The Spanish-American War - Explained in 11 minutes I AM GOING TO EXPLAIN WHAT REALLY HAPPEND IN THIS WAR AND THE REASON UNITED STATES WON-
The United States government knew that conquering those territories was an impossible mission, so they opted for the following tactic: BRIBING THE SPANISH MINISTERS TO LET THEM WIN. -
The United States bribed them with 30 million dollars and they did their part. -
That is why in all the naval battles the Spanish ships left port at full speed towards the American ships without shooting and one by one, so that they would be sunk easily, those stories about the Spanish ships being of very poor quality. and ancient is a myth, they just suicided. In Cuba, for example, there was a garrison of 360, 000 Spanish soldiers and the attacking American army was 30, 000 soldiers. The Spanish ministers forced the Cuban general to surrender under death penalty. This is how the American army managed to conquer Cuba, the same in the other territories. When the war ended, in the peace treaty the United States paid 20 million dollars to Spain, that was the rest of the bribe for letting them win.\r\n

Colonies: We're a nation, help us fight the oppressive English king.
Spain: Sure thing amigos, we'll send troops and ammunition.
USA: The amigos have been expelled from Mexico, let's take some of that land. and well since we're at it, let's grab as much as we can and get the Frenchies out of marsh country.
Spain: silence. well, damned beaners, you got what you deserve
USA: That's right!
USA: Spain, you're oppressing poor Cubans, never mind our nigro population.
Spain: Mind your own freaking business Yankees.
USA: Gotta get those guys out of the Americas too, let's blow a ship, send some ships in advance to the Philippines and claim it's all done in the name of liberty.
Spain: Well, screw it, it's already been centuries in this God-forsaken continent, let's go back home for good now.
USA: Gracias Amigos, our corporations will now run Cuba and place dictator like shady figures as heads of state.
Cuba 60 years or so later: Enough, Viva Fidel.
And here we are in 2023.
The End

This is nonsense from the establishment, English is not my first language, so bear that in mind before criticizing my spelling, the point is that is obvious that there is a gap in intelligence between racial groups, if there weren't how could you explain that there is not a single country in Africa which has a decent life level. That also applies inside the rich countries, there is not a single state where black people constitute the majority of its population, and at the same time, that state is known for being rich. -
I am a latin American and I have no problem acknowledging that the reason for our lack of development is our Spanish heritage, Spaniards are known throughout Europe for being lazy and corrupt, the same features we have in latin America, there is no doubt, You can say whatever you want but the evidence is strong enough.

This war was a shame of american imperialism were Spain was humiliated and was a bound that never healed.
The case of Puerto Rico was specially humiliating. No independence movement there were there, people felt Spanish. It was just stolen by force. I have been reading in detail about the peace attempts from Spanish kingdom. USA just wanted those territories.
What is the meaning of a military ship like the main in a Spanish port?
Not only that, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Philipinas were not a colonies, they were territories with power in the Spanish congress from the first Spanish constitution.
Nowadays Puerto Rico is not even an american State with the same rights than the rest.
The link between Puerto Rico and Spain was broken after a decade of anti-spanish propaganda.

The Filipino-American war, for all its worth, effectively ended American -hard imperialism-. After 20 years of battling resistance, Americans asked -What are we getting out of this? Money for giant corporations? A colony we have to spend money maintaining? - While this didn't end imperialism, as we see with the puppet governments in Iraq and Afghanistan, it's fatal trying to impose our way of life oceans away for the sake of the military-industrial complex, because commoners get nothing out of it other than dead sons, brothers, and husbands. The Filipinos lost, but they had the last laugh.

Oh please, the United States was trying to take Spains territory since 1840
And when you talk about Spaniards you are talking about PUERTO RICANS let me remind y-all that our Puerto Rican ancestors where SPANIARDS until the United States BOMB & INVADED OUR ANCESTORS
The United States STOLE Spains PROVINCE because Puerto Rico was the 1ST PROVINCE OF SPAIN. And THREATENED Spain to BOMB the Canary-s and the peninsula, that-s the thank you the United States gave Spain after Spain HELPED THE UNITED STATES GET ITS INDEPENDENCE
By the way the Paris treaty is ILLEGAL

Cuba and Puerto Rico were Spanish (or castillian) from 1429. much much before United stated even existed. Cuba and Puerto Rico always was a Spanish territory as any other. These territories were always part of Spain from its foundation (with the catholic kings. They always had the same rights than the mainland. People in all Spanish America were mestizos. When Spain acquired a liberal constitution in 1812 these territories were represented as any other. The first train in Spain were in Cuba. They acquired additional autonomy at the end of the XIX.

Theodore Roosevelt wanted to annex ALL the carribean islands, and realize the idea the Confederacy had had during our Civil War!
Had the US done so, Cuba would not have become a communist country, the Americanized islands would have ended up becoming English speaking enclaves, and nearly all the Spanish and mixed inhabitants of the islands would have been pushed toward Spain proper, and the US would have then dominated the sugar. Molasses, Rum, & tobacco industries that the leftover inhabitants of the islands

The Maine battleship was bombed from inside not from outside. WAs all a lie by USA. Blaming Spain for it. it was all planned by USA to bomb his own ship, blame Spain and invade Cuba, Puerto Rico and The Philliphines too. Kill 200 Americans and become an empire. Deal by Washinton and Wall Street done and lie to the world. Pearl Harbor and WW2 was due USA expansion in the Pacific after taking the Philliphines.
reply

This is so USA biased. The USA entered the war just for its whiling to control sugar, tobacco and coffee. They exploded them selves the Main so they had an excuse to enter the War. Classic USA move. The same they did in Iraq with the WMD but 100 years before.
I-m not saying the Spanish were doing any good to the island, but this idea of the USA entering the war for moral reasons is completly false.

The last 3 battles on Puerto Rico, the Americans HAD TO RETREAT BACK. No air support in 1898. PR was surrounded by US Navy, so limited supplies to PR fighters. Lost cause. Spain acceded due US Navy, to accept i think 15 million to sell the island to USA and tell their generals to stop the resistanse. But they fought like Vietnamese did, winning the last 3 battles.

Spanish-American war would be refered to the independence war fought between the spanish american uprising nations.
Yet the title refers as the spanish-american war as a battle between one american country and Spain. This was not the spanish-american war, this a spanish and the USA. Making this nonsense speaks bad from the beginning.

Between Cuba who was trying to gain independence from Spain.

The final comment is odd, implying that the US became imperialist after this war. The US did not expand anywhere in the world after this war. In fact, in winning both WW2 and the Cold War, the US became the only power in history to win major wars, and not take territory as a result of destroying an enemy.

I love how some are calling out the yes hypocrisy of the U. S. especially with regards to the Philippines but conveniently stepping over the brutal and evil Spanish empire that murdered millions of natives from the E. Indies throughout all of South America for over 300 years. -
reply

Let-s get one thing straight. The United States was NOT sympathetic to Cuba. The United States wanted access to Cubas resources. The United States could have never had gotten those natural resources with Spain in their way.

Thank you for producing this video. I feel that this is one of those American wars that often gets overlooked in the American education system, and I was interested in how Puerto Rico became a territory.

Now make a video about the Tordesillas treaty between Spain and Portugal. everything west of the line for Spain everything east to Portugal. surprise! You all are in the west side of the line

That's why we go to school to get the government version of history. Also to love their version and teachings. But at this one we all know that battles are on taking not giving.
reply

10: 28 Laughable. The U. S. went from thirteen 'colonies' on the east coast to ignoring 100+ treaties and further COLONIZING west. stealing an arguable 'asian' peoples land.
