A new insight into the story of Giacomo Casanova. A true son of the renaissance, Casanova was a musician, a cleric, a spy and a lover. He led a tempestuous life where he amassed and lost fortunes, invented the National Lottery, fought duels with Counts, and had the most famous love life of all time. This dramatised documentary series is based upon a collection of letters left by Casanova in the library of Duchov Palace where he died at the age of 73, all but forgotten by a world that he had charmed, amazed and shocked only a few years before. The letters were catalogued by Bernhard Marr in 1913, but with the outbreak of World War I, were again forgotten and never commercially published, available only as tools to researchers. These documents are actual correspondence between Casanova and his lovers, offering a completely unique perspective to his story Roaming: So he was romantic playboy n was having syphilis with Mercury treatment. oh. how many women were infected by him. or may be these diseases were quite common then.

He was also a most amazing writer. His love life turns out to be a bit of a joke -- he fell in 'love' with beautiful women and then abandoned them about two weeks later when their novelty wore off, only to begin the process once again. It becomes tedious fairly quickly. However, he had an exceptional memory for detail, a most interesting life, and wrote one of the most stunning memoirs even written. Read it rather than watch this. The best edition by far was edited by Willard Trask.

Was surprised when you had 2 useless episodes on this subject. Very disappointed that there was 3 episodes of this dribble love novel. Not engaging for anyone with a brain.

Seems he was a really horrible human being. It's a little disconcerting that these men talk about him as if hes a charming gentleman that they're fond of.

What exactly is the point of this so-called documentary? It comes off as just a bit of very outdated tittle-tattle.
