When did Persia become Iran? Documentary Dailamite: For a long time lran was under arab, turk then western control but thanks to God finally it is being ruled by lranics even though it is still not ideal. Iran can not be considered to belongs to persian people. There is no specific ethnicity such as persian, kurd, azeri etc. but there are persian speaking lranics. And any lranic can speak any other lranic languages this doesn't matter but the persian dialect is most widely used. An arab can understand arabic of 7th century but a persian speaking people can not understand even %30 of language of Sassanid era. Even though it is called middle persian we understand more than southern iranians who live in pars region. The word Persian describes Arian people who live in pars region. Since it was capital all of lran was called Persia later. In fact southern lranics who live in pars region did little for lran. They have easily submitted to enemies and writing poems instead of defending their land. On the other hand northern lranics have fought to the end even they were outnumbered. If there weren't Parthians Iran would be speaking greek now, Until Buyids humiliated arabs and restored pride of lranics, all of southern lranics were fully submited to arabs. Again during turkic/mongolic invasion southern lranics fully submited to enemy instead of fighting they were writing poems for invaders. but north lranics did not submitted to turks they have fought to the end. Alamut was the symbol of resistance. Reza pahlavi was also from north lran who has put an end to turkic era in central lran but the pahlavi dynasty couldn't stay lranic and knelt down in front of the west. After 1000 years central lran has started to gain its lranic character again since 1979.

A bit late to the video (if 2 years can be considered a bit, but I've found a large Iranian community in Orange County, California when I first moved here over a decade ago, and interestingly most people including some Iranians refer to themselves as Persian. I was corrected at some point and rarely use the term now, but after watching this I think the example stemming from the UK probably caught on here somehow.

I down voted your video for referring to the NASDP as 'Nazis' 1: 35 the Nazi Party never existed, the word Nazi is a racial slur used against white Germans in the 1920's-30's meaning Redneck, hillbilly or country bumpkin that the allies latched onto and is still used to this day in political propaganda videos.
Would you refer to the Green party or Democratic party of America as the 'Lib'Tard' party?

reply

this is not strange! we Iranians having our own names for some countries!
for instance:
ALMAN= Germany
LAHESTAN= Poland
MAJARESTAN= Hungary
YOONAN= Greece
ENGELIS or ENGELESTAN= United Kingdom
apart from ENGELIS that refers to England, does anyone from above countries now why we call them these names? do they have any roots in your history?

reply

The name Iran is a name of thousands of years And the name of Iran is engraved on Achaemenid coins
It means the land of the Aryans
The Persians were only a part of the three Aryan tribes and Iran today is made up of three Aryan tribes So it is not right to have only the name of a tribe on this country.

This seems odd to me because my grandparents are from Iran. Shiraz specifically. They and all their family that moved to the US w them all refer to themselves as Persian. I have met other ppl w family from Iran who also call themselves Persian. So I wonder whats up with that
reply

WRONG INFORMATION. Reza changed its name because he wanted to create a fake nation called Iran. Persia is the real name of the government because Persians have captured our lands, and want to govern us with the fake name of Iran. KURDISTAN IS NOT IRAN!
reply

0: 24, nope! Farsi is the Arabized version of Parsi, as Arabic doesn't include the letter P. they call Pepsi 'Bibsi' for example. I don't know of I want to waste my time any more seeing as less than 30 seconds in and you got this simple point wrong!
reply

Persia is incorrect. There are millions of different ethnicities living in Iran for thousands of years and calling it by the name of one specific ethnic group which historically had really the least time ruling over Iran is incorrect.
reply

ok Germany wants from now everyone to call the country Deutschland, no more Germany, Allemagne, Germania, Alemania, Saksa, Niemcy, Tyskland and so on. lol. some people create problems where there are none. see Ivory Coast.
reply

England: Hahaha we don't care what you call yourself, we're going to call you whatever we want cause its easier.
Also England, when people use the wrong version of UK/Britain/England/Europe: WELL AT LEAST, OUR SCHOOLS

reply

Little do westerners know that when we are really angry at each other, we sometimes start calling Iranians different name and vice versa. They call us the sons of Umayya or Umayyads and we call them Safavids or Zunists
reply

Here in india we used to called them Farash ( Persia) and there language would be called Farsi and their religion would be called Parsi (Zoroastrianism. But i really like iran a lot. wish i can visit iran sometime.
reply

One day in Rome I was approached by a guy that said he was from Persia. Really I don't understand why he didn't use the word Iran. was he ashamed for the regime or was he using a sort of Latin name for his country?
reply

Interestingly, in the US, no one says they are of Iranian descent (perhaps because of the hostage crisis in 1979-80. They describe themselves as Persian, even though their relatives/ancestors came from Iran.
reply

Countries who change their names become failed states; Persia = Iran, Burma = Myanmar, Rhodesia = Zimbabwe, Zaire = Congo. your name is your identity and you should never change it
reply

2: 30
Persia didn't existed at all
It always has been iran,
So saying that it doesn't exist since 1400 years ago is not true cuz even in 1400 years ago it was called Iranshahr

reply

But there are 10% persian and 80% medus actualy mad
10 procent others
They call thair country IRAN becaus of that they never call them self as persia (west made this story)

reply

To me, the name Persia evoques exotism, luxury, and somehow children histories from the past. Aladdin, the 1001 nights, the servant and Death, etc. It's a really cool name.
reply

I used to work for a man from Iran and his niece. They both referred to themselves as Persian.
But what I want to know is, where did the Persian Cats come from?
