Has your burnout led to your depression? People who are burned out can become depressed. It can start as burnout and progress to depression. Are you curious whether you're burnout, depressed or both?

Definitely got on the depression spectrum after a long period of burnout. I was productive but disassociated with myself and my long term needs. Eventually I went into isolation in the pandemic and I believe there I fell into depression. The dopamine from productive days and social interaction was gone entirely. My self esteem dropped from low to zero. I couldn't figure out how to eat a moderate amount or take care of my hygiene consistently. I hardly ever came across something I could genuinely enjoy, it was like food could make me feel better but I would eat so much of one thing and I wouldn't be satisfied. Periodically went into frantic breakdowns where something just broke in my head and reminded me that I was living in a sad, chaotic mind all the time. I hated those but they were relief from being numb about it.
Happy to report that depression and burnout are mostly gone for now and I have found a sort of balance between purpose (hope) and productivity after 6 months of off-and-on uncertainty in starting a relationship and then eventually getting my confidence back enough to get pregnant with our baby boy.
Thanks for the insight into the differencr.

I've been depressed since I was 13. Maybe even before that. For me, it never passed. It has always been a constant. The darkness knows me by name. One thing that should have been added to this video, though certain it was added in others, is that someone who is depressed is very good at hiding it. They will never diplay their depression. If they do, it's an indicator that they want help. Mostly however, people who are depressed feel guilt. They will never show that they are depressed because they don't want others to feel bad because of it. Then, there is also the reason they don't want to feel pitied. They put on their smiling masks around others.

Burnout is crucial to acknowledge as a diagnosis. Autistic burnout for example can lead to suicidal depression. Autistics are 9x more likely to commit suicide than none-autistics. (They claim is due to lack of supports in adulthood) Burnout leaves us without a job, sometimes due to that we lose housing, many have to move in with family and friends, or become homeless. we lose the ability to mask and can become none-verbal, be unable to connect to others or even feel our emotions. When we burnout, we are at risk of becoming mentally Ill and vulnerable to financial hardship, or self-harm.

it's 12h57 where i am and i'm thinking that so far, my impression as a someone diagnosed with clinical depression (and suicidal): Burnout sounds a lot like something that could easily turn into depression if it's not dealt with soon enough sooo i'm not sure i agree with it's classification and being considered less of a threat, like yeah maybe it's not as bad YET, but uuh yeah depression is like one of the most insidious and deadliest thing, soo i think preventing it from settling in your head is very very important, because when you start slipping you hardly notice it yourself.

I don't want to self diagnose but I'm also afraid to reach out for help. I think I had burn out but even after it subsided it turned into a form of depression. But I'm not certain because one day I'm numb or bawling on the floor, and the next day I'm cheery and seemingly doing fine. It's really hard for me to tell if what I'm feeling is minor or not because I don't know if I truly have felt depression. Because as soon as I think I'm at my lowest, it can always get worse. So, how can you tell that you truly have depression or not if you have only imagined what it feels like?

I have been diagnosed with severe depression when I was 30. Im 40 now and depression is no joke. There are no triggers and there are no cures. I hate when I open up and someone says, are you taking your meds? Or whats causing your depression? The latter question boils my blood because, geez, I dont know, if I knew, I would stop being depressed! I wish someone would just listen and not try to fix!

what about when youre in a situation that doesnt allow for a chance to change what you do in order to alleviate the stress and depression or burnout. what if there is noone to share with and just comments like this could get you in trouble and cause everything you love to be taken away because youre thinking about changing that trigger?

This video isnt accurate anymore, I think burnout is considered a psychiatric condition now. Also, with the relationship to an overtaxed hippocampus from chronic stress it might actually be reasonable to consider burnout (constant stress) can lead to depression structurally speaking. Im not really sure that this video is that accurate

They should do sit-ups where the upper part of the abdomen is worked, with the legs raised and trying to touch the feet with the hands and its variants that work the upper part of the abdomen, they will see improvements quickly. That upper abdominal exercise will take away your depression and anxiety, it will also heal your mind.

I LOSE HOPE EVERYDAY, AND STRESSING ABOUT MY FUTURE, AND I FEEL LIKE IM WASTING MY TIME EVERYDAY.
I regret of the decision that I enrolled a course that wasn't for me, and now I finally graduating but I feel like it's useless.

Each time more I think of seeking for mental healthcare or help, but I'm also afraid that no one will take me seriously and I want to see how far I can go resisiting a bad mental health, which I'm pretty sure I have. Does anyone have any oppinion on if this is a good idea?

I am burnt out from excessively stressing and not being good enough. Everything in my body is off. Sleep off. Ill get maybe 1-2 hours if Im lucky. My appetite is so enhanced that I could eat anything and not feel full. Chronic stress will lead to burnout and depression.

The problem is that burnout leads to you not performing at the job which leads to you quitting or getting fired. The conundrum is that youd be stuck half-assing everything while at the same time not able to recover: (

I feel regret for procrastinating in school and neglecting it for rest and exercise pls I need help, I have been feeling like school's sucking out my soul every time I have to to do homework even if it's easy for me.

I abandoned school and Idk exactly why, maybe because I had problems with staying with my classmates or why I decided to change ideas, the only thing i know for sure is that I did that for a reason but Idk for what

I self medicate with a liter of 40% alcoholic everyday and lots of weed. It's the best thing I can do to help cope, I have no real friends and I avoid people in general (although I crave human interaction)
reply

What if you have both? I've suffered from depression since 2009, but I am also being burned out. But due to the depression (and PTSD) I can't find the rest to get out of the burnout.
reply

It's worth noting that, at least in my personal experience, I'm more susceptible to burnout when in a bout of depression because my threshold for stress I can manage is much lower.
reply

I wish I could talk to someone about my burn out, I feel this emptiness and most of the symptoms of burnout except I can sleep really well. I really hope is not depression though.
reply

Is it possible that person can experience burnout, while being depressed? It felt like it when I was talking about it to one of my friend, who got help
reply

For some reason, instead of crying watching this, I started to smile and even laugh at some degree with slightly watery eyes.
I wonder what that means.
