Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Working in Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, he began his career as a neurologist before pioneering the discipline of psychoanalysis, and his influence towers above that of all other psychologists in the public eye. But was Sigmund Freud right about human nature? And were his methods scientific? Todd Dufresne puts this controversial figure on trial in History vs. Sigmund Freud. Guys, It's a bit disturbing to see Freud in this video. First of all, psychoanalysis developed its methods apart from scientific psychology, out of the academy. There're many discussions, even nowadays, about the classification of it. About Freud's mistakes, everyone who studies his work agrees about the way he dealt with some patients, BUT at the end of the XIX century and the beginning of XIX, psychology didn't have any psychological approach. He had to create and structure his methods almost from zero. During his lifetime, he assumed many mistakes reviewing and criticizing your theories, and after his death, many other respectful men and women improved what he let to us.

He had to make his theory scientific in order to keep up, even at the expense of the people he was supposed to help. I agree its solid philosophy or social theory but its just not science. He misapplied his own ideas to fuel his ego which in my mind makes him wildly unethical. Im grateful for his discoveries but he should not be revered as a science, nor as a character. That dude had major issues himself

Maybe next they should do History vs Marie Antoinette. Was she a self-centered, materialistic snob who willingly ignored the needs of the people and drove the country into bankruptcy with her excessive shopping, or a scared, naive girl who was used as a political pawn without any say of her own, and thrust into a position where she had no power to help, even if she wanted to?

I'd like a history vs someone during the middle ages, pretty much all of the videos in this series are about figures in either early modernity, modernity, or classical antiquity.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Where do you come off putting people on trial who cannot defend themselves? You accuse Freud of being an egotist when you do this? Total hypocrisy.

4: 16 Actually, when the judge makes a joke, you laugh. It makes you more relatable to the judge, and they'll tend to like you more.
