practice makes perfect but if you don't land a joke correctly you can feel the awkwardness spreading among your peers.
Then you're told to stop making jokes.
Now i'm almost 30 and i feel like i've lost a game, since everyone knows how harder it is to make friends in adulthood.
Plus, I found out in my 20s that i have been suffering from social anxiety (it's getting way better but it took me years of therapy.
i feel a bit cringy writing this because i don't want to sound like i'm playing the victim and i've never been this personal on a comment.

I'm 100% socially awkward. I couldn't accept this when I was younger. But as I've grown more matured now, all I can say is being socially awkward are insane! Recently I attended a colleague training, there's 5 tables, each have 4 person. I was the only person sitting on 1 of the table. No problem for me. But what angered me was that my boss got empathy on me & he was like can someone sit next to him please? Goddamnit dude that just messed up my day. Why he had to point this out He must've thought that everyone wants to be around other people.

i try so hard. i really do and it never sounds right when i have a convo. i try not to seem bored while someone is talking but my mind cannot contain that much info, when someone seems like they need advice, im not sure if they do and when i try it sounds really bad and wrong. IT MAKES SENSE IN MY HEAD AND I WANT SO BADLY FOR THE PERSON TO GET IT BUT I CAN'T GODDAMMIT WHY AM I LIKE THIS sometimes i think i should just move to another part of the world and start over with society.

As an Extroverted Person ( entj, if u wanna know exactly) the last thing: (unsure how to respond) is constantly happening to me and is making me really uncomfortable. People get easily offended by my words even if my intention was compliment them or just agreeing with them. Nowadays i am even afraid to answer simple questions because it might sound rude. And I really don't want to cause any conflicts or misunderstandings. Hope this is only temporary.

If by any chance you meet me in real life. DON'T give me confidence. Whenever I'm confident take me as one of those people who would randomly scream in a room whenever it's quiet. Anxious me is a bit of an improvement because I'd be that guy who'd be at the corner of the room whenever there are three or more people in the room and scratch my limbs aggressively when someone gets close to me. I need to touch grass

Unsure how to respond is literally the worst like I will listen to any story you tell but I dont know how they expect me to respond so my mind will be in chaos. Then comes phone calls another horror of mine that Im trying to tackle, but its so frustrating when my brain stops listening to the person on the other side and I try to cover that up so I sound soooooo awkward and sometimes boring too.

I am a socially awkward, introvert, with litteraly zero social skills, diagnosed with ADHD, and I find it very painful to live in this world, it's not fun at all. Now, as a mother, it breaks my heart to see that my little daughter has the same personnality and same struggles as me. She's also ADHD, she can't make any friends, she feels awkward and feels that no one understand her. She's only 5: (

Watching this video made me shudder. I would go to a party and not talk. just fidget. then finally get my phone out and watch MIT course videos about linear mathematics. and actually smile and laugh. needles to say during future parties nobody talked to me. my partner is helping me through this. and will give me a swift kick or bump whenever I make 'another' inappropriate joke or response

Ive stuttered for as long as Ive been able to talk. Sometimes its more mellow but sometimes its very noticeable. And its gotten to the point where Im almost terrified to start conversations or my heart starts racing when I know I have to talk to someone I dont know for any reason. This video definitely resonates with me and did provide some good pointers.

This is incomplete, because things that were described, could be something like Autism or something else, but it is bad to dont say it, because people who doesn't have an Diagnose, are often there hole life confronted with problems like that, but dont know about things like Autism. And Because of that you should say it.
I wish you all the best!

I'm socially awkward and it is sometimes hard just to talk to people like how you imagine. When I'm talking to someone, I can't find the right word or i just mess up what i wanted to say and i get anxious fast. Does someone have some advice to help me be less socially awkward?
reply

4 is very relatable, once I saw a random classmate barely mention cookie run (a game I'm obsessed with) and then I'm just Yooo! You know cookie run kingdom, that's so cool! And then I realize how injustice kinda blared it out, then k just kinda avoid everybody for the rest of the day.

You know whats more pain about being awkward? You will remember that awkward moment for long time and you don't know how will people think about that, and the fact people will forget about it sooner than yourself is pain to realize.

i never had anyone to talk to about normal things with growing up since my parents were in and out of relationships so i try to avoid normal conversations with people like my period with my stepmom bcs of how i grew up
