Why Landlocked Countries Still Have Navies Swisss navi males the most sense for a land locked nation.
Even if you dont have coast, youd want to trade on the oceans and protect said trade.
Just to ensure and support trade and resource flow to and from your nation.
Typical Swiss.
They do things that make sense.

AUSTRIA, when it used to be the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE, had a fairly substantial -Imperial Navy-. However, after it lost its coastlines(and its empire) in the 20th century its -sea power- has been relegated to patrol boats along the Rhine River run by the Austrian military.

That video didn-t even cover the actual Swiss military force - the lake and river flotilla with its quite formidably armed patrol boat fleet. They cover the reasonably large lakes and rivers that border with surrounding countries. Therefore this video is a fail.

East African countries there is a country which called Ethiopia is landlocked and recently years began to build a navy which French government helping to build Ethiopian navy although some news telling that Ethiopia needs to cupture the see of somalia
reply

This was a dumb question, but of course, a landlocked country has a navy. If you have a sea or river or lake bordering your country, you still need a navy to protect that border or do some service for your country.

0: 43 there's a few other landlocked countries that still have navies
-Proceeds to show picture of a Canadian ship-
(Btw Canada borders 3 different oceans, Atlantic, pacific and arctic, definitely not landlocked)

if I were president of Bolivia or Mongolia, I would invest a large part of the GDP in aircraft carriers, destroyers and submarines to put on Lake Titicaca or the Caspian Sea, ('sweetwater' sailors)
reply

how about our Swiss Military Navy Unit? Why you didnt mentioned them? I am actually myselve a Offiver in exactly that Company. And there is only one of its kind. We are really a unique Unit
reply

the documentary about the Mongolian navy is 20+ years old, and at that point it wasn't official, it was owned privately and most of the sailors where quite old, not sure if it still exists
reply

Switzerland does not have a navy. A Merchant Marine is not a navy. The Swiss army however, does have a maritime branch with patrol boats. But that is a branch of the army, not a navy.

I love the subtle bits of cynicism RLL inserted inside the video:
1: 38 -Yeah, pretty exciting, right? -
2: 03 -. since theirs wasn't already long enough. -

reply

wait what? you tell me that the 35% of the landlocked countries around the world have a navy while Cyprus which is an island doesn't have even a single ship?
reply

The us: we have the biggest navy in the world, we rule the waves!
Mongolia: ah but we have a tugboat with 7 sailors 1 of which, can swim!
The us: uh oh

reply

Switzerland also shares part of the Bodensee with Austria and Germany, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have the equivalent of a Coast Guard, too.
reply

So what ships is the Bolivian Navy comprised of? Is their fleet 130 years old too? Wooden rafts because all the sides of the ship have rotten away?
reply

Switzerland has no navy. I dont know where you got your information from but just some ships that belong to corporations are not a marine/navy.
reply

Czech Republic have a sea.
Czech and Slovak Republic (Czechoslovakia) have 100% Naval battle win rate, we won naval battle at Baikal Lake.

reply

I saw the thumbnail of Switzerland having a navy but it-s still useless.
Why the hell would they fight in a war they are neutral

reply

whatever man, stop giving countries like nepal and afghanistan false hope loool, they are landlocked and cant do nothing
reply

Switzerland: we gonna have a navy
people: why?
Switzerland: money
people: -understandable have a good day-

reply

Couldn't a landlocked country maintain a navy at a friendly neighbour's country and work in with their navy?
reply

Too bad it wasn't mentioned that Switzerland has also a military fleet but it was a good video overall
reply

Hungary also had ocean navy till cca. 2005, even if no sea since 1920. They were not dumbs before: )
