What If the Confederacy Reunited Today?

What If the Confederacy Reunited Today? The video is interesting, but there is a huge flaw in his assumptions.
The biggest flaw is that at the beginning of the civil war there was only 33 states in the union, however the author of this video compares the Union to the CSA today, he assumes the Union has 17 additional states. Seventeen states were added after the civil war. Three states were added during the Civil War, which we can assume would be included in his numbers.
Based on his analysis the union would be approximately 2 times larger, which can be attributed to a very flawed analysis. I didnt run the numbers, but assuming 17 states are removed from the Unions economy, I think the Union and CSA would have economies that are very similar in size.
If we then divide up the 17 additional states into whether they would be in the CSA or the Union and then add or subtract from both the Union and CSA based on todays political land scape we may see a very different economic and military makeup.
I still would have given a slight edge to the Union. It would have been more interesting if the flaws in this video were addressed. The video could be broken up on two possible scenarios Pre-Civil War and Post Civil War based on economic and military strength. I think it would have made for a much more interesting video. You could have also come up with a futuristic outlook of the scenario based on what may happen in the future. Another possible scenario would be to breakdown at the county level would add some interesting possibilities.
I enjoyed the video.

Well honestly I think any confederacy formed today would not just be one of Southern identity but ideology. Cowboys in Montana and rednecks in South Carolina have the same basic idea of how this country should be run. People don't care about regions anymore, and of course slavery is no longer legal, so I really see it being more as conservative vs liberal.
And in that light, the -New Confederacy, - if you could even call it that (I would just call it the -Conservative Republic of America. -) would probably consist of half if not the majority of states, probably including Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Both Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Indiana, and Ohio. The Liberal Democracy of America would likely include Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Some states, like Pennsylvania and Arizona, would probably be contested.
Also, some areas of individual states might be against the rest of the state. For instance, eastern Washington and Oregon as well as upstate New York would want to join the Republicans. I think at the end of the day, it would be more like rural vs urban with suburban being the battlegrounds, pretty much no matter where you are.

Kentucky & Missouri would likely be part of the Confederacy if it existed today and present-day Oklahoma and the re-settled tribes there were also allied with the South and it was later settled mainly by people from neighboring Southern states. Southern and central West Virginia would likely join the Confederacy as well, the only reason it broke from Virginia and joined the Union was due to people in Wheeling in the northern panhandle who were more culturally and politically aligned with the North but were just part of Virginia due to how the map was drawn at some point. For all intents and purposes it shares more political, cultural, and social history with the Confederate side. Thus in the event of a Confederate victory, I would probably argue that the slave-holding -border states- would likely have joined the Confederacy (Baltimore especially was VERY pro-slavery and Lincoln pretty much had to lock down the area and declare Martial Law to ensure order) and sent the Union packing to a new capital ultimately in Philly or NYC where it was before. Future Oklahoma would likely also have joined for reasons stated earlier. It's also possible that what was then New Mexico territory could have wound up in Confederate hands if the Confederacy won as well, or at least the southern half which the Confederates actually claimed as -Arizona territory. -

Tbh, I wouldn-t mind at all as long as the pay goes up and some of the northerners understand that moving down here would be a bad idea due to the over capacity already in NC and SC and GA and FLA, we are tired of seeing east coast tags here making shit and the taxes all high and the highways are extra stuffed cause of this, and it-s a damn shame with the jobs being taken by you know who gets to cash they checks without ID and get to Use heavy equipment with no CDL lml young n guessed it, this country need some kind of a restart not no other BS and idk about them havin more numbers than us in the Mighty South, it-s a lot of kids here, retired military and some or most military training friends and family, it-ll be ugly for both sides if it ever got to that again but then again we gotta make a future for the kids in the most righteous way ever

A confederacy means the states were free and independent for the large part. I think unions within the confederacy would form with the states west of the Mississippi, who would than have ambitions to expand to the Pacific or further South.
In the East I think some states would eventually go to war like Georgia and the Carolinas. Mostly because of economic ambitions. A Federalist state would eventually form out of the state opposing one of those states Carolinas or a Georgia. A federalist state made up of Verginia Tennnesse Kentucky and Florida and Georgia to compete with Carolinas. And states like Alabama and Mississippi remain true confederate independence states-. as for slaves. I think eventually they create a second class system where even White ppl eventually fall to the lower class

I see several errors in this video. One of the important ones is that the -New Confederacy- would contain several more states today giving an increase in the stated population and GDP. If the country did split, more corporations including manufacturing would move to the confederacy because of lower taxes and to avoid fickle liberals in government who can't decide which day of the week they or dislike corporations.
Also, as for the number of people in the military. The new confederacy would have superior forces simply due to more of them having knowledge of weapons from a young age and they also know better about which bathroom to use. As for the so called union drafting more into the armed forces is a fallacy. Too many would refuse and the government would cave in.

First here you issues with scale say cal New Mexico Arizona Nevada would been part on the north when fact Mexico which own was working with the south and also what not taken in consideration of the treat most of South America would had with the confederacy, and in fact, were multiple keep thinking that the Civil War was fought over slavery was not slavery was just a red herring. The reality is a Civil War was fought over free trade in Texas. That is the plain truth of it, and in fact, the William industries way before then yes and they would-ve gotten slaves would-ve been freed anyway. So lotta these scenarios, everybody thinks, for the south would-ve been crushed by the north, eventually may not necessarily be true is a hyperbole in the first place.
reply

I think what people then to forget is just how destructive a war like this would actually be. The first couple of months would be the US Air Force and Navy bombing towns and ports, while the South scrambles any air assets it can get off the ground. The North's doctrine would boil down to -Do what Sherman did but bigger. - And retaliation from such bombardment would be massive. Assuming the South has at least one spare piece of radioactive material from the many nuclear power plants it has, and is too dumb to make ICBMs, imagine one Southern insurgent sneaking into Seattle and blowing up a dirty bomb.
reply

Considering how militant the South is, and how better socially connected we are than other states. Our gun and ammo reserves/hoarders/preppers, the fact that a great deal of us are hunters who shot our first gun at 7 years old. Whereas Yankees/Westcoasters are too scared to even see or hold a gun much less know how to use one. If there was a modern Union invasion of the South, there wouldn't be a war, there'd be recreational weekend target practice for Southerners. But then again, I could imagine it might go like last time, the Yankees just import an immigrant slave army to fight their war for them.

I don't see it being the comeback of the Confederacy, I think it will be Conservative versus Liberals or Democrat against Republican. And I think it will come down to the Counties. We will see a shuffling as people move around, the Dems don't like the Christians and the Repubs don't like the Wierdos
So it's only natural to split up. I
See one big Red Country and maybe 5 little Countries like the Northeast and Southern California with S Arizona and S New Mexico and South Texas and a few more. The Red Country will merge with Western Canada and the Northeast will merge with Quebec and Toronto.

reply

Illinois would break off from Chicago. California has more republicans than most of the reddish states they would break off. Texas would be a super power. New England would be destroyed by Ohio and large parts of Penn. Not to mention almost every state is mostly red counties with huge blue cities that cant self sustain themselves. The war is over before it even starts. This video is dumb. So many more states would break up or straight up join the Confeds.
reply

instead of being a massive superpower that no one could contend with we could weaken ourselves by splitting up. strength in numbers, we don't need different countries for different cultural zones, one of the great things about the many different cultural zones in our great country is that you can move and live where you want. this country is great for a lot of reasons, one of them being our huge size and diversity of geography and cultures
reply

There would be no war. what would have been far more interesting is how well their economies would do if there was such a split. the confederate states were a huge drain on US taxes except for Florida and Texas. It'd be interesting to see how the -Union- would fare without the burden of confederate states. It'd be interesting to see what laws would be passed in the union without the conservative south dragging down progress etc etc
reply

From a logistics perspective, the Union would win. But winning a war is not just about that, it-s about morale and willpower to fight. Spirit is what usually wins wars. And if you consider politically today-s states, the former confederacy would make a come back. The Union would probably have foreigners or recent migrants with more fighting spirit than the sit at home while getting paid natives who like to preach their nonsense.
reply

If the CSA reunited today, there'd definitely be some states switching sides. States like Virginia wouldn't be in the CSA and states like West Virginia and Kentucky would be in the CSA, not the USA most likely. Also states that didn't exist at that time in the 1860s would join both sides with ones like Montana and the Dakotas likely joining the CSA and Colorado and Washington joining the USA. The USA would likely win again however.
reply

The analysis is flawed in that the course of history would change dramatically and the current population and state of the current cfa would be nothing like the alternative time line. Florida would much smaller in population as there would be less snowbirds coming from the north. New Orleans would probably be the one of the most populous city by far given it-s the best port in the CFA. The other important port would be Houston.
reply

If the CSA ever came back but for the right reasons as to protect are borders, stop paying land taxes, taking care of are people first and that means black, whites, browns, and other races. Also stop with dumb make up laws. I would join. Right now I-m 2023 with joe Biden being president is making America week and bring it straight down to the ground with a dumb choices in law he tries to pass.
reply

I think alot of other states would join the confederacy. Namely red states outside the old South. Namely, Utah, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Missouri, possibly more. Many counties in the New Union might defect and join a neighboring red state. Many Oregon counties would join Idaho. Taking that all in, the Union might not be any stronger than the confederacy.

What does it look like? Trumpf's base. MAGALAND. A region devoid of a modern culture so it's sadly stuck in its past. Hence why heretic's and lunatic's like MTG are taken seriously, even when she calls people weirdo's born in -peachtree dishes: - I wish it would grow up and move on from its past and embrace a more racially, socially and economically just future. Alas.
reply

If there was another civil war in today's world we don't know which states will join the the Confederates and which ones will be part of the Union are we don't know the outcome the Confederate State you're going based on the original states of the 1860s and how many people in the Union might come down to the South to join the South and vice versa
reply

Thing is, civilian militias are much more useful now. Civilians have better weapons, tend to train themselves more, and of course are much more armed due to the huge variety of weaponry now (legal or not.
It-s not really a question that states with freer 2nd Amendment viewpoints would have better equipped civilian militias

reply

they'd go broke without federal funding and after making their citizens the poorest in the nation. texas and florida could maybe support the rest of them for a little bit of time but eventually they would collapse under the strain of economic pressure. it's honestly pathetic what red states are doing to their citizens
reply

Also, you have to consider that many black Americans would definitely migrate north, drastically decreasing the population and military size. Minorities are more likely to serve in the military and the southern population has way more minorities than the north. Ah, domestic migration. -
reply

THEY will focus and concentrate THEIR CONTROL upon the south east/-Confederations- FIRST.
That area is ALSO THE BEST AREA OF CITIZEN DEFENSE, if we were to be invaded by bad actors.
Whether they're our own government forces or foreign entities has yet to be revealed.

reply

As a Virginian, I can say Virginia is still a proud southern state. Not that this would ever happen, but if the Confederacy were to reform, Virginia would most likely give away 3 counties in northern Virginia to the North and the rest of the state join the confederacy.
reply

Never heard of Jim Crow?
-Slavery- is alive and well today.
A black man in Al. is over 4 times more likely to go to prison for possessing pot, than a white man.
Where he will then be -employed- by the state, and be paid next to nothing.

reply

You are assuming that all of the states who came unto the United States would choose to join the Union. That's probably not true at all. The politically red states would probably join the Confederacy. The divide would probably be about 50/50.
reply

1 think the confederates would dig up the old generals and give them a jolt [cola] and send Lee, Stewart, Stonewall, and o1d Pete if the others couldn't get the job done with zombies attacking Wash DC with 3 sh0t/min muskets!
reply

To many blue bellies to make it work. Southern courtesy is all but gone from the yankees ruining Dixie with being loud and obnoxious. Scared of everything and always complaining never trying to make anything better.
reply

If the Confederacy reformed it would very probably include much of the plains and intermountain regions, leaving the northeast and urban areas of the pacific regions, which would doubtless become -peoples states'.
