Jews were heavily involved with the silk road having a near monopoly on Indigo Dye and Silk Dyeing in the Mediterranean and having merchants in every port to receive the goods from the east (merchant of Venice. They were also some of the few permitted to bring goods straight to the Frankish Kingdoms in Central Europe. Many terms for weights and exchange come from Hebrew or various Jewish dialects as they had a strict law guided by the Torah on transactions and how they should be handled. They could also generally read, write and calculate numbers because of the tradition of reading and writing the Torah.

Maybe it-s just me but i think the Silk Road didn-t make much impact on regular Han folks(the mixed local Chinese, non-wealthy merchants and nobles, they didn-t acquire any techniques or tools to make their lives better, like sanitizing and hygiene, using hot water and cleaning were popularized by CCP and now still a boomer things. let alone food and seasoning, I reckon this hassle road was just an unofficial trades between different empires(silk to horse)and they didn-t think of it as an cultural exchange program and all the other discoveries were just unexpected side products

The silk route brought trade between the East and West but the sea route saw robbing and stealing in the Far East from the West. That, the program chose to leave out or ignore this hideous crimes against humanity. Nothing much has changed. Now the western govt and their media are on another mission to demonizing everything China.

Marco Polo was actually quite late. After Mongols empire unified the continent, you didn't have to apply for visas crossing borders. There are no regional conflicts that prevent people from going eastward. The moguls are brutal, but the peace after it enabled the exchange of everything in Eurasia.

The Great wall of China or the 'Imperial Highway', as it was known in China was the silk road. built using Roman measurements it was built as a raised safe route with a tower every Roman mile.
This would explain why Marco Polo made no mention of a Great wall in any of his writings.

You haven't given India its due. Because the age of discovery started because of silk route was blocked. But the european didn't leave to look for China but India. Even the roman empire bought goods from India and they have written their coffers of gold silver are getting empty, etc.

Interesting differences in cultural mindset between China and the West. From Europe deceiving and stealing silk know-how to China purchasing horses and opening trade routes. I guess nothing changed today. The barbarians stay barbaric no matter how much veneer they try to put on.

In what way did the Persian royal road lead directly to the US Postal service! Ridiculous claim! Just don't add trash like that, it undermines your reliability entirely. Europe had very extensive post services before the US was even an idea. It didn't come from Persia.

It is interesting to mention that 2 of china's invention during this erareally pushed civilization warfare to newer heights lol, one is the invention of the stirrups and the other, gunpowder. On the civilized side, there's the paper making invention.

This is odd. Emperor Wu didn't -create- the Silk Road. He discovered something that already existed. Your video makes it sound like it's a top-down enterprise, when in fact it was a bottom-up phenomena.

One other & earlier traveller over the whole Silk Road was a Chinese monk who was present at the coronation of King Edward I (l don't remember may Edward III) of England. And what about Ibn Battuta?

Overly simplified, several inaccuracies. The ottomans never shut down the silk roads- how could they? They charged heavy taxes and even had a trade agreement with the Republic of Venice.

Most people think silk road start from China and goes west to Europe. But the truth it is start from the center of persia, one goes east to China, one goes west to Europe.

The silk road was only possible after Han defeated Xiongnu and extended its territory to the west region (now Xinjiang. The map of late Han Dynasty should be shown to clarify that.

For anyone interested, I heartily recommend Peter Frankopan's 2015 book, The Silk Roads, I read it just before visiting Uzbekistan and it provided superb context to the visit.
