negativity from relationships may stem by someone's lack of experience in relationships, or may be caused by trauma, or to be nd, OR maybe even just a simple lack of empathy. none of these things are bad, it just takes time for people to open up and become more comfortable with you. a lack of empathy is always demonized in relationships because it seems like a partner doesn't love you, but in some cases, that can't be further from the truth. just because you lack empathy does not mean you don't love or care for people
love is genuinely an emotion, too? hate, happiness, or even sadness can effect you physically, along with taste and stuff. for example, stress is known to cause hair loss
and also, sometimes people are neurodivergent and do not like pda unless it is them initiating the contact? just because they don't do pda in private doesn't mean they don't love you, they just don't want you to be uncomfortable like how they are in those instances (the lack of pda can ALSO stem from trauma)
this whole video just seems like a tactic to demonize people who suffer from trauma, or are different than what the ideal relationship is.

I would like to add a caveat for the no emotion idea. There are relatively rarer cases where a person may just not know how to show thier love or they are afraid to show thier version because it might be wrong. The love may be there, but they may be overthinking it or just not confident in themselves. Double check to make sure whats going lest you drop a genuine connection simply because the other person was too naive or scared.
Similarly, with all of this advice, always remember that one or two instances of any or all of these isnt enough to conclude anything. Make sure to note long standing patterns or shifts in established patterns to start to suspect anything. Even then, just talk about it (with the evidence) in a concerned tone with appropriate language. Remember, the goal is to heal the rift, NOT to accuse and one-up your partner.

Hey psych,
There are some moments in my life in which my brain just stops working.
So, I have a crush on someone from past 2yrs. She has been my friends since 10 years and I really want to confess my feelings towards her. But here the problem comes. Last year my parents decided to change my school. this was one of the biggest heartbreaking moments in my life. but then, we started calling each other everyday.
But from past few months I feel like she has forgot about me. she stopped calling me and im the one who calls her. she only talks for about 5 mins and then se hangs up, giving an excuse.
What should I do?
And even my parents dont allow me to go out of my home so that i can meet her.
Now, I feel depressed and want to know what she really thinks about me.
Please reply if you have any advise.

Honestly I watched this because Ive been confused with my relationship and I wanted to figure out whether or not the love I have for my boyfriend is fake or not. I dont really relate to any of those signs thoughI think Im just broken in some kind of way. Maybe Ive just been alone too long? Spent too much time day dreaming about being in love that I hyped it up to be better than it actually is? All I can do is guess. Its hard to explain how I feel but its like a part of me knows something is off, he treats me amazingly and hits everything Ive wanted in the ways of being treated by a loved one. And if I think about us splitting up it breaks my heart and I dont want to imagine my life without him. But theres still something wrong and I cant figure out what it is.

Oof! You have some great videos but this is not one of them. And that's OK, kind of, because love isn't something so easily defined. Especially if you've never experienced it yourself. Love is different compared to other emotions that can have clinical explanations and understable reasoning.
This video is a generic foundation of advice. The basics. Don't take this as advice unless you've been in a relationship for longer than a year. Communication is key to knowing.
A soothing voice, intentionally or not, does not mean they know what they're talking about.
Surround yourself with those who make you feel like yourself, always

From the other side of this I can say I acted this way to force the relationship to end and close all ties with friends and family related. There's apart of me that feels bad about it but after doing as much as I did to make everything in our lives happen by myself, it really couldn't have worked out any better for me and maybe she'll learn to respect what I achieved and not waste the chance to be the partner someone actually needs.

I relate to giving fake love because I never had a serious attraction for my ex and I constantly feel really guilty about ever even saying yes to dating him. I considered him a really close friend, and I shouldnt have escalated it because I dont think well ever have what we had for a while. We havent really burned any bridges, but I dunno it just feels awkward to try and reach out again.

What about those who have been so abused, neglected &/or betrayed by either parents &/or romantic partners that -even if they tried - can't feel love or can't show love because they just can't trust anyone anymore? They have a dead heart. I should know, I'm one of those people. How do people like this even function correctly in a relationship?
reply

I hug her she does not hug back
I hold out my hand and shes too scared to take it
Lied about her old relationship to not hurt me
I deserve to know the truth. Even gave her stuff on Valentines Day for her to say she wanted me to be happy. So messed up though. I spent money on her and she faked it till she finally gave up.

My sister is with someone like this and it's only been destroying her mental health over time. But she doesn't see it at all and it hurts to just sit and watch her deteriorate because she's living with someone so fake, unloving, manipulative, and childish.
reply

My ex literally disappeared twice, and went like a week without talking ti me, thats when i broke things off, i put him first even tho i was relapsing, he never cared, even like a simple morning or how are u was difficult for him
reply

Hi! Great video idea! Can you maybe consider to not bring up neuroscience when the information that's being put out simply isn't true. I'm referring to the dopamine talk especially! Thank you for considering!
reply

I give up on love Ive been hurt to many times love is just a chemical reaction in the brain of dopamine and serotonin or something like that so is like not even real its just all in your head
reply

You lost me at if you're feeling a dopamine rush, it's real love - that means the feelings of affection _inside your head_ are genuine, not that they're reciprocated or well founded.
reply

If love is a complex mental function can a person's ability to perform that function be damaged or destroyed by too many, and too intense, negative experiences involving love?
reply

We're in a relationship since 2019 and he cheated me Always. Last year he cheated me 3 times and said me he loves me
But I don't think he loves me so what should I do?

reply

my ex fills 4. 5/6 boxes. it says a lot.
To be fair: I was guilty as well. when I noticed, I stopped making effort because I felt no matter what I do it wasn't enough

reply

so basically i wasnt even in a relationship they just felt comfortable with the fact that I was there but didn't do any effort to try and keep the relationship alive
reply

Come on everyone knows true love is a meth all you need in life is big brains and you can't trust people at all they'll stab you in the back the 1st chance they get
reply

I don't have a lover but this is how my dad is with me. he's only nice to me in front of others but is cruel to me in private or with certain friends or family.
reply

I just dont trust anyone when they say they like me at this point every girl I talk to pretends they like me so I dont even know if its true but I keep it at fake
reply

I just hate these disgusting excuses of people who cause abuse, fake love, all of those people are just disgusting wastes of flesh, soul and emotion
reply

But what about those who can't or feel like they can't feel love? What are they supposed to do if they don't want to hurt anyone's feelings?
reply

Thank you! I love this video for showing me the truth! Even though I already had a gut feelings towards it not working out.
reply
