French was Englands official language from 1066 AD for over 300 more years. the rivalry is no different to England, Scotland and Wales ''in this time all of Englands Kings spoke French only peasants spoke Saxon, Old English. French was the official language of England for about 300 years to be exact 1066 to 1362. since then for almost 500 years after England and France remained at almost constant war. before the 1st World War Britain's military exercises often were based on a French Invasion Of England. France often sided with Scots, Welsh and Irish attempts to rid themselves of English rule. however it was the Norman French who invaded Scotland, Wales and Ireland and bought them under English rule. Germany well German Independent States for a few hundred years were very much aligned with England and German regiments were part of the British Army order of battle mostly against the French, but also during the American Revolution and War Of Independence. this is why British stock make up around 64% of the American population and the next largest ancestry is German in the US. despite WW1 and WW2 Germany is a more natural ally for Saxon English. there are things said in France that Frances worst nightmare was suffering the embarrassment of being Liberated by Saxon Nations, the US, UK, CANADA, .AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND they also include as Saxon ( although Britain since Napoleonic times) has never been just English. Scots, Welsh and Irish were equals in building the largest Empire in history. the famous Duke Of Wellington Napoleons nemesis was born in Dublin. so yes a Union of Britain and France despite having centuries of intwined commonality with centuries of war is the most unlikely Union there ever could be. Germans, Dutch, Danish (the Saxon areas around the North Sea) and Norwegians are much closer as blood cousins than our French neighbours. many famous English Kings were buried in their ancestral homeland King Richard The Lion Heart is one ( Plantagenet royal tombs at the French abbey of Fontevrault ) the most famous of Crusade Warriors was King of England indeed but did not speak English only French.

It wasn't even the last time this was considered. In 1956, during the Suez-Canal crisis, the French Primeminister Guy Mollet suggested to the British to merge the two countries under the name 'Frangleterre'. Reasons was that France at the time was economically having a tough time, and even tougher times with its colonies. The suggestion though was brushed off by the Brits immediately and then promptly forgotten, and only rediscovered in 2006 in British archives.
And since the Brits refused closer cooperation with the French, France instead opted for a slowly growing closer cooperation with West Germany.

Despite feeling defeated, and the low morale, France still had many troops in uniform, armed, and mobilized across the nation. What they did not know was, due to the speed of capitulation, the Germans were exhausted, and needed months of resupply, rest, and refit to consolidate their gains. In those very crucial weeks, a strong counterattack from both England and France could have carried the field. The Germans stopped because they had to.
But it was the time of Dunkirk, of retreats, of fear. And of missed opportuities.

If France would eventually form the EU with the main rival (because, seriously, whoever was in charge in Germany was historically a much bigger enemy than England, there was a chance for it to work. Now the British, on the other hand.
As for it working, Germany was on the verge of logistical collapse. It would have been funny if the world had seen just how little long term fighting ability Germany still had.

If this union happened it would be like a European version of Canada
Also would probably be the 3rd most powerful country in the world behind the US and USSR and Brexit vote would have been for remain

I'm gonna comment on this: the french dub is AWFUL. This automatic voice has no tone or charm unlike the english one. Really I don't think it's a good idea to dub your videos.

Why Didn’t the Franco-British Union Happen
Because why Brexit happened.
English are selfish, arrogant, not team players and ignorant.

reply

No way in hell it would have lasted after the close of the war there’s just way too much mistrust and long term animosity
