Want more? Try the buried treasure riddle: You and nine other individuals have been captured by super-intelligent alien overlords. The aliens think humans look quite tasty, but their civilization forbids eating highly logical and cooperative beings. Unfortunately, theyre not sure whether you qualify, so they decide to give you all a test. Can you solve this hat riddle? Alex Gendler shows how. Lesson by Alex Gendler

Not sure if theres a flaw with my logic, but I came up with a slightly different solution. The person in the back says the color hat of the person in front of him. That person now knows with certainty their own color hat. If that hat color is the same as the person in front of them they say their color quickly. If not, they take a very long pause before saying their own hat color. In that way the timing (long pause or short pause) encodes whether the next persons hat is the same color or a different color.

the easiest and simplest solution to this is: Each one tells the color of the hat that the person standing infront of them is wearing(starting from the tallest guy). The tallest guy wouldnt be able to guess his hats color but 9 of them would get the correct answer: ) and even in here there's a 50: 50 possibility of getting all 10 answers correct if the tallest guy's lucky enough to randomly guess the correct color of his hat. XD

What if everyone except the shortest one says the colour of the hat of the person just in front of them (the aliens don't know whether they are guessing the colour of their own hat or person in front of them.
That way they would know the colour of the hat of all person except the tallest and shortest person can say anything as 1 wrong answer is allowed.
Can this be done?

Ask the first person to call out the cap colour of person in front, his own may be right or wrong, but for sure he'll tell the next person's cap colour correctly, and so on, everybody will get to know the answer by the person standing before them. simple

I would solve it this way -
Each proceeding member will see what the hat color is of the succeeding member and speak it out thus informing the succeeding member his answer. Only the last member may go wrong.

All you need to do is say the color of the hat on the person ahead of you. Still 50 50 for the first one, but 100 percent for each other. Edit: Lol. Did this late at night. Sooo does not work.

What if each person told the next person about the colour of his/her hat, would've been much easier and more probably of success without having to do the more difficult even/odd math
reply

Why can't the previous one tell the colour of the next person's hat? Then also only the last person (who starts answering) can go wrong at max and all others will be correct.

Best solution I could come up with gets you 8/10 correctly, the others involve luck, sorry guys, I can only save us in 75% of the universes.

If it actually happened Ill just show this video. or google it, since it isnt against the rules because you have 5 mins to prepare.
