One thing this video does not talk about is when your emotions are mocked as a child. When people laugh at you for being angry or upset when you are little - or worse try and make you laugh at yourself this can be very painful and terribly humiliating. I suspect there are families where lack of respect for emotions and mocking strong feelings runs down the generations. The parents mock their chidlrens feelings because their feelings too were not taken seriously either. It is important to put this into context. Behaviour is very different from feelings. There are certain forms of behaviour - especially psychological bullying or physical aggression and other forms of abuse which are simply never acceptable. But feelings are one thing and behaviour is something else. It is important a lot of the time to discipline our behaviour but a feeling is a feeling and is beyond judgement. But how often have we paused before telling people our feelings in case we get judged or preached at (there is nothing worse than preaching at the converted if you are one of the converted and someone addresses you as an ignoramus) One thing I think that is important to remember is that if you love someone then that is your right. It is not for anyone else to judge you or tell you to get over it or that you should not be feeling this way because it is silly and they don't love you and you don't really know them. If there is a planet where romantic love is logical it is not this one. You can be very aware your feelings are not logical but you cannot switch them off like a light switch. All you can do if the situation is very dire and they are with someone else in a serious relationship is remove yourself from the situation and keep as busy as possible. But it is about self compassion. Not spoiling yourself - but self compassion. Then eventually the feelings will subside. Of course if you love someone that does not mean that you can behave towards them just as you choose. If you do love someone who does not love you then treating them and their wishes and the wishes of their partner with utter respect is the most constructive thing to do. But to feel love towards someone - that is a right. Let no-one mock you or put you down because of it - or preach things at you that you are already supremely aware of.

Having emotions talking about feelings or emotions they always made it sound like it was inappropriate they f tell you what you're not supposed to do to be a f woman to be what they want you to be where I live at. They religiously made it out like women were just an abomination always wanting us to be stronger always wanting us to be I swear I'm not lying about this they actually made it seem like they were wanting us to be men as women try telling me if I was if I felt too much or had too many emotions they're going to put me in a nuthouse. I was talk to and treated as if I wasn't allowed to have any emotions I was treated like we were in the stone ages. If I was ever hurt and I cried or showed any feelings you know what got told to me why are you even crying a lot of lot of lot of psychological damage.

So, like, what might it mean if, I dont know, someone ends up crying quietly in the bathroom with the fan turned on to ensure their parents dont hear while going down a dark mental spiral, then just go along like nothing was wrong to begin with and actually do feel better and just. rarely, if ever, come back to. that. Like they just dont care or think about those thoughts or maybe revelations about they feel the way they do. And they know that this way of thinking/acting isnt probably normal but its like Well, I have an idea of whats going on but is it the right conclusion? And if it is. now what?
Totally hypothetically though of course.

I have repressed my feelings for long time because I dont feel comfortable to share my feelings with people. It is also sad that some of the people will use it against you. Recently I have tried to express my feelings more and more because holding it will make me crazy. Im overthinking constantly and having a really bad time. When you have the need to share your emotion, just share it with people you are close with. Dont be afraid of someone elses judgement, it is about you. Having feelings is not a crime, it is human. Holding it back and repressing it will only make it worse and as Sigmund Freud said: it will come back in uglier way.

I have repressed my emotions for as long as I can remember. Since I was a young child. I have always held them in until I could no longer hold them in. Unfortunately, the times I have fractured has displayed itself violently. The last time I fractured, I broke my hand in 2 places. I have never been able to articulate the expression of my emotions in a healthy manor. Growing up, I wasn't allowed to express my emotions without aggressive push back from my father. How does a person express their emotions properly? I am so exhausted! I'm afraid I might fracture again soon and possibly hurt someone or myself or both.

I don't know why I'm so afraid to talk about my emotions to others. My parents were never the type to tell me to repress my feelings or anything but when I was very little I started to tell myself that crying is for weak just to make myself more strong, but with the passing of time, it has been very difficult for me to talk about my emotions because I've been holding up that mask of strong, I literally don't talk about my emotions. I have been bottling up so many things since forever but I can't talk it, and it's getting really tiring. Sometimes I just want to tell my mom but it's really hard.

I feel tired and I feel like I am not really myself around my family even though Im expressing myself how I want to
I get bothered easily and am fighting with my brother constantly
Im sleeping late, but I want to sleep and Im staying up and I know its not good for my mental health
I constantly want to go to sleep
but I have enough self control to hold those emotions and when I feel burnt out or wanna sleep I force myself up to do things no body really takes notice to
I feel like Im two completely different people
Like I have to act a certain way in front of certain people

I hate it when the internet knows about and understands me more than the people around me, including my own parents. I hardly show my emotions, especially anger because it creates an unhealthy environment and my family doesn't like it when I express anger regarding literally anything. So I am basically quiet and unresponsive to things and they like it that way but when I suddenly get very angry (it's like my anger erupts like a volcano, it feels like blasts, suddenly I am the bad person and I feel very guilty afterwards. I hate it so I have distanced myself from people as much as I can

The only reason for me is, I have a broken home, I stop smile, didnt make any friends because, I dont know what to talk about and how, been living alone, parent never at home, I have no one to express my emotions, even tho someone do listen, but I cant trust, they do talk behind about me, so I learn to be emotionless during high school, until my adult life, and its hard for me to be, someone I wanted to be, smiling, laughing in a big group, brave to talk, and happy.

Meditation and stoicism. Works for me. Now when I feel angry, sad, frustrated, lonely, horny. I just meditate and detach myself from the emotion rather than succumbing to them by watching porn, playing video games, or indulging in food. It is not the same as repressing. Emotional men are dangerous people. I stay far away from overly emotional men.
If I have a good male friend, I will share my deeper thoughts and letting it out a bit.

For some reason, I can still feel happiness, anger etc but when someone dies or something traumatic happens, I just don't get sad or emotional, for some reason I just lack compassion.
When my dog died I didn't feel anything and still don't. When my grandma died I was sorry but the only sentence I could say was It's unfortunate that she passed to show my family that i cared.
I don't know what this is called tho.

I feel like for me it's a variation of this: at home, with my family, Im open and laugh at all jokes. i always feel free. Meanwhile, at school or with other people, i can't get myself to laugh a lot or just. feel anything. It's as if my emotions are repressed automatically, and i have to force myself to feel things that i don't but normally would with my sister.

I don't think I'm emotionally repressed, then. I think I don't want to feel vulnerable or weak. I always wanna be the strong one, I guess. Admitting to being scared or sad or depressed goes against that, I suppose. I think that's my main problem. Guess that makes me more of a people-pleaser than emotionally repressed.

i just now figured out that bottling it up is an abstraction and a really bad one at that, it's more like you feel the feelings in the moment and then they disappear when you think about something else and then when you go back to thinking about them again, you pick up where you left off

old video but i feel like a flipside sign of repressed emotions is instead of #4 where you rarely get emotional, instead you get over emotional about the smallest things
since so much is so repressed it just comes out at the worst times?

using this as theraphy: i was raised hiding emotions, nothing has to be shown, and its not ok to feel, that means you are weak and there is no one to trust when you are the only child.

This is me! I've experienced verbal abuse most of my life. I find comfort in building walls. I guess it's more of defense mechanism. I don't feel comfortable opening to people.

Repressing sometimes because it isn't always safe with certain people. And they have proven it multiple times after expressing and they have no empathy to respond.
