Left out of this video were the problems of piracy along the N. C. coastline in the early 1700's. It added into the perception of lawlessness and ineffective administration. Piracy was so bad that the Virginia governor ordered his own expeditions there to apprehend pirates, and Virginia was supportive of the idea that North Carolina needed to be separated so that it could be better administered.

The origin of the name Charles and Carolina seems the same, both coming from the Latin Carolus. So probably it's not a coincidence that Charleston is the most populated city in South Carolina
However, another Charleston is the capital of West Virginia. Very confusing, how am I going to remember all this

The colonial capitals of the Carolinas were New Bern NC and Charleston SC. When their land expands, South Carolina's seat of government was moved to Columbia. North Carolina on the other hand has its seat of government moved to Fayetteville, and then to Raleigh.

Roanoke didn't vanish without a trace. Please stop repeating that lie. The colonists packed up and walked a few hours south because the land there was so bad for farming. Ir's literally all documented. There's even a museum there.

The English Lords Proprietors of Carolina was basically North American feudalism. The brief history of feudalism in the Americas is kinda interesting, Canada had some too. Would love a video on it!

The separation was probably the best thing for both states. It allowed each state to focus on its strengths and develop in its own way. I really enjoyed the video, especially the graphics.

As a North Carolinian, I appreciate you did a video on this. Many seem to forget how important the Carolinas are to American history especially even before the United States was founded.

One of my ancestors on the maternal side came to this country as an indentured servant. He later fulfilled his contract and became one of the earliest settlers in Indiana. 4: 55

They were split for the same reasons the Massachusetts Bay Colony (Massachusetts & Maine) & Pennsylvania Colony (PA & Delaware) were. The interests of the people diverged.

So a private enterprise that was too big to fail and then was bailed out by the state.
And no one was held responsible for the corruption and incompetence, of course.

South Carolina, the most un-American state of all time. The biggest traitor state of all time. Still a better state than Florida.
