Questions I have about psychosis (no offense meant by anything and please only answer if you want to. If you do want to answer, you dont have to give anecdotal evidence/personal details if you're uncomfortable with that, a lot of these can just be yes/no answers that's totally fine): Do people with psychosis generally have most of these signs throughout their childhood, and it just doesn't get diagnosed until later, or do these signs appear suddenly when you're older? I heard that psychotic people are superstitious, but is that a stereotype/only applies to some people or is it a strict rule? Are there people who have delusions and know (or sort of know) that they're delusions? How often do some of these traits get confused for autism, or vise-versa (the last one with negative traits sounds similar to autistic people who don't openly emote? The last trait about negative emoting: is that a trait that's present in every/most situations, in all/most of the person's life, or more like they just don't emote sometimes, but they emote other times. For most people is psychosis brought on by trauma or genetics? I hear a lot of psychosis is brought on by abusive family, so is it possible to have decent non-abusive parents/immediate family and still develop psychosis through other factors: genetics/school bullying/other trauma? Is it possible to develop psychosis when you're a teenager with seemingly no trigger event/situation? If you have psychosis, what is the best way for other people (especially family/friends) to treat you/regard you/help you if you're having an episode?
Background: I'm not worried about myself btw, I'm wondering about making one of my fictional characters psychotic (dont worry, it's not a villain/crazy/dangerous character, I wouldn't touch that stereotype) but would like to have a better understanding. I'm open to learning. I have autism/adhd so I get having disorder(s) that people don't know about or have a very shallow understanding of. And it can be hard to differentiate between what is your disorder(s) and what is yourself as a person, at least that's how it is for me sometimes.

My boyfriend who is 26 almost 27 had a sudden behavior change. Not sure if its due to stress marijuana or a funeral he went too but I started noticing changes like paranoia the first week of May, 2nd week he went into this depression mood because he lost his job due to his paranoia. He was walking around the house non stop for hours and left to his moms because he didnt feel safe at the house. He wasnt sleeping for days and it made it worse. He was telling me at the end of the 2nd week he was hearing voices and thats why he couldnt sleep. And he was acting odd like taking showers 5 times a day and kept asking me and his mom if we were ok. 3rd week it looked like he was getting better just very quiet. From the 3rd week to the 6th week he was still not the same but better. He was sleeping so he was no longer walking back and forth. He has no interest in looking for a job and he doesnt go on his phone at all or watch tv. He just lays on the bed and looks at the wall and he dont talk about how hes been feeling or if he sees or hears things. This past Tuesday we spoke with a nurse practitioner and he was given antipsychotics. Before he took his first pill he started doing odd things like grabbing something mid air and throwing it outside and he kept looking back like if he hear something. I ask him what he is doing and he says nothing. Once he started taking the antipsychotics it looked like he calm down and now he just sleeps. Its been so draining for me to see him like this. I know he doesnt do it on purpose and theres something wrong. Do you think this is a sign of schizophrenia?

I have a friend, no honestly it's not me, who is a heavy user of amphetamines and they are utterly convinced that they've been hacked by an ex partner. This hacking is at such a level that I imagine it would appear on The News or as a headline in the paper, because it's that complex, and apparently there's a network of people involved. It's claimed that every device in the house is hacked, including the fridge, washing machine, every phone and tablet, game console, and so on. I think they're psychotic but they don't appear to be particularly altered or anything. Can someone suffer from psychotic delusions yet still function day to day? I find it really hard to believe that this has happened but the individual concerned is absolutely adamant that this is the case.

i find it hard to make a guess on my own by looking at symptoms because I believe I find many from all kinds of disorders and some counter act eachother. I'm super shy to talk to people too. I am like a very easy person to see like if I was put in a crowd. I'm tall and used to do lots of lifting. But I am quite the opposite and I feel smaller than everyone else or inferior. I don't like talking to people sometimes or atleast in my area cause they act all up nose to you and give you the most judgmental looks at you when you speak as if You are talkin to them like your a 2 yo. I would have to write down everything I experience because I just can't talk it all out. And writing is less stressful for me.

Environment and Experience are
Q KEY
Every experience puts some kind of an imprint on us and then we walk around as a collection of those experiences and that collection has been coded into biology. Environmental events can really change the gene expression and contribute to why people feel so utterly transformed by a traumatic experience. Like what happened here today between Mom and Me
Experiences can switch key Gene's on or off affecting who actually develops disease.
We dont even have to worry only about our own trauma history the
Experience of our parents and our ancestors contribute to how we approach our current life circumstances.

Disorganized thinking really fits with me. It'd also fit the performative frustration and delusion from being the opposite of an autistic, being hyper logic, diagnosed to me by a neurologist specialized in Watzlawick and hypnosis. This goes 10 years back whereas for catatonic excitement we might go to double that but that's personal. As for number 5, I'm oppositely avoiding at expressions, unable to show what I think others would want to see. But I don't want professional help as it makes me lean on the paranoid trait unless they explain me (again, the neurologist) why it is not likely that everyone is focusing on me on the metro.

My mom is sure that I used to have psychotic attacks at the ages of 5-10, and I never remember a single one of them except very foggy memories of being hysterically happy or mad and running around punching things (and there were also super colourful objects or nonsense objects, like a bee shaped flashlight holding a knife, she also said that i would say some absurd sentences too, and then laugh hysterically right after.
i mean she didn't get me to a doctor or something for some reason (probably because it was kinda rare, appearing in short seasons like being mentally unstable for a month and then be healthy for a year)

pretty sure i have a psychotic disorder--- often i hear things from an unknown source, and smell things that aren't real. i have disorganized thinking when i'm having delusional episodes', per se, and also derailment is rather common for me. i mostly have delusions of grandeur, such as believing i am a fictional character. now, i also experience both derealization and depersonalization occasionally which could also be a factor in that. i also have some negative symptoms. i also occasionally have persecutory delusions, but not often.

The thing that prompted me to search for this was I received news that my cousin died which I only met once I laughed so hard my belly was hurting the thing is when I watching a documentary about a girl being eaten by a shark all I could do was laugh while I thought about the shark dragging her through the water and the trail of that would be left behind also I find blood very satisfying to look at I'm truly worried about my mental state and I live in Jamaica (a third world country) so there's no therapist: ,-)

A few months ago I was diagnosed but I don't have any hallucinations or disorganized thoughts or anything like that, my antipsychotics aren't doing anything either and I switched from caraprizine to risperidone but I don't feel any change, I just feel tired and paranoid, I have blurry vision, Im gaining weight, Im feeling empty again, my memory is even worse and now I have anxiety and I have to take meds for that too, since I started to take antipsychotics everything is the same but a little more miserable

Psychosis, as we all know, are very queer things: some parts are presented with appalling vividness, with details worked up with the elaborate finish of jewellery, while others one gallops through, as it were, without noticing them at all, as, for instance, through space and time. Psychosis seem to be spurred on not by reason but by desire, not by the head but by the heart, and yet what complicated tricks my reason has played sometimes in psychosis, what utterly incomprehensible things happen to it!

My 16 year old started hearing voices that are vulgar and believes everyone is talking about him. Due to this hes been depressed and irritated because he just wants this to go away. Besides those two things he can function and has no other symptoms. Doctor prescribed Zoloft to cure the depression. My question is it possible the hallucinations are just due to severe anxiety and depression

omg I literally just told my mom I had really scary delusions and thoughts and she said things like ridiculous things I put in my head they're not true I mean she did say we could talk about it tomorrow, but it really bothered me how dismissive she was, which she isn't usually. Which then caused more delusions after they just stopped.

I really need to tell my therapist about my symptoms and shit like that but without my mom sitting here and tell me to fake being ok and normal and without them denying me and telling me I am faking just because I understood the question wrong and worded it wrong and I was telling them that I may have autism

Im probably just being weird, but I really like to make loud random screeching noises whenever I feel like it, as well as just acting like a goofy ahhh chicken in general; flapping my arms like crazy, maybe even squawking. Im probably just really excited, but sometimes I just have an urge to make a random noise.

Sadly, the way i live if i wanted to go to a therapist it would be no help to me, my grandmother has schizophrenia, and if i show any signs of it my parents would probably rush to put me in a pshyc ward or just. act different around me / ignore me and i feel i wont get any help

I'm confused when you look up the difference between schizophrenia and psychosis basically they say they're different and that schizophrenics experience psychosis. But when you look up the symptoms of each their symptoms are identical so to me they're the same thing

As I write this, there are 666 comments here. Lol.
There was a murder in an aa group that I used to attend. They thought she committed suicide. But she was murdered. Is that a delusion? Fyi, I know who did it.

I start to talk to things and can't believe that they're not alive or they can't hear me. Even when i talk instead of them in a conversation i can't convince myself that this isn't what they think or say.
