How to build a whole tone scale and exploring some of its uses. Most musicians are familiar with major and minor scales but what about other scales? The whole tone scale was much used by Debussy and other composers, and it generates a particularly evocative effect. This music theory lesson will be of interest to those needing to learn to play whole tone scales, those wanting to understand music based on whole tone scales, and to composers looking for a different scale base to work in. to the whole tone scale 0:51 - Understanding tones and semitones 3:25 - Building a whole tone scale 4:53 - Using the whole tone scale as a composers

I heard that use can use the whole tone scale only for Dominant chords or Dom 13 chords, I'm not sure what or when to use the whole tone scale but it seems you can only use the whole tone scale when the chord progressions are spaced a whole step apart from each chord or can only use the whole tone scale only for dominant chords?

I just found this after having watched your more recent video about Debussy. It made me realized there are only seven notes in the whole tone scale (as opposed to eight in a major or minor scale). Strange how I never noticed that before.
