How Las Vegas Exists in America's Driest Desert Las Vegas was always planed to be where it was located in the middle the desert in the middle of no where the land was cheap not much law enforcement and because of major industry was gambling was once they got you inside the business they knew and and understood one one would want to go back outside and deal with the high temperatures!
What changed their original business plan was limited and over time they up scaled it and glamorized Las Vegas! But because of its location they contently have to build and plan to kept a it fresh and new the long range question with a changing global economy and global warming how much longer can Las Vegas be self sustaining of the current quality and image? And then when you add the multiple problems with Lake Mead and the long range changes will Las Vegas be sustainable?

It's insane to me that people are allowed to have lawns and stuff out there. I'm currently in Southern Utah, on the edge of the mojave desert, and I'd say about half of the homes here have grass lawns that are being watered 2-4 times a day. Like the SNWA stated, if people switched to more desert friendly plants, that could very easily alleviate a lot of the problems with Lake Mead and the Colorado River shrinking. So much water is being used for pointless stuff like watering lawns and non-native plants, instead of, you know, drinking water that keeps us alive and able to live here in the first place. If you want a lawn, don't live in the desert.

I was there just a week ago, the food is average and costs are really high. Expect all the businesses to try and nickel and dime you for everything. Hotel service at Ceasars was terrible, no room water, no fridge, intermittent cleaning of rooms. Don-t get me working, it-s worth a weeks stay but I wouldn-t do it again. Lot of other places around the world to visit and cheaper. Food, if you like pizza, hamburgers and pretty avg food the your good. Almost forgot to mention the smell of marijuana every few steps along the strip, dirty place. Now I got that off my chest do visit, lots to do but personally I find the place way over rated.

How about Big 4 professional sports in Las Vegas within 10 years? Las Vegas did get an NHL team in 2017 as Golden Knights, they also got the NFL team from Oakland as of Raiders a few years ago. Las Vegas is also seeking for MLB, and NBA teams in the near future. Las Vegas also have a WNBA team several years ago. About 10-20 years from now, the population of Las Vegas (alone) will exceed more then 1 Million people, as Nevada might be the fastest growing state, along with Idaho, Utah, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, and Texas.

This just proves that a lot of our -solves- for climate change isn-t to punish citizens but for governments to become far more efficient and responsible in their management of public facilities.
But that requires responsible leadership willing to take accountability and not be corrupt-

Las Vegas History
In 1943 a test flight of the
Sikorski. 43 aircraft was conducted at Lake Mead by
Howard R. Hughes
Resulting in a crash that claimed two lives.
The Sikorski 43 aircraft was a prototype of
The Hercules One -
Spruce Goose which was being manufactured in Long Beach at the time.

I used to go to Vegas every summer with my parents on our way to California to see my family there. It has a special place in my heart - lol
We did all sorts of fun stuff and ate at a bunch of awesome restaurants. My mom and I saw Brittany Spears, Chris Angel, toured the Titanic exhibit, circus circus, etc.

One thing that wasn-t mentioned in this video is the massive water consumption taken up by GOLF courses in Clark County and the rest of Nevada. They try to blame homeowners for wanting a nice lawn in the middle of the desert when you have rich socialites literally draining our lake and our river to play 9 holes.

I went to Vegas for the first time recently and It-s one of the first big cities I-ve ever been to and I have no idea how they got they much extravagance in the middle of nowhere I drove from Idaho and there was nothing for hours on end until Vegas. Literally there was maybe 3 towns from jackpot to Vegas

Its about the urban planning. Las Vegas might have to ban the idea of -green lawns- and make everybody either rock turb or have natural landscapes with only desert plants city wide. They might also choose to stop using from hydro sources and move towards a city powered entirely by solar energy.

In the same way that the dust bowl of the 30s was solved by strategically planting 200 million trees to retain moisture and slow winds across the southern plains, Lake Mead could be supported and enhanced by strategic forest development within the airshed that feeds its watershed.

Las Vegas has a large underground water reserve. That is why the first settlements started there. The Bellagio Lake is supplied by well water. The Cosmopolitan underground parking garage is so deep that it would flood but has pumps to keep the well water out.

I went to the Hoover Dam years ago and the water loss is stunning. Honestly they need to cut down the populations of LA and Phoenix since nobody is supposed to be living in a desert anyway and they have to fabricate amenities by constantly stressing resources.

This video made me realise that we are 50 years ahead of time, it's just politics which is dragging us behind. Moreover, some real power should also be given to environmentalists like parliament, military, police and president.

Great video! I'm so proud of my hometown and its creative conservation efforts. I just wish all the grass didn't have to go as the more cement, the hotter it gets within the valley. but we gotta do what we gotta do after all.

I hope more cities follow Vegas' example for water management. That said I don't see how Vegas is going to survive the changing climate. Particularly when half the US government refuses to acknowledge there is a problem.
reply

I wish other cities in California and Arizona were taking the same steps as Las Vegas in preserving and recycling water. It will only continue to become more scarce as time goes on and population continues to grow.
reply

the population of other cities growth is getting really bad los angeles 10mil san diego 3mil phoenix 5mil tuncan 1mil los vegas has big population growth all soon this will become a big problem in 3 to 10 years
reply

I feel like most places in the US do things like this? I live in the southeast and water is plentiful but used water goes through the sewer to wastewater treatment plants and gets reused.
reply

Vegas is just the height of human hubris. I know this is essentially a hype video for Vegas but lets be real. All it takes is one hiccup and its gonna fall like the house of cards it is.
reply

If you live in Las Vegas and refuse to use desert landscaping instead of grass, you should have to just-leave. Literally why live in the desert to have it look like everywhere else.
reply

The movie 'The Day After Tomorrow' proves that we won't have lack of water problems in the future but instead too much water in the form of snow and ice. Las Vegas will survive.

Just came back from LV. Such a cringe and fake city, honestly better to go to any other place on the planet. Perhaps only not to Orlando Florida: -)
reply

I fact I learned when I was flying there. Las Vegas is super or pretty small sometimes when people explore in Las Vegas I know we-re there at.
reply

It-s California, who does nothing or very little about the water situation! ! I-m moving to LV in a year or so bc I-m sick of Calif gov -
reply

It-s crazy how BIG the megalomaniac architectures of the 20th Century were and with how limited technology and practices they were built

Never liked Las Vegas. Been there so many times, for work & family whom wanted to visit it. If I never go again that-s a big +!
reply

The found of Las Vegas, standing in the middle of a desert, no water, no nothing, 110 degrees, thinking, -Yep, this spot is it. -
reply

Last Vegas is also the state with the most single mothers who get child support.
The number one reason it's over populated

The drought in 2021 was rough and scary. It was soooo hot without relief and i thought about the drought on a daily basis.
