Mittanis could have been the forefathers of both Medes and Sindh-Gangetic cultures (Vedic civilization. And Mittanis themselves descended to the Iran from Euraisan steppes.
