Are you having insomnia or sleep deprivation? Sleep deprivation effects include increased risk of physical illness, higher risk of obesity and weight gain, emotional instability, and obviously fatigue. If you've crammed for an exam or had a lot on your mind because of overthinking, anxiety or depression, know that you are not alone. In fact, according to CDC, 1 in 3 people don't get enough sleep. Did you sleep well last night?

The worst thing for me, is being a night owl and no one respecting it. Society and family won't let me sleep past noon, yet being a night owl and being most productive, awake and alert during the dark hours, I can't get to sleep until the sun is coming up. Even having a night job isn't an excuse people respect. I have to do what they want, when they want it, and I'm not allowed to sleep. This causes me to not get enough at all. Even when I try being on a day schedule, I'm just a zombie all day until it gets dark, then I perk right up and can do things when I need to be going to sleep. Better to just go with what the mind and body want for health, but no one lets me.

Hi Pych2go,
Your information about sleep was very informative.
From the comments below, I see that your viewers have some questions about the topic. If you are looking for a doctor's perspective on this subject, then Doctor Avinesh Bhar would be interested in doing a podcast with you on this subject. He is a fellowship-trained and board-certified doctor in sleep and pulmonary medicine. He is based in Macon, Georgia, and has a sleep treatment practice.
Thank you.

It has been 3 days since I have been having trouble sleeping. Whenever I try to relax my heart rate goes up.
Yesterday I did fall asleep but suddenly my body shakes and I woke up and I only got 1-2 hours of sleep before school. I feel so bad for myself. I have started taking medications for lowering my heart rate.
I feel so insecure about it because other it because other kids my age (13) are able to sleep peacefully but I can't
Can somebody help me?

i used to have the weirdest sleep schedule during high school that worked out so well and i was having so many dreams and an actual working memory lol it was: go to bed at 12am, wake up at 5am, get home to nap from 3pm-6pm, rinse and repeat. Now as an adult though, i find it hard to sleep at all anymore and i usually go to bed at 5-6am and get up sometime in the afternoon between 2-3pm and every time i 'fix' this, it always reverts back to the same time lol

I once didn't sleep for 4 days straight.
What I saw was hellish.
I hallucinated and heard things and interacted with things that were not there.
I think if you don't sleep your mind starts to dream. while you are awake.
On the other hand, I believe you start seeing things that are really actually there.
I suggest no one tries to do this for fun, because the mind needs to shut off, . it can be dangerous. extremely.

this has become a habit that ive been doing for a few months now, but 4 out of seven nights a week i dont sleep at all. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays i dont have any sleep. (though on Sundays i usually have around 3 hours) though im feeling pretty fine and i have no access to sweet things, so im ok, though my emotions can get really out of hand over tiny things

Not me watching this after not sleeping for 36 hours. I have bipolar disorder and some days even with meds I just wont or dont sleep. Not because I dont try or dont want to I just cant. I truly try to rest. I just read or try to be productive as much as possible. I do need sleep. I love sleep but I either get 9 hours or I get like none.

I get muscle aches after one night of no sleep but if I was lying down with my eyes closed then I'm fine, 2 days is harder but once it gets to 3 I start seeing shadowy figures, I can remember a giant spider on the ceiling and walking back from the toilet I saw a human-like figure walking towards me. Funny thing was I wasn't scared at all

School says you said get 9 hours of sleep idk about any where else but in the uk school starts at 8: 30am-9am and I go to school where almost every child there gets buss or train there and the trains leave at 7 and the busses leave at 7: 30 meaning if you want 9 hours you will need to sleep at 11 or 11: 30 to have a full 9 hour sleep

For some reason i'm more energetic when i barely get any sleep? Sometimes i'll even be hyper or whatever. And the more i sleep, the more i feel sleepy and unmotivated. Some days, i sleep for 15 hours straight and some days i stay awake for 24 hours straight. Idk it's weird
