5 Signs You're An Independent Person

Are you an independent person? Are you able to do numerous things by yourself? Or do you rely too much on other people? Rasha: I dont think there is a universal definition of independence to be honest. This definition is highly rooted in western notions of individuality and autonomy. Different cultures look at independence differently and may not even have this kind of conception in the same exact way. For people who are very tied to family, community, and religion - they can easily fall out of this definition. While I salute your attempts to make psychology more accessible, I think its important to remember that psychologists help people in certain contexts and different cultural contexts have different understandings of growth. Personally I believe it is impossible for me to ever be independent and the only reason why I feel like a loser is due to the fact that everyone hails this version of independence as being the right one and or ultimately sees that independence is good when it is not always necessarily the case.

So umm I already knew from a young age that I was kinda independent, I grew up in a toxic family, my mother neglected me I was also a middle child so I was practically invisible. I honestly don't remember my childhood that much but I do remember that I kinda raised my little sister she was always with me and I fed her, bathe her, played with her, and did all the things a mother does with her child. My family was also emotionally unavailable so I dont show affection that much and I have a fear of intimacy. Ok that's enough rambling for now: ')

does anyone know how to become less independent, because ive become too independent that it affects my relationships and mental health. i push everyone away because they take away my personal time and i cant get emotionally attached to anyone because i dont find myself thinking about them or relying on them or see them making any difference in my life and i hate myself for it. any tips?

I've always known myself as an independent person. Started taking formal employer jobs the moment I turned 18 (legal in our country) and balanced work and study to provide for myself. Can't wait to finish off school so I can earn more and be a professional and travel the world which is my dream

I am so independent. I love to be alone but I would like to think I do have great social skills/etc. I would classify myself as an extroverted introvert. I am almost always alone but I am never lonely.
