How did Achaemenid Persia expand? Although the empires territory did slowly decline with all of egypt and the balkan territories being lost, Artaxerxes iii managed to restore the empires power to near peak levels, bringing egypt back under the fold. His father Artaxerxes ii managed to stabilize the empire after two short lived emperors and played the aegean powers against themselves by using subsidies, keeping the threat of the growing greek powers contained. Most of the achaemanid emperors were usually competent. The largest flaw in the satrapy system was whenever the king of kings lost a campaign literally every satrap to the east revolts and the greeks try invading egypt. And court politics kept killing the emperor, his heir or both. To be fair this problem affected most large absolute monarchies.\r\n

The collapse of media was all Harpagus, not cyrus, he put cyrus on the throne, as astyages tells harpagus:
-What you did was the most shameless, the most cruel to the Medes, the most insulting, because you were the strongest, you could put the crown on yourself, not a foreigner, You did all the revolution you had to do, but you did it for someone else, and the crown is for someone else-s head, You have done the utmost wrong because you made a slave the king of Media and destroyed Media, While justice was to get Media and keep Media, not Persia, not exchange Media for Persia, it was sovereignty, not what you did, Yet the Medes are not your partners in your mistake, You have brought a slave in exchange for kings. -

I strongly doubt that even at its height 40% of the world's population was under Achaemenid control. Controlling 3 major population centers in the Indus valley, Egypt and the fertile crescent isn't enough to reach 40%. You are missing 4 entire continents in the Americas, Australia and Europe and in Africa it's only Lybia and Egypt, most importantly China already back in 500BC was immensely populated with its population roughly equal to the contemporary Achaemenid empire.
Population data from ancient times is unreliable at best but 40% simply sounds like one of the outlandish claims people so often make about Rome.

Though i remember a Persian Zoroastrian telling me that incest isn't part of their tradition or religion, that was actually normal for nations of the ancient world specially Egypt though we still can't be sure if all Iranians or at least their nobles and royals did that too
Remember, the only source for this claim is a Greek source
And they're a mix of reality, myth and gossips
According to the sources, Cyrus had children only with his first and true wife, Cassandane, since the mother of all five children of Cyrus, are reported to be her

There is no nation which so readily adopts foreign customs as the Persians. Thus, they have taken the dress of the Medes, considering it superior to their own; and in war they wear the Egyptian breastplate. As soon as they hear of any luxury, they instantly make it their own: and hence, among other novelties, they have learnt unnatural lust from the Greeks. -
-HERODOTUS-

The editing was really poor in this vid. Clearly skipped the exchange between Croessus and the Oracle of Delphi and just jumped into its aftermath, blithely talking as if it had been explained (it had not. Ditto a jarring transition from Cambyses II, and straight into the middle of a story about his successor, Bardiya.
Somebody's getting sloppy.

-_I know this history by heart and 80% of what this dude is saying is false or misinformation. I don't know what his sources are because he is not using Herodotus, which is basically the oldest source and most detailed account of what might have happened. The story of Cyrus is much more epic and beautiful than however this loser makes it seem. _-

Cyrus the great basically was the founder of Iran and the founder of the idea of a nation. he married the daughter of the median king and he united the three indo-aryan houses (Persians, Medes, Parthians) and created Iran as a nation. he is considered the father of Iran (not to be mistaken with the father of -modern- Iran which was Reza shah)
reply

Overthrowing Astyages wasn't easy for Cyrus since he barely had enough manpower during his uprising
Cyrus fought him or his generals in 3 battles and one defeat meant the doom of his whole house
1- Battle of Hyrba
2- Battle of the Persian border
3- Battle/Siege of Pasargadae hill

This vid is does not give the reasons that were promised. Two reasons: 1. Like the Romans, they created roads that allowed fast messaging and fast movement of commerce and armies. 2. The satrap system allowed for efficient goverment.

Achaemenid Persia: We hold 40% of the world population and span across 3 continents!

reply

Cyrus is undoubtedly the greatest king in history, the document of this claim is his charter of human rights, which is the light of the world's eyes
reply

Small detail but the Assyrian empire was destroyed by the Medes and Babylon so at the start the blue nation should say Babylon and not Assyria
reply

Didn't mention the fall of Assyria, they were most likely the most warlike empire of ancient Middle East, Persia rose after their fall.

Kuurush (Kuros) the Great is very underrated. It seems like his fame was overshadowed by Alexander, who couldn't actually be equal to him.
reply

Thank you bro, at this time of Chaos we need to see glimpses of hope about our past, our history is so underrated, i could kiss you.

Media - Kurds Achaemenid Empire had kurds who branched off to what we know today were there before turks and may Persians
reply

People forget that the first Iranian empire was actually the Mede empire which came before the Achaemenid Persian empire.
reply

Persia will surely conquer a lot of territories who else would ever be fail to conquer if Keanu Reeves is the ruler.
reply
