Lightning is not electrical, It's not dependent on clouds, it will flash not arc. It is a life force energy. The electrical presence is only skin deep, a skin effect if you will. Lightning does not need a conductor like copper to direct its flow it can easily travel down what would be considered insulating materials. It has no electromagnetic properties, such as AC or DC currents.
