Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (or ADHD, for short) is a condition that affects your focus. It can make focusing on everyday tasks and routines challenging. For years, people with ADHD were labeled as lazy, procrastinators, flaky, or irresponsible. These labels only produced shame and prevent those with ADHD from seeking help. To help reduce the stigma, we made this video!

I asked my mom (she's a head nurse) if i had adhd an asked even if she knew what it was. She said that i didnt have it and i was just lazy. She said that i was not hyperactive in useful situations and im just always distracted and have a short attention span. She explained that being hyperactive meant doing a lot of stuff without being tired. She gave an example of a parent from my older sister class. She said that she baked more than 10 types of food for more than 70 people in a day and she (mom) thought that hyperactivity meant doing important stuff like the parent did. She told me that i wasn't hyperactive so i couldnt have adhd(even tho she knows that i hyper focus on the things i love like art. The weirdest of all is that she makes me take adhd meds, saying that they are only to make me smarter and i will finally be able to focus on school lessons and reading books. I trust her but i still have a tiny bit of hunch that i might have adhd. I told her all of this and also told that i 100% relate to the things that people with adhd experience. She still doesn't believe me and says that im just extremely lazy and i shouldn't self diagnose some random thing to gat away with it(btw im not self diagnosing and i whould never do.

I was diagnosed with adhd almost 6 years ago and as I'm climbing up to high school (1 year away woo) I've realized how much my adhd has affected me as a person. I've been told that I'm lazy and I get distracted very easily and I just don't get things done when they're due. But that isn't necessarily my fault, I was never taught how to deal with my adhd or how to fix it as some say.
I now have a medication that I take twice a day to help me and I've even picked up some fun things (like 4 sports and a show animal) in the past two years.
I'm really just here to say that if you think you do have adhd based on the signs in this video, talk to someone when you can. Trust me, I may be just some random girl on the internet but it helps so much after getting the right help for you.
Be sure to stay hydrated and eat well, have a good day/night!
Ps sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes, I'm not the best at language arts

I'm not sure why but I've noticed that ADHD and Autistic people attract one another. Being Autistic I've had ADHD friends my whole life. It's like we're magnets to each other. They always manage to find me. The explanation I've heard is that ADHD people feel comfortable being themselves with Autistic people because they won't be judged for their erratic behavior. I really don't have very many normie friends. Maybe one or two. But most of my friends are either Autistic or have ADHD. And all of them are guys. I have no friends that are girls. I don't know how to talk to girls. But guys I can talk to because they go out of their way to talk to me. If they didn't then I wouldn't talk to them because I'm too afraid to approach people myself.

Hello, so your probably not gonna respond but, (anyone can give tips, they would really help: ) I've been told by multiple people, I might have ADHD, I've done lots of online quizzes (they have all said I might have ADHD, watched videos ect, but so like I'm 12 and I wanna ask my parents to get me tested, and I relate to almost all these things; would you have any tips on how to talk about this, and if I might actually have adhd, thx! ( Anyone PLEASE gimmie tips ). Some symptons I have are: short attention span/can't focus, can't sit still, jumps into random conversations and VERY sensitive: D

My son is now 24, but was diagnosed at 8 years old, by the best neurologist I could find on the East Coast. Because back then, it was an over and misdiagnosed thing. Hes now outgrown the hyperactivity, but all of the other symptoms are still there. Its been a long hard road for him. Hes back on meds, low dose which is helping. He appears lazy at times. but he is not. Hes tried to explain to me why gets like that moreso an inability to focus on what he actually should be doing. ADHD is complex, but not taken seriously anymore because of massive mis- diagnosing and self- diagnosing.

Listen bro, im really sick of this life here and i can never be lazy if i wake up early in the morning just to express my happiness before the rest of the day comes when i get very angry for a reason but i can sometimes never find the reason, and for a child, i can never be happy for an hour if its something without family, family can only sometimes be awesome, next thing you know it, they can break your life chains, happiness, they can hurt you, and my life just fell in the darkness section, so i can never be happy.

Don't blame anything or anyone but yourself, otherwise you'll remain the same for the rest of your life, because you don't take the responsibility required to change, for example, your lack of dicipline being the fault of adhd, why not believe it's Your fault? You're coping with your laziness by passing the blame onto something else, like adhd, do you not see that? This video is unfortunatley giving people things to blame their laziness on, which is just sad, it's undeniably damaging the youth.

I have ADHD and I have been unmedicated for the past 12 years, Ive been able to manage without any, not everyone needs medication to function, and some people do. Im not perfect, I still very obviously have ADHD, and I love that about myself, I love being someone with ADHD. It has its downsides, dont get me wrong, but I just need to learn to overcome those. Itll never be easy, and thats okay.

For me, this video is honestly too relatable to ignore. Ive never been tested for anything and I dont see why my parents dont try. They know I have awful memory, short attention span, procrastinate all the time, and even just get rly depressed sometimes. They either dont know the symptoms or seem to ignore the facts. Im just too scared to ask them.

I have ADHD and I absolutely love it. Laziness? HA. People with ADHD are the opposite of lazy. Focus issues? Yes, but once you understand it, you can have focus way more intense than others. Poor impulse control? Definitely, and I love that too. I consider ADHD a super human gift although, it did take time to learn to use it to my advantage.

I was diagnosed pretty young and know I question myself a lot if these bad habit are adhd or myself tricking me into to thinking its adhd, it really affected me, especially since these habits caused me to get in trouble at home

When i was younger i used to light matches without thinking even though i knew it was wrong,

Great video. The ending is really the best advice, using calendars and a to do list. Getting started is the hardest part, maybe I can start a simple list that I know I can knock out. And slowly add more along the way

ADHD IS A NEUROLOGICAL CONDITION YOU ARE BORN WITH, IT IS NOT A SET OF SYMPTOMS. Just because you relate does not mean you have it! It means that various functions of your brain are broken and dysfunctional.

Ive got adhd, and for me its like having hundreds of voices talking at once in my mind listing off things i see but when i see something interesting the voices all agree on that thing and want to focus on it

These signs are sorta accurate in my case. Ive never been diagnosed with ADHD. My brother told me I have it, which was a long time ago. I would honestly like to know if I do have ADHD or not.

I've had troubles like these and always get into fights. Thing is, he reminds me that I was diagnosed with Aspergers, not ADHD. Is there a link with the signs you said with the former?

I'm supposed to be working on my project now, but instead I ended up here. This video caught my attention more than my project.
And now I am spending more time leaving a comment here.

I still think it's ridiculous that a doctor in my childhood told my parents I could not have ADHD because I could read for hours on end(oftentimes even missing meals and not sleeping.
reply

I feel like everyone experiences these symptoms at one point or another + The Internet shortening everyone's' attention that it's hard to tell what's ADHD and what isn't
reply

Everyone thinks I have ADD, which I'm told is the same as ADHD, just a modernized term. And even then I'd still say I'm lazy. I also get distracted easily, but I'm also lazy.
reply

I think schools are the issue, not ADHD. People with ADHD are just less able to delude their brains into thinking artificial things like grades actually matter in reality.
