My mother cuts off the WiFi at 9PM every night. It doesn't matter if there's school the next day or not - at 9PM, the WiFi dies.
Now, let me show you why this is an issue; there are no exceptions.
You had homework? Suck it up, you had all day to do it.
You wanna talk to your friends? Well, I need to sleep so you can't.
You're having a panic attack and need support? I don't care, WiFi goes out at 9. You already know the rules.
These are all situations that have actually happened to me and my mother refuses to leave the WiFi on past 9PM. I understand this can be seen as a first-world problem but my only issue is that she's actively cutting off my connections to the outside world. A lot of my friends live in different time zones so the only time I'm able to talk to them is at night or early morning. I'm pretty sure I've lost three friends because of my inability to communicate with them over their holiday. It's basically like cutting your child off from their friends. I rarely talk to people anymore and it just makes this void inside my chest grow larger and larger by the day. I feel so lonely because I basically have no one to talk to. I feel like no one wants to talk to me which is probably true to an extent.
I dunno man, it just seems really controlling to shut off the WiFi when she said herself that it's because she needs to sleep. Legit missed deadlines because her's is 9PM and my teacher's is 12AM. I basically lose time to work on projects for school.
Sorry for ranting, it just feels really controlling when all my IRL friends live half an hour away or more and I can't call or talk to anyone for 80% of the day.

Feels like you've spied my family. This is literally exactly what I grew up with. It still feels weird to know that other people's parents actually love them and saw them as real human beings already when they were children. My parents still act the same way towards me. Although I don't depend on them financially anymore, they still managed to keep me on their leash. For example, I have no clue about insurances and banks and all that and my father kept telling me how complicated all of that is and that these things have to be done exactly the way he does in order to work. Like he alone has all the insight and whatever I might try would be wrong. I mean, in my parents' opinion, everything I ever did in my whole life was wrong. Except for when it wasn't, then it was their achievement of course. But that thing with the insurances and banks and all that isn't the only thing, it's just an example of which I know how ridiculous it actually is. My parents always gave me the feeling that I owe them unconditional respect and eternal gratitude simply because they gave me life. It's so messed up. I've seen through this many years ago when I was like 10, but even so, I never managed to fully get away. I've never been able to stop thinking about what my parents will think about my actions. They somehow managed to keep me strapped emotionally even though they've never said a single friendly thing to me without any intentions. But I'm confident that some day I can manage to seek therapy even though my parents might turn their backs on me for that. In all honesty, that would probably be the kindest thing they've ever done for me after all.

I was raised by narcissists. I cant even handle having them in my life anymore. They are so upsetting. I've had them on my mind the last couple days and it feels like a horrible flashback I want to forget. I'm full of anxiety and I'm struggling to stay focused and functional because of it. I wish I could think about the good things instead. It wasn't all bad, but enough of it was to make it dominate my thoughts of them. The hardest part is how they don't seem to care or acknowledge their impact on my life! All I've ever wanted from my mother was for her to sincerely tell me she's sorry! Like I dont know why I did/do those things, I was/am just a mess and I'm so fkn sorry that's it! So simple to me but impossible to a narcissist. She continues to try to gaslight and lie and minimize and manipulate to this day and I'm in my 40's! Like enough already. And my dad has always been self centered. I learned not to count on him when I was little. But I wish it could be different with my mom. I've asked her to do therapy with me but she refuses. She is too selfishly worried about them seeing through her facade and diagnosing her. So, I have no other choice but to keep her away. Which isnt always easy either. She of course doesnt respect my boundaries. Ughhhh!

I am depended upon to be the good girl in my family. My parents have taken advantage of the fact that I am homeschooled and have little to no contact with the outside world. Because I have nobody to confide in about my home life, they can draw me tighter into their lives. The most terrifying thing I can imagine is them not being the center of my moral universe. What would I do without them? They're the only right ones. They go on and on about how they want me to be an independent thinker, but I know they really don't mean it. But yes, my dad has threatened suicide in front of me, multiple times, because he is extremely guilt-sensitive and volatile. As an adolescent with troubles, I can easily set my parents off into a deeply emotional identity crisis by simply sharing my troubles. They can't bear it. I might be the cause of their death. As of late, I've taken to stuttering around them and apologizing nonstop to make sure I don't get into another disrespect situation. I'm also deeply ashamed to seek counseling, because I was supposed to be the girl who didn't need help.

Man, this sounds like my mom 30% of the time. 70% of the time she was loving and a normal person. But as being a sensitive person and being unable to understand her (Aspurgers Syndrome) She would get mad at me and do the conditional love thing, and also do the better than other parents stuff. Whenever I wanted to do something that was popular and used other parents and their kids as evidence, she would say Im better than them, Im a Christian and being Counter-Culture and not letting my kids getting caught up in worldly sins makes me a better parent. And she would brag about it to her Christian friends. She also would chase me and scream if I got a failing grade. She would also try to disown me if I didnt please her one day, then be back to being her normal nice caring self when I was getting good grades or was pleasing to her, and this all would happen within the span of two days or so. Then 70% of the rest of the week or month or whatever she would be a great person. Im pretty sure she has some form of personality disorder.

Sadly, all of this points describe the relationship with my parents perfectly. And I could add the Situation of You always have to archive excelent grades. Since kindergarden, they made me learn to write and read at quicker peace than anyone else. We had economic problems and my parents tought I could only learn in a private school. I started way later than anyone else and made me stay until late and study even more when returning at home. I had to made 3 years of school in only 3 months and it was exhausted at that age. Later on the next years, as soon as my grades lowered, They didn't let me get out of the house to study and do extra work. While others were seeing their friends and socializing; I had to stay in home to improve my grades. And even seeing the problems I had growing up, even to this day; they just finds the way to blame me for all of it. All my problems are because I want it that way, I only want to blame other for my problems. Is their only answer.

On a serious note.
This was my mother for sure.
In retrospect, I think it was more like BPD with narcissistic traits but she's getting help now and we can talk. We do not fight because she's trying to tell me how to be and I can see that we're on our way to a functional mother daughter relationship. Thank God.
I'm 27 but my teen years were literally the worst in her household but once I went to live with my dad (because she kicked me out at 17) I was able to see how badly I was treated and why she might behave like that based on what my psychology articles and text books said.
On the other hand.
Unfortunately most of these apply to my father and I'm hoping he gets counseling too so he can heal.
I am now narcissist proof but it doesn't come without its pitfalls. I'm still healing and growing and learning to love myself.
Pray for my family please.

It is only recently, nearly three years after my late mother's passing that I learnt I was the daughter of very unhealthy, emotionally draining individual. How did I discover that? Aside from the low self-esteem I felt around her when she was alive, and the indifference to my feelings and state ( not knowing what it was at the time, within a year after her death, her siblings also exposed their true, ugly and very dark colours! So simply put, I inherited an emotional family chain of toxic baggage which I have spent the last year trying to break, and rebuild into something healthier - this means I've cut off all contact with most of my mother's relatives, including her siblings.
Family and blood is only sacred when it's healthy, compassionate and respectful. If it's not. it's a matter of time before you walk away ( for your own mental health and wellbeing.

My Mom was a narcissist once (after being boasted by her busybody relatives with theirs' son and daughter high paid salary) when I'm start working on society after 17, start work at 18, with lower paid salary compared to my cousins who get higher paid. She asked me, If they can, why you can't? I throw back the ball to my Mom, If you compare me with other people, then I can compare other Mom with you too. Children cannot chose parents, parents cannot choose children. Then, why my friends can enjoy university life after 18, while I can't? If they can, why can't I? You're my only Mom, nobody else can be my Mom, I hope you understand me as your only daughter My Mom and my Dad are silent after I said these. Glad my Mom understand me, plus with my Dad advice, now my Mom isn't a narcissist.

My parents wouldnt even make it through a minute of this video. As soon as theres a possibility of them being wrong, they totally dismiss and discredit the source. I remember telling my mom that she had unhealthy eating habits. I told her Ive been watching videos online and they all suggest that her eating habits are bad. She said anybody can say anything online, I dont believe that. My father is no different. I told him that all studies show that hitting your children is not the best option. He said he doesnt believe in statistics because they didnt ask him. His idea is that no statistics or studies hold any weight because they didnt ask everyone. No matter what, they are not wrong. Either they dismiss the source and deny that they exhibit the behavior.

Hello, so I have a question because I don't know if I am wrong. Im 14 yo female and I live in one room with my mum (she has her own but it's too cold there. Im trying to keep it as clean as possible but she doesn't care about the hygiene. 2 weeks ago I asked her to put her jacket away and she ignored my, I asked her again and at the end we had an argument. She said Im going to leave you and you will look after yourself and pay me rent, ect. She's said this multiple times but I never thought about it until now. The rest if the night I was crying, so have I done something wrong? I do have uncured trauma, so I think I over reacted. Please let me know if Ive done something wrong or my mum.
sorry for spelling mistakes

Knowing this makes me concerned for my niece and nephew, because their mother, my older sister, seems to be showing signs of being a narcissist, or at the very least, a control freak. She's pushy and bossy, always trying to have things her way, always wanting things to be how she wants, she blows up over the littlest of things, and gives no regard to other people's feelings. Every single time I've been over to their house, it has been nothing but uncomfortable, and I've wanted to be as far away as possible. My sister is just toxic in many regards, especially in her attitude and temperament, and she has shown no signs of improvement.

My parents werent narcissistic but they were both not so well with mental health which effected me. My dad always tried to guilt trip me into staying at his house on the weekends when I wanted to see my stepbrothers and stepdad for the weekend. My mom always used me as a child therapist so I was basically the secret keeper for everyone. She would complain and complain to me about how she hated my dad (she was married to my stepfather) which made me start to think that my dad wasnt a good role model even though he was trying to be a good dad. My dad was also short in money and stuck living with my grandma.

My dad is a narcissistic parent, depending on his need, he keep changing the golden child and the scapegoat child role between me and my sister, after more than 25 years I realized that he won't accept me as I am so I decided to ignore him and keeping distance with him, and also only focusing on my own goal
About five years ago, my dad got stroke, and what I see that for a narcissistic person who always think that he never wrong in everything, having a stroke really hit his ego hard and make him hard to recovered

This video definitely resonates with me. I knew something was off my entire childhood, I felt like I was the black sheep a lot. And I couldn't say what was on my mind because it would rock the boat so to speak. I grew up around fake parents that said they love me but never truly showed it. Love is not just raising children it's also nurturing them and doing what's best for that child's individual needs. I was bare minimum'd by my parents when I should have been given more support and love

My parents have never shunned me or put me down for bad grades, but they have paid careful attention to my social circles. And my parents welcomed everyone, with love until they started moving shady and had to love people from a distance. My parents consoled and empowered me, when I discussed my day and some issues with them. They never wanted to compare me to anyone, because they always made it clear I am enough as myself.

It took me 36 years of life including a 3 year relationshit with a (diagnosed) narcissist to finally fully acknowledge what I always knew - my father is a narcissist and my mother has terrible mood swings and control issues. It's good to know that everyone of us can break the vicious cycle instead of continuing to live and pass on this toxic normality many of us grew up with.

I relate to all of these but number 9 4: 52 hit too close to home. My mom always tells my brother and me that we have her brains, it's all thanks to her and her ancestors that we come 1st in the class. She says if it weren't for her we'd be failing, which makes some sense because she helps us with our studies, but isn't that a parent/guardian's duty?

I am sooo happy yall make videos on toxic parents. For the longest time i felt so lonely and alone. Like no one understood me. Everyone seems to come from a perfect family and i am the only one that no one can relate to. True this video i know that i am not alone. And that everything is not my fault but my parents make faults too.

Yep I was raised by both. Ever since i was around 6/7 years old I always got off vibes about my narcissistic mother. I had this deep core hatred/resentment I didn't know where it came from. She'd whisper to herself that sounds so demonic! Can't wait to finally get out and let go.

Damn. At first I thought this wasnt my mom, but the last 5 definitely are true it is what it is but Im glad I recognized it after talking to this guy. My mom was jealous that I was giving someone else my time. I knew from that moment on that I wasnt the problem or the guy, it was her!
