Can you solve the false positive riddle? - Alex Gendler
video description
In the second case you have a probability of 3/49 11 (for all except queen and 5) and the additional probability of 2/49 2 (if your first card was a queen or a 5) which also adds up to 37/49.

While the expected value of this bet is in fact negative, about -200, whether you should take the bet depends on how willing you are to take a big risk. Probability only tells us what will happen on average. What we decide to do with that information is up to us. I personally wouldn't take the bet or recommend someone else take it, but it's not difficult to imagine people properly understanding the probabilities and still deciding it's worth it to take such a bet. Of course, the fact that the guy is obviously trying to trick you might make you not want to take it just for that reason.

for some reason i thought he was trying to buy it from you rather than sell it to you, I logically deduced how unlikely it was to be unobtainium, but for some reason I still thought i shouldn't make the deal. i pressed play, confused as to why I came to that conclusion, but thinking (maybe i pieced something together and lost my train of thought. i guess i was right?

Youre more likely to have a pair if Amy has 2 queens because only one pair has been taken out of the deck. If you simplify it to only queens and 5s there are 4 pairs. QQ QQ 55 and 55. If Amy has QQ there are still the other 3 pairs. If she has Q5 there are 2 pairs and another Q5. I hope this is right.

This one is actually incorrect. Theyre confusing probability with chance. Each possible rock that you could mine is its one percentage. This one is still bad deal, but a better one. There is a 9% probability that you will get unobtainium, but while the chance can be estimated, you can never tell for sure

Dude, I just wanted to say that I think I have the solution to the bonus riddle. It would be the first one, since she already has a pair, which means all the other cards have pairs. If she had a different card, two of the cards wouldn't have pairs. I feel dead smart now.

Have him blast it again and again and again if it keeps coming up positive either he has lied about his machines reliability, he tampered with it, you have the worst luck and it isnt unobtanium, or its unobtanium.

Last riddle: You have the same probability of having 2 of the same cards. Unless you're pulling from the same deck, her cards don't affect your odds. Even if they're the same deck, one card would still be missing

I'm stuck on the fact that a piece of UNOBTANIUM is only worth 1000 dollars. Again: Unobtainium.
Also, other minerals would be worthless? What if he finds, like, some diamonds or something?
