What Life Under China's Social Credit System Could Be Like In Finland, a similar social credit system has been considered for years now in order to encourage people to help others more, tolerate others more, listen to others more and make people think more about the climate, as well as reduce racism, reduce crime, reduce the carbon footprint and reduce consumption. An extra idea would also be that in addition to that social credit, actions could be rewarded, for example so that if you managed to reduce your own personal consumption and carbon footprint by the amount of 30 international flights, you would get 1 year to buy food at the store with a 15% discount, or if instead of taking the bus or car you walk to your workplace for 1 month, you get free coffee for 1 week. But so far, however, the plans are only at the level of speeches because no one has had the interests to carry them forward and implement them.

As a person lived in China for 23 years I must say this is complete nonsense. In China, you will not obtain any punishment if you say something disagree with government unless you are stay in large scale public place. The only crime that might be relevant to your theory is -Disturb social order-, this act basically played same rule with Smith Act of 1940. The punishment is much milder, most people are only fined short term detention since you actually caused clear and present danger to social stability. Social credit system is actually a banking and utilities related policy, you only get penalized if you default on debt for a long time or damage infrastructure. Generally, a person who loses social credit cannot use public transportation or borrow money until he pays off all loans or waits after bankruptcy

-Could- be like.
Except it never actually happened.
The thing about the China government is that Central will give a vague edict then provincial arms will try out different things.
Things reported are pieced together to form one form one single story.
In reality, nothing happened. There is no national wide roll-out. The only thing that actually happened is a financial credit score that is similar to Credit Ratings in the West.

I struggle to understand how anybody can think that this is a remotely good idea! The government should never have that much surveillance on you. In theory, maybe a good idea, but any government will abuse it and turn it into a -if you promote x, your score will decrease. - Western governments are already trying to restrict our privacy and it must be stopped ASAP!

This reminds me of that crime a coefficient thing from that one anime, were people would get arrested for crimes they may commit based off there crime coefficient; but haven't just yet.
It's crazy cuz it was essentially a computer; integrated with human brains that measured a person's crime coefficient through some kind of sensor you could point at the person.

As a Chinese, I love how when I want to discuss something with a foreigner, they just play the social credit score meme and act exactly like the ccp-brainwashed Chinese they say they are. (+1000 social credit)

This system is truly amazing! Imagine how much work was put to implement it for such a big amount of people. Great work, I think this should be adopted worldwide and the world will be a better place!

It redefines what is moral or immoral. If you commit acts they deem immoral, you get a low score and loose rights. It forces you to violate your conscience, it is evil.

A credit score in America is like this except your ranked on how good of a capitalist you are instead of being ranked on how good of a citizen you are.

Honestly the video game cheater one, not visiting your parents and ordering/making an appointment and not showing up are actually great ideas.
reply

This sounds incredibly inhumane; prioritizing people with higher scores in terms of medical care is not only inhumane, it's unacceptable.

Cool video on what life COULD be like if such a system even existed lol. As of 2023, no nationwide social credit system exists

They should add the social credit to fast food and other businesses like they are planning but not to anything/anyone else

The fact that you can get less waiting time in a hospital is absurd i thought all hospitals treat stuff based on severity

Stop that BS. Social credit is only on the financial side. Western media really like to demonize everything-
reply

In simple words:
If you're a puppet they control = good citizen
If you have mind of your own = bad citizen

reply

reply

The higher the score = more corrupt you are. How does that calculate your integrity and honestly? ---
