The Insane Plan to Build a Mountain in the Netherlands It wasnt Thijs Sollevelds idea but mine. I won an award for it for the best idea of the year 2005. The contest was organised by NRC Handelsblad, a Dutch daily. Solleveld knows of course. My son called him at the time and confronted him. He admitted and asked if it was alright if he kept on promoting the idea. I didnt mind, but this didnt involve the right to claim the idea. However, as long as there is no money involved, I dont care. So never forget it, the original idea came from Peter Hendriks.
It is by the way not a realistic plan. Amsterdam would turn into a very rainy city and behind the mountain a dry climate was inevitable. Also. the massive weight would push up the land somewhere else, causing earth quakes.

In 2010 the BES islands (Bonaire, Saint Eustatius and Saba) were given status of special municipality within the Netherlands (They could have opted to break away from the Netherlands and go independent as well FYI. There are mountains on those islands, and they are part of the Netherlands. So one could argue the Dutch have mountains, hence even 2 active vulcanoes. But those islands are in the Caribbean, and a direct results of our colonial past. So it's a bit of a stretch. Obviously the flat Netherlands in Europe doesn't have any mountains.

this such project must be done in Libya to cut Tripolitanian Province off the desert and must be made from hollow fiber then magically the place will turn to a background farm to Europe and the illegal immigration would stop there as plenty of food and work will be offered. a Forests could be created there to form a third world oxygen producer as in Amazone and equatore forests. Hey

Humans cannot create sedimentary rock and metamorphic rock so no you cannot build a mountain at least not 1KM high. You can build a Pyramid from stone or cement and cover in soil but the stone/cement will NOT absorb the rainwater so the soil will wash down the flanks leading to mud slides and area flooding of mud waters.

A mountain would actually be beneficial for water too due to orographic lift. In fact, some desert places can probably ought to have a combination of inland seas created and build mountains by them to produce precipitation for more fresh water or even having the mountains built in the middle of seas to make more land as well.

LOL it's called the NETHERLANDS. Nether means low, so the country is literally called -the Lowlands-. That'd be like if the government of the United States of America, completely unprompted, moves to China and says -this is where the United States of America is now-.
reply

I kinda like my country like this, but it also feels unsafe because the sealevel is rising and our country is mostly below that. Having a mountain sink our country 100m below sealevel would terrify me since I live close to Zeeland and the ocean

Plasma gasification turns garbage into small rocks. Plastic and paper can only be recycled so many times. Once they can no longer be recycled send them through the plasma gasification process. Plus there is hemp. Make hempcrete.

For F sakes! Man made mountains are one way to deal with land fill by turning trash to treasure so to speak since everything comes from the earth originally anyway. Ohh-it scares me! - Sarcasm Intended - Bunch of FN P---ies! -

If anybody can engineer great feats, the Dutch can. I was waiting for the moment in this video, when the narrator was going to reveal -how- the Dutch was going to construct this huge mountain, and not just talk about the idea. -

Establishing a colony on Mars or building a mountain destined to become an island in the Netherlands? Seriously? That's the choice to make? Of course you go with the 2nd one, it's a no-brainer
reply

-We can either create multiple bases on Mars populated by hundreds of people, or give the Dutch a mountain-
Seems like a pretty obvious choice. When can we expect the mountain to be complete?

reply

Well, Dutch have -hills- of a few meters (5-20 meters high and some are higher than 100 meters) in limburgish and parts of Utrecht and Gelderland, cuz they were formed by glaciers
reply

The highest mountain of the Netherlands ist Mount Scenery with an elevation of 887 m (2, 910 ft. I climed the mountain myself, which is located at Saba, Lesser Antilles.
reply

why would they make a mountain thats literally a waste of space like
they fought so hard to claim that space and then erect a huge pile of tourist attraction on it

reply

Africa needs to build a couple create somewhere for things to condense and melt from the atmosphere, it will supply rivers. forests and push back deserts

-Flat- does not equal -low-lying-, although most low-lying areas are flat. Large parts of inland Europe is pretty flat, but it's still high above sea level.

So 1 guys sits in his bedroom within his parents house writing an article while smoking weed and all of a sudden its the idea of the netherlands
reply

If you're going to build a 2km high mountain you need a better excuse than it will help athletes train!
What on earth was this guy sniffing? -

reply

Look up for Pyramid of the Sun in Bosnia. That's a man made mountain built before the modern technology that even dwarfs Pyramid of Giza.

The netherland used to be the most mountonous countries in the world with thousand mountain and hundreds volcano. Used to be
reply

Just drill to the mantle and create a new volcano! let the earth do its job by itself in creating the new mountain! =V

we dont need a mountain here what we need is nuclear energy and remove all the neo marxists from the govrnment

If you want mountains, move out of the Netherlands, otherwise just accept the fact that you cant have it all
reply

We do have an actual mountain, in Saba, a small island in the Carribean which is technically a Dutch county.
