This whole documentary is a disgrace. Starting from pair of some filmakers that want to make a movie (cash in) on some story heard from a friend, going into levels of Peter Jackson and his wife making a 100 page book like Hobbit into 3 part almost 9 hours movie just to cash in more as director and screenplay writer. Editing is tragic, repeated close ups and cheap effects all over the place. Then thing is shady, as far as i know diving into sunken u boots that sunk with crew on board is forbidden as they are marked as grave sites, no matter what secret mission would a U-479 do if it was rammed it sunk with around 50 people aboard so its an obvious grave site and should be left alone by law unless it can be proven that crew left that U Boot when it sunk. We hear more about Baltic sea and diving team not the first thing that should be checked, literaly that diving team breaks law by diving to that U boot and team selection looks like they know it as we have one guy with 1000 dives that avoids camera and interviews and some hobby diviers that have 700 dives that are sharing all the details and quite probably dont know that they tell out loud they were diving in places they should not. If they know a rumor about quadrant then just take a small boat and sonar/ underwater radar, mark the site and poof all done, even hiring divers to look for an U boot should be a red alert as its illegal.

Well that's an hour of my life wasted. Other than some flash by commentary about Stockholm, Helsinki and a few other places I learned next to nothing other than that wrecks last a lot longer in the Baltic than other waters. The bit about the Vasa was interesting but totally irrelevant to the subject on hand. If it was any worse I'd label it as click bait. Not worthy of Timeline.
The real story here is that one ex German submariner has made it his life's work to document every German submarine's history. Kudos to the 82 year old gentleman. I hope he finds someone worthy of taking over his very extensive research.

Unsure if the title is, as they say, merely click bait, but the title is betrayed by this video's content.
Wasa is interesting, but I first learned of this herculean feat of retrieving the Swedish battleship way, way back in the early 1960s in a National Geographic magazine.
Best to move on to something else UBoat related.
However, not wanting to be entirely dismissive of this program, I want to acknowledge the pleasant sounding voice over and a worthy film where they talk about Baltic maritime history both underwater and above on the surface.

If you are into 'wing it' sports wreck diving trips in the Baltic sea, then you may get something out of the drawn-out three parts to this. If you are a military history buff, then don't bother Nothing is remotely answered regarding U-479. This team had next to zero intel, not strategy to search, poorly executed their trip and relied basically one one local and their knowledge who wasn't even in their team. The local had been searching methodically for years - so they could have just made a phone call and effectively had the same result.

Sorry, I just couldn't watch such horrible film making, especially misuse of video effects like excessive; y speeded up film action for walking, driving and any thing that moved was speeded up in high gear. What's with the video effect that makes the modern video footage look like old faded scratchy film being used for 21st Century modern day scenes? Because one has video effects on a cam, doesn't mean to use them.

My wife and I were newly married when we visited Sweden in 1970. We saw the hulk of the Vasa during it's restoration, i. e, it was kept waterlogged so as to preserve the wood. This year (early 2022) my daughter and husband, and my granddaughters visited the museum. I had them send pictures and videos; we felt like we there with them seeing the Vasa in restored condition.

I think this would've been so much better if there wasnt so many sounds, and graphics. It takes away a lot of the docunentary: feel and I can barely sit through the color changes and flipping around. I enjoyed what the doc was about, but I probably wont watch the others if they are the same.

I don't know why you guys are referring to Narvik regarding U-711/Blackwatch. Ship was sunk in Kilbotn, outside the city of Harstad. Which is 1, 5 hour drive from Narvik. Also one of the worst docu's I've seen on Timeline. 55 minutes of my life and learned nothing

I don't suppose you would help me show the world an ancient standing forest, in a river, in NW USA? I found it, while diving, (down to 30 ft) for Search and Rescue. (I've had orientation training in Commercial Diving, for understanding, and, a plan.

Admire and glory are not words typically used to describe a maritime disaster due to a yuuge fatal flaw in stability design. One of mans FAILURES, not achievements. Don't forget the 30 people who DIED from the mistakes of the designers.

This is a classic example that more does mean better. Despite the fascinating topic the editing and narration is mind numbing. Which is a shame because it is an injustice to the interesting individuals and diving involved.

Came for Story about The U-479. got a lot more. than this Uboat. for Crying out Loud. Timeline though you guys were alot better than this. how did this become more about anything, than the Missing German Submarine?

Lovely documentary, but why am I having my ears blasted by a full-on electric band in the room next door. I can barely hear anyone speaking. Please can you ask them to do their band practice somewhere else?

Seems counterproductive to have to carry you're own special prop when you need to summon the repair boat to swap it out. Too many chiefs in a teepee? Brilliant people shy on the common sense front?
reply

I believe that it's at about the 33min mark that you hear the divers/documentary makers talking cooly about the possible benefits of filming someone else's trauma. Science marches bravely on.

Whoever mixed the sound for this vid had a strongly overinflated sense of the music's importance. The music tracks interfere, constantly, with the video's narritive and flow.

Such an interesting subject, but all this motion, split screens, fast forward action. why? The subject matter is pure meat, non of this ketchup was ever needed.

The Finns have a hang for hilarious films, I wonder if theese guys had their share in Iron Sky. Possibly they are aquinted with the Leningrad Cowboys.

I'm going to review my U-boat videos to try and catch a glimpse of the extra prop, can you tell me where it's located in the boat? Thank you
reply

This video just drags on and on aimlessly with too many non-relevant sequences. Over 90% of this video has nothing to do with U-479.
