Anyone born and raised in the Anglosphere and Western Europe in the past 65 years has only seen the Royal Family as the epitome of the solid establishment, it's rather surprising to realize H. M. the Queen and H. R. H. the Duke of Edinburgh as the younger generation in conflict with their elders. But this of course is the fundamental way that life goes for all human beings, no matter what their royal or non-royal status maybe!

Queen mother thought she was the Queen poor Prince philip for 10 years of his marriage the Queen mother would not move to Clarence House. she put prince philip down all the time excluding prince Philips mum in photos etc there she was wearing a load of diamonds. she reminded him constantly he had no home until he married her daughter. she was very possessive wanting to be Queen forever. selfish woman. uk

Put it brutally blankly. not unexpected to know. from the standpoint of the British throne specially at that time, Philip did not have a title of his own, not enough noble lineage. no personal wealth to speak of. Hence, most likely, the late beloved Queen Mother saw that Philip had nothing worthy to bring to the marriage with her heir to the throne daughter. except his capability to produce children.

Not sure Mountbatten is going to last too long! Charles is the heir, so Windsor, Annes kids are Phillips, Andrews kids got their hubbies names? So that leaves James son of Edward and Harrys boy, possibly his daughter. Bloody fool, did he really think the house of Windsor would take his recently adopted, anglicised weird name? I do think Philip was a force for good, but not the name, sorry!

I believe that the Queen Mother's attitude to Prince Philip was based on envy: Prince Philip was a royal prince, the Queen Mother was not of the blood royal. She was an aristocrat.

I always got the feeling that Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother was jealous of her daughters reign. Obviously she was devastated by her husbands death, as anyone would be, but I think another part of her was upset at no longer being the main woman in power and in the spotlight.

I see someone saying Philip was handsome, he was NOT and his teeth were terrible. Narrow headed, balding and pale he was far from handsome. Any looks in the RF come from Elisabeth, to be precise from her father. Queen Mother lost what looks she had after marriage.

Prince Philip couldnt have happened at a better time. I think the QM liked being bowed to. One would think Queen Mary would have been most sympathetic to Price Philip, being a royal prince. Then again she was able to boot one of her kids from the royal fold.

Prince Phillip was so full of himself he figured he would walk in and change whatever he pleased. He must have known Elizabeth would want to carry on in her father's footsteps. She adored her dad and she lost him quite young.
