Crusade of Varna, 1444 - The Ottoman Empire becomes a Superpower Correction if I may. Theres one small, major detail in your presentation that is completely wrong: The favor of the Pope for a Crusade stems from the Albanian Lord George Kastrioti and the success of Hunyadi of Hungry. George Kastrioti kept sending emissaries to the Pope, to Aragon, to Hunyadi, and to many Christian rulers to join the Crusade. Kastroti even intervened with an army in Italy to consolidate the position of the King of Naples so that it was possible for a coalition of Crusaders.
Serbs, and Brankovic, not only impeded the Albanians to join Hunyadi, but provided the Ottomans with soldiers and supplies against the Christians.
The 10 year peace treaty that the Sultan sought fearing the Christian coalition was with the Albanian Lord, George Kastrioti, to stay off Albania. It was never about, or concerning Serbia. Serbia was already an Ottoman vassal and Brankovic never betrayed the Ottomans. Serbia was actually rewarded with more territories by the Ottomans.
Furthermore, the Sultan got wind of the Christian scheming from Mara Brankovic, daughter of Durad Brankovic and concubine of choice in the Ottoman Harem. Mara Brankovic became the eyes and ears of Mehmed II.
Marin Barleti, a Catholic priest, historian, and biographer of Kastrioti, recounts that the Albanians were spread too thin, and Brankovic was well protected by the Ottomans, to allow an attack on Brankovic without jeopardizing precious time and major security and resources. According to Barleti, George Kastrioti was very concerned, and furious, he couldnt join Hunyadi because of the Serbs.
Eventually, Kastrioti took the 10 year non violence treaty with the Ottomans and the plans for a Crusade failed. Later on, Kastrioti would still scheme to organize a Crusade, but the Pope died, Venice, Naples, Austrians, Poles, and Hungarians, were always squabbling, so any plans to launch a crusade died when George Kastrioti died of malaria.
In 1680s, John Kastrioti, son of George Kastrioti, gathered an army of Albanian exiles with the support of Aragon, to come to the aide of the Albanian uprising led by a Catholic priest, Peter Bogdani, with the aim of launching a Crusade.
Again the Serbs came to the aide of the Ottomans launching raids against Albanian cities and villages. The Albanian population was already decimated: There was a massive exodus to Italy, Croatia, Vallachia, Moldova, Odessa. Half the population had exiled after the death of George Kastrioti to escape the Ottoman scourge. The nobility had all fled as well. The Austrians to the North also failed to defeat the Ottomans, so the last effort to launch a Crusade failed as well. John Kastrioti returned to Italy, while Peter Bogdani was chopped to pieces by the Ottomans and fed to the dogs.
During these times the Serbs served the Ottomans faithfully with devastating consequences to the Christian populations and to the Christian cause.\r\n

Mehmed II seemed pretty intelligent. That was pretty compelling: -If you're the sultan, come lead your armies. If I am the sultan, I command you to come lead my armies. - What was the story with the cannon maker who built the cannons that took down the Theodosian walls? Something like he offered his services to the Hungarians (or he _was_ a Hungarian) and they turned him down but Mehmed II accepted. I wonder how different history would have been if someone else would have hired the cannon maker.
And it's crazy how many stories there are like this in history - an older, experienced commander gives an order that, if followed, would almost definitely lead to a victory but a younger, inexperienced commander - often in a higher position of power like a king or prince - with a hot head and wanting glory for themselves, defy the order, fall into a position or trap that the older commander expected and that leads to a major loss and often the entire army being wiped out. It's like, even if you significantly outrank them, if they have vastly more experience than you, you might want to listen to them. Like how lieutenants fresh out of college will often listen to the advice of sergeants who have worked their way up even though they outrank them. Pretty common-sensical.

Michael Szilagyi was Vlad the Impaler best friend. Szilagyi would eventually be sowed in half by the Ottomans almost ten years later.
At this battle the Wallachians were led by Vlad the Impaler elder brother, Mircea.
At the time of this battle, his younger brothers, Vlad the Impaler and Radu the Handsome were prisoners of the Ottomans, and Mircea was under strict order by their father to go light on the Ottomans or he would risk the boys lives.
Nevertheless, Mircea was the only one to inflict serious damage and sack the Ottoman right wing after swinging from his position to jump to the aid of Michael Szilagyi.

Ottomans ideally knows how to exploit from their subjects and melt them into one basket that only big empires have that ability. This is why ottomans continuation of Eastern Rome. Other in Europe just like a small Beyliks. Their vision is so small. As an example, do you see any Muslim in Spain? or situation came over Huguenots in France. But Ottomans allow to preserve culture of all their elements in empire even if they are from counter religous order.

I like to watch battles in the Middle Ages where they fought with swords and many weapons. what struck me at the Battle of Varna was that the young prince Vladislav disobeyed Hyuniadi's orders because he told him to stay and not attack But as an inexperienced leader, he wanted to conduct the battle his own way, which ended in his death

Imagine what powerful states would've been in the Balkans if the Ottomans never existed. The poverty in Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, wouldn't be if the ottomans didn't suck the resources from these places for hundreds of years. Y'all who are living in poverty in these regiions must thank Turkey for that.

13. 36 slained? Its not even a word in English. Its slain or slayed. You should be concerned considering english is your native language. These are not foreign words they are English. 15. 40 you say it correctly - slain in the battle -?

Sultan Murad II abdicated the throne to his son Mehmed II because a trusted saint, Haci Bayram Veli told him a prophecy that Mehmed, and not Murad would conquer Constantinople. So he just wanted to see that conquest while he is alive.

Ottomans did not win at battle of Kosovo 1389 they lost a large amount of there army and there sultan was killed and they retreated to anatolia after this battle so it-s a Serbian victory, I just wanted to correct you on that one

at 10: 00 there is a huge inaccuracy: Brankovic did not participate in the Crusade of Varna! He had accepted the peace offered by Murad II (and he actually prevented Skanderberg from joining the Crusaders)
reply

The number of crusaders were 40-50, 000. On the other hand, the Murad's army was fewer than them. However, the shrewdness and excellent knowledge and tactics of the Turks turned the tide of the battle.

For those of you who don't know John Hunyad was actually a romanian from Transilvania, thats why he wanted to command the romanian troops (his actual name was Ioan de Hunedoara)

People sucking off a victory in which the Ottomans had more soldiers and fought an army which could barely comunicate with how many diffrent languages were spoken

the Achilles heel of crusades to many commanders fighting for their glory instead of winning; the main advantage of ottomans in all crusades fought against them
reply

-One army, a real army united behind one leader with one purpose. - The crusaders had several leaders with different purposes, that's why they didn't succeed.

The number of crusading army is really high. Here, their number is intentionally presented very low. This is ridiculous.
