Unlike A Bones, I will complain about the sound. The audio mix is appalling with the English translations near drowned out by the original German speech. Either A) have the Germans speak for hemselves with English subtitles added, or B) mix back the German speech so it does not overpower the English translation by the narrator. This video gets a Thumbs-Down from me.

If that crazy Stephenson women wants us to think about the bereavement that German women went through in WWII perhaps she should think about the 6 million men, women and children they murdered. in gas chambers. That is of course not counting the millions of men killed in battle in a war that the Germans started.
reply

Whoever did the sound here was an amateur (or out to lunch. You don't keep the volume of the (German) interviewee at the same decibel level as the (English) voiceover. When you do that you can't hear either one. They just drown each other out. I couldn't hear anything the German women were saying.

This is an amazing documentary! The music was beautiful like an orchestra was following around each filmmaker this is showing us the extraordinary care, love and enthusiasm these women had for their country. It's interesting seeing through the eyes of those women, even if It's a travesty.
reply

It seemed that these women had basically the same feeling. What makes them jews, or nazis, or whites, or blacks is men. I Think the perspective of women and men will always not the same. Nowaday statistics prove women's life expectancy is better than men's. Love you all.
reply

Not only is the music too loud, but when the German women are speaking the sound should be turned down because it mixes with the person speaking English, you can't understand what is being said. The editor should be sacked, don't they check the finished programme

War was necessary because we had no living space. Wonderful strong women nonsense! Inexcusable to portray these women as supporters of noble country. They supported and apparently still support and excuse the cause of the most evil regimes in history.

Imagine conscription in the US today! Even if it was for a war, the people would kill the government before the enemies. The enemy would win for sure, as disorganized boobs killed their neighbors who had cooperated with the govt!
reply

Would have been a wonderful documentary but music far to loud drowning out the real people being interviewed and making it impossible to concentrate. The English spoken at the same level as German was horrible and just a mess.
reply

Regardless of what they (taught, it's what the seen with their own eye's is the bottom line for me. Holding onto that thinking while watching the brutality on the street's sums it up, collaboration in Genocide.

Who's the idiot who tried to layer English translations over German-speaking. Now instead of not understanding German I don't understand anything. Sounds like a room full of people talking over each other

Kelly Starbird you are so right! That story of him saying to her, I've come 15, 000 miles--I' m not going anywhere. That is true love. I feel so happy for her. We should all have that in our lives.

The woman recalling her experience of being in the concentration camp orchestra. then playing the accordion for this present day documentary. I don't know how you could ask someone to do that.

The lady at the end and that afro american soldier coming back after the war is a Hollywood Movie. .Jus my two cents. Have NO idea what the others are complaining about with this soundtrack etc.
reply

This is such an intimate look at those who where the future back then. How heartbreaking, revealing and confronting. I can only imagine how it felt to experience it firsthand. Godbless you all.
reply

The audio is virtually unintelligible, the closed captioning feature is unreadable. Please, have a little more respect for what would have been a great documentary before presenting it.
reply

This is great, except the sound. When they do the voice overs, the sound of the German speaking person is still to loud so that I could hardly hear the English translation. Frustrating.
reply

Great documentary except for the parts (& there are many)where one cannot understand what is being said with the music, the German language AND the English translation altogether!
reply

Whose idea was it to play German and English translation together and RUIN A FANTASTIC collection of images and fascinating subject. The obtrusive music is the final straw.
reply

Unfortunately history always ends up repeating itself. or rather, we always make it repeat itself. The sad thing is that we can NEVER say that this will NEVER happen again.
