Social media is anything BUT social.
As an experiment, I gave up social media for lent three years ago.
I felt so much better without it, never gone back.
Especially with most of the views in my feed being adverts for clickbait sites, scammy products, or ones that have triggering emotions such as father's day, mother's day, pregnancy tests, valentine's day etc - barely anything from friends.
Loads of these ads never take into consideration how much it can hurt when you feel like you're missing out because none of them are relevant to you.
Do yourself a favour - call your relatives. Spend time with your friends. Social media never is and never will be a substitute for social needs.

You forgot the most important things setting goals and socialising: actually socialising with people either out Or indoors. From a person who has been suffering for years actually daring to go out, setting dreams again splitting them into little goals volunteering, doing something that feels good like helping others, being of service is the best cure, and bit by bit learn to build a supportive tribe around you it could be one or two people but real support system. Eventually u' ll learn resilience and get mentally and emotionally strong
Wishing you all peace, love, and happiness people

In this sad world of ours sorrow comes to all and it often comes with bitter agony. Perfect relief is not possible except with time. You cannot now believe that you will ever feel better. But this is not true. You are sure to be happy again. Knowing this, truly believing it will make you less miserable now. I have had enough experience to make this statement.

These habits are good only to prevent mild depression, not to cure it.
For a person really affected by depression, often it's impossibile to wake up, eat or shower.
This is just like saying to a person with flu and high fever to get out of bed and jogging to feel better: it doesn't make any sense and it isn't helpful at all.

Michael J Fox fighting a debiltating case of parkinsons disease. said, ,With gratitide, optimism is sustainable.
That was a beautiful quote I wanted to share.
Another quote from him (He is such an inspiring guy):
I strive for excellence rather than perfection. There is only ONE who was ever perfect.

Sometimes, the best cure to depression is opening your eyes and seeing the positive things in life and being able to distract yourself, or keep yourself busy. Nothing can stop you if you dont have time to think too much on negative thoughts that arent true
-may or may not be me.

Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.

This is helpful. I am going through a significant depression right now. I typically have this routine when I am feeling fine. I like that you emphasize gratitude as a means to reduce depression. I will focus on that daily for now.

It feels like you can distract yourself from it, but like a sponge you always return back to the depressive state even if you emerged yourself into positive distractions or fulfilling work.

First thing every morning-- I listen to St. Paul's Suite by Holst. It's a happy 12 min classical piece. I feel my day is off if I don't hear that song first thing: )

How does one get up in the morning when you don't look forward to physical pain or no motivation? How about doing the same thing everyday and nothing seems to change.

Yeah this is great and all - but unfortunately my bills and job don't care about my depression. So unless I want to get up at 4am there is no morning routine.
