How Gold Led to the (1/2 Correct) First Laws of Electricity: How Static Electricity Works

These videos tell the story of the people who discovered how electricity works. This one is on Charles DuFay who discovered how static electricity works and that their are two types of electricity way back in 1731! This is the fifth video in my series of The Secret History of Electricity. My name is Kathy and I love Physics and the strange, crazy, hidden stories behind all of our electronics and electrical theories. These stories are historically and scientifically accurate but also funny and quirky as hell. Enjoy! As usual

These videos are entertaining, well presented and very informative.
They are illuminating topics in the histoty of electromagnetism that have been forgotten.
The presentation is only marred my the mental musak in the background. This serves no useful purpose and only distracts from the message.
Keep up the good work. I like your enthusiasm, it is infectuous.

Thank you so much! I have learned a lot from your videos. They are really interesting. The way you communicate the facts is really enganging (sorry for my orthography, English is not my mother language. Do you have videos about modern physics? How they discovered X-rays, electrons and so forth? If not I strongly suggest you do them. Thanks Again!

KATHY! How come it took me YEARS to find your shows. I've been on a binge listen for a few days now (I keep the tab hidden so I can listen here at work; ) ). I really like your style and delivery of these topics (Just found the playlist for these History of Science shows WHOOP). I hope you're still knocking these out, they're awesome. Cheers

You are doing a very good job mam and you explain so well and we can imagine to create that time when it was all going to be discovered. I am a teacher and it helps me a lot to explain the basic questions and queries of students regarding electrostatics and electricity. Thanks a lot Mam

Oh good. I was right. I like your videos. I wonder if this electricity thing is just a fad or if it will catch on? I guess I will just have to keep watching the series to find out. I hope I could make a living from this stuff. No. Wait. :)

Youve got me hooked! I saw a recent video that interested me, went back and watched a few more related to it. Now I am watching them all, having gone back to start at number 1. I cant help myself! Nicely done.

Love your awesome stories. I think the music is a bit too loud and makes it difficult to follow the story. In the earlier videos 1. 4, the background music level is perfect.

charge attract neutral isn't correct even in that time. Charge induce charge separation in neutral, which was known that time, and the opposite charges attract.

at 6: 13 u said electrons moving out however. its the electrical / magnetic field which moves and not the electrons. pls correct me if i am wrong. thanks

4: 10 On humid days, water droplets would carry away the charge, and no further electrical experiments could be. conducted!
