Turkey was a guarantor country according to the Cyprus constitution and it was not an illegal intervention as the Greeks say. The coup in Cyprus gave rise to Turkey's right to legally intervene in the island. As for the issue of unification from the island, the Greek side. Although they did not accept the plan prepared by the united nations for the unification of the island in 2004 with a charity close to 70 percent, the international community Turkish side continues to be punished despite the Turkish side voting yes by over 80 percent and continues to eat the blessings of the Greek EU by stealing the right of the Turkish side.

Unfortunately, many historical events are jumped over. After 1960, greek cypriots tried to massacre all Turkish Cypriots once and for all in 1963 (akritas plan) though Turkish jets intervened and stopped the actions. Still, until 1974 of greek junta coup, Turkish Cypriots were being murdered and pressurized under inhumane situations. Research better to know the reasons of Turkish operation. Turkish never targeted greek cypriots to be destroyed since 1571, if they wanted, they could have. Instead, they gave greek cypriots freedom of living their religions and lives. Their -megalo idea- always gave them bitter consequences.

I visited Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus last summer. It's beautiful country. They have their own, law, education system, Parliament, hospitals etc. Very safe country. Turkish Cypriots are very nice and friendly. There are many British people who lives in N. Cyprus saying that Greek Cypriots are very racist and rude when they go to South Cyprus for visiting or traveling from airport. Thank God I flight to directly to Ercan airport without any problem and enjoyed our trip. Can't wait to go back again.

I'm not sure how far back you'd have to go before that island was owned by the Greeks.
The Ottomans took it from the Venetians in the 1500s. The British took it from the Ottomans in the late 1800s. Before the Venetians I think the Egyptians had it and at some point the Syrians too.
So I don't understand the logic of asking why the Island isn't -part of Greece. - That Island in the past 1000 years or so has been controlled by everybody and their mother except the Greeks.

Its always The uk and Americans fault, you forgot to add the USA in this mix. We have been forgotten about, we are a European country that is split in 4. Very sad, ideal situation would be the English bases to fk off and the turkish soldiers to leave. But everyone only knows us when they need a holiday or to hide there billions on the Island. If you ask me i would rather we have a full blown out war and we can lose it all or fight for it all.

Actually if you think about turkey's invasion on the island made the Turks of the island secluded from the international community and Greece gained a faithful brother country in the EU and the international community.
The question is did Turkey actually gain anything from invading Cyprus.

wanna know why? Because greece is in NATO for protection only. If greece held Cyprus then US and UK would have a hard time using the island as an unsinkable base to stop africa and asia from raping them into oblivion so there you have ir

Easy to just blame the Brits for an Island that has been in conflict for hundreds of years. and seeing that the current conflict may have more to do with CIA interference, who also created Political turmoil in Vietnam and the Middle East.

You missed something really important. Turkish Cypriots were only 30% of the population when Cyprus became independent but they wanted to be a big part of the government and take the majority of the decisions for the island.

The simplest answer to this question is this:
Communism
They never liked Orthodox countries with long history and tried their best to sabotage them using the Capitalists as an excuse and the working class as a weapon.

At first glance -- solely looking at the map -- I'd ask why isn't Cyprus part of Turkey? - Obviously it's more waaaaayyyyy more complex than location. The demographic makes perfect sense! Thank for the video.

well. duh. everybody knows the turks are mere pawns, they do as they are told. The Greeks are not easily manipulated. You'd be dum to hand over a strategic asset to a clever player.

No. No. No. Greek speaking Cypriots are not ethnic Greek. They are a proud independent country. Yes they enjoy a harmonious relationship with Greece and so it should remain.

Why would it be? Ottomans were the owners of the island before the British occupation and the rightful ownership belongs to their predecessor.
