It was clear for both sides that they will end up in a war against each other.
The mustache man declared communism and soviets their enemy many times prior very directly.
They both were preparing for war but needed time to prepare for it. This led to things like non agression pact.
Germany was running out of time as they needed ever more resources for their war industries and especially oil. Also getting food resources was important for germany.
Soviets had a lot of equipment stacked like planes close to the new' border with germany in poland.
They moved away from previous defensive lines to more offensive oriented positions. This all led to germany easily crushing a lot of soviet equipment and manpower on the border as soviets didnt prepare much for defense there.
Germany was also planting false intelligence prior to barbarossa in prior months and years with fake invasion dates etc. It worked well for keeping soviets confused on germans actual plans and not believing and commiting properly to actual true data and reports of actual barbarossa invasion.

I love how people try to make Germany and Soviets seem like some sort of allies cause they signed a non-aggression but nobody says the same thing about the French and British even though they let Germany take Czechoslovakia without any consequences.
reply

Now they say that the allies never helped us, but it can't be denied that the Americans gave us so many goods without which we wouldn't have been able to form our reserves and continue the war, Soviet General Georgy Zhukov.
reply

Ah, keeping up with the age-old tradition of never showing the historical borders of Bulgaria (edit: and the Balkans as a whole) accurately. Sorry for the nitpick, video's great other than that.
reply

Had stalin listened and prepared enough, the war would have ended the same day coz the Red Army was ordered only to counter-attack and shall not cross into German Borders
reply

The not seas and Soviets had more in common than not. I love how I have to censor one word but not the other which over time kill far more people.

Which second front
The Westfront was pacified at that time and no amphibious landing of the allies were yet to be planned

reply

We only have to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down oh what irony that statement was.
