Thats just me though. Edwards army lost and won battles across Scotland and English militias and pro Edward Scottish militia clans won and lost across Scotland too.
The Scottish Lowlands could of been subdued and secured. Afterall when England Unified with the Northumbrians, Bernician lands in the Lowlands joined England. Using Bernician heritage a Anglo-Saxon group and at the 1300s time similarities between Bernician Scots (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH SCOTS GAELIC) and English language, would of propaganda attempted to get Scottish clans of Bernician and Northumbrian or Danelaw descent to join with the English. Will it work? Probably not as lowlansld Scottish and English aristocrats were Norman not purely Anglic. But thats just what Im saying. If the romans couldnt take the highlands and merely pacify Lowland vassals, I would of sent English troops only to conquer the Scottish Lowlands. Nothing north of the Antonine wall. Which really is a dyke. If you can loose and win battles across the highlands you can concentrate forces to secure and win the Lowlands and reinforce those gains you lost or win then to attempt to regain or lose or gain lands and conquests in the highlands.\r\n

Scots wha hae! As a Southerner, who feels the oppression of the Yankee; yes, I go back before agenda history. I feel the connection to the Scottish/English problem. But alas, that is gone with the wind, as the Scots cold have pulled out by vote awhile back, and declined. As an -American-, yes I believe football has first downs, I believe I am more Scottish than some, maybe most Scots now, for that very reason. They may have a better accent, and know some history, but may resemble their sheep more than their ancestors, as their vote would tell. But, I assume it was a -fair- vote over there unlike the propaganda machine/mail in ballot theft of election here. Oh well Heil TaliBiden! Now, there is something to chew on you sheeple. Keep your head down.

I disliked Scotland and the Scots; the place I found wet and the people rude. They had the fine qualities which bore me - thrift and industry and long-faced holiness, and the young women are mostly great genteel boisterous things who are no doubt bedworthy enough if your taste runs that way. (One acquaintance of mine who had a Scotch clergyman-s daughter described it as like wrestling with a sergeant of dragoons) The men I found solemn, hostile, and greedy, and they found me insolent, arrogant, and smart.

As usual, all we get in these comments is the endless bullying English hatred and contempt for their neighbour, a nation which predates England. It will never end simply because the English have always loathed the Celtic Fringe yet depended upon them for cannon fodder in order to enrich England. The English have been boasting about defeating Scotland with odds that were 10-1 against the Scots. They still treat Scotland by and large with nothing short of contempt. It will never end.

Why is the border almost always wrong. its not hard. it literally follows geography. my guy, many of those castles were very close to the border. the river tweed was the de facto Anglo-Scottish border after the Scottish annexation of Lothian in the 10th century (it was a quite a politically sensitive topic in the 12th & 13th centuries, before the contemporary Solway-Tweed border of today that were all familiar with which dates back to the Treaty of York 1237.

You know what surprised me? The fact that the Scots never tried to repair the Hadrian Walls to prevent the English from coming in by land like at all. Because if they did, the English Kings who attempted to go war with Scotland will either needed a fleet or try to bring down the walls. So yeah, both options are big waste of times, manpower and resources and definitely not worth it.

Great video. The backstabbing and personal ambitions of the upper classes on both sides of the border resulted in many peasant deaths of both English and Scots alike. Sad that the selfish actions of a few self serving rich people has enshrined a long standing distrust between what should be two friendly countries.

The English dont really want it. Been trying to get rid of it for years. The Jocks hate the English, then moan when they leave. The English have given them their own parliament and they still cant get a referendum for leaving to pass.

I'm not much for royalty. But as a man with Blackstock blood in my veins, I can appreciate --what the Scotsman had to do in order to be free of the English crown. Those were some damn tough men in those days. Damn tough indeed.

The scots are one of few to have never been conquered. Few tried, all failed. The Romans, the Vikings(Norse, and the English. Renowned conquerors in their own rights, could never handle the scots. Alba gu brath!
