I have a good friend who is like this. Very intimidating but at the same time good and kind person. She fought her battles hard in life and was forced to give up something many times by the same people who was supposed to care and love her. She fought hard to build the life she wanted but the world kept betraying her. She told me how many times she fought to stay sane and hoped she had the luxury to say no when things get rough. She worked so hard and didn't even get the time to take a break. I almost lost her years ago while she was trying to keep it all together alone. I think people like her went through so much that they don't deserve the hate from anyone. There are intimidating people who are still kind hearted and are afraid to change because they were used to keep trying to protect themselves from abusers. She was betrayed many times so now she had to use intimidation as a defense mechanism against the people who will try to abuse her again. Its sad but I understand her. Its not easy to heal from something that bruised you for a long time especially when you are fighting your battles alone.

Snappy people look emotionally and mentally unstable rather than intimidating to me. That's a huge red flag not something to fear. People who dominate conversations lose me. They look self absorbed and I don't have to be patients to listen to them go on and on and not know when to stop and share the spotlight. These types don't intimidate me. I usually leave the conversation right when they're talking if they can't get the message to stop rudely cutting others off. They're terrible listeners. I understand the aggressive tone coming off intimidating.
Judgemental and critical types are just a turn off. Def a wet blanket to be around but I've known people like this and was completely turned off my then. They ended up being toxic and couldn't handle when I criticised them back. They dish it but can't take it which is ironic.

I know I have a intimidating demeanor, people who know me, treat me like authority figure. My question is why do people constantly try to explain there self or justify there actions to me. I've had this problem my hole life.
They can spare me the details, cause I honestly don't care, it feels like people are trying to always get my approval, or consent to do something, if not its like they try to always make sure I'm on there side.
It really bugs me, and makes me want to just be left alone, I'm not responsible for you or what you do, so quit acting like it. I'm only in my mid 20's and I've had 40 year olds come up to me acting like a child trying to get there parents approval, or consent. Why?

I don't understand why people think I am intimidating, i mean i am friendly i can talk to anyone without a problem. I am a extrovert. The people who never talked to me before, when we became friends they said you are totally opposite of what you look like. They thought I was very serious and rude or just not interested in anyone. And i am like seriously. I am kind of a crackhead sometimes and they think i am intimidating, my friends said even some teachers are a little intimidated by me at first and i am like no they are not. Why would they be? They are the teacher i am scared of them. Well anybody rarely dare talk to me first. But why what did i do? For them i just look like that.

I know im nice. however i do notice only mild mannered n tactful ppl get along wth me. so im thankful if ppl find me intimidating. those r nt my type of ppl.

I'd like to add one. Sometimes your facial expressions and or how you dress can make people feel intimidated. When I was in middle school I use to dress in black and wear a chain wallet and I had a resting b face (and I still do. One day I told my girlfriend at the time that I wanted to learn Kung Fu but she told me straight up that I looked like a living nightmare in the form of a human and asked why would I ever want to learn a martial art. Well, she was right of course but it still hurt. Also, I was one of the biggest kids in my class.

People say I have a resting female dog face and I am pretty aggressive physically. But not for the reasons people probably think. When I get close to you I become more physical like for example I scare you or hug tite and play fight. Probably the reason behind that is I just ruff house a lot as kid and played with my boy cousins a lot. And I was kind of raised like a boy. My voice does come of aggressive sadly and I constantly have to speak soft but still it sounds aggressive. Give me some tips please

At the same time though, I don't want to be a push over. Anybody get what I mean? People often look at me as if I am some kind of alien. look at me in the eyes, drop their head raise their eyebrows or. blank expression with a slight looking down their nose at me, whether we are talking or not. Im told that Im intimidating. I think its because I always looks like Im angry at sth, and I show strong disgust for things that dont logically makes sense, I dont joke much. I dont talk much I just listen and gave brief replies like yes, okay, oh, understandable, etc. and the fact that Im straight forward my friends often have to budge me to remind me to be more gentle.

I relate to all of the points. How I wish I could be more mindful of my actions around people so as to not intimidate them. I don't like it everytime my new friends tell me that their first impression of me is intimidating. It's like people restricting their actions around me so as not to get offended by my actions when I'm not really trying to fry them

Sometimes when im with my friends and family when I look at them to say something they suddenly jump and say why are you looking at me like that? Be yourself or are you angry at me? You look like you want to kill me. And new people tell me they didnt want to talk to me because I looked intimidating and uncomfortable. It hurts me more than anything

I'm dealing right now with a decades-younger coworker who is very intimidating. Not quite outright bullying. But some of the things mentioned here are things he's used in reaction to how he sees my personality, some of which is described in this video. Yet he seems to be the only one affected by it, and I interact equally with everybody the same way.

All of my coworkers said that I came off as intimidating & a mean girl when I first started my job. I think my silence is what intimidates people the most, but when I first meet someone I feel like I have to gauge their personality first so I know what energy level to meet people at. It takes me a couple weeks to open up to people

I dont think know has told me youre intimidating! Because no one I know has ever talked like that (unfortunately) but people refuse to talk to me and avoid me. And I get really self conscious because maybe theyre thinking Wow look at that it just reeks of mental instability/disorders stay away from that crazy wreck!

I actually watched this because people say I'm intimidating but then when they realize I'm not they take me for a fool. I'm trying to learn signals that send of certain ideas in order to put up a believable facade so people won't lie. Specifically with tone, word choice, posture, hand gestures, etc

I dont get why my classmates think Im intimidating. Im the quietest kid in class. Theyre all really loud and extroverted, maybe being around someone so quiet and serious intimidates them? I really dont know. I dont get why theyd be intimidated by that, so extroverts let me know what you think.

I know someone who has these characteristics, and i can tell you that's not fun and i can't enjoy myself with their company. Ironically, i don't think my relationship with them is healthy since these feelings I've had from time to time are making me uncomfortable with them

People definitely view me as intimidating because of my honesty. I find it hard to fake niceness and often ask very direct questions. I try to keep it on the low since a lot of people can't handle it but sometimes it just comes out

Some people get defensive around me, as if they feel threatened when I make remarks that are genuinely just meant as jokes.
