Im very positive they do have descendants. Im sure their families ancestors have ties with the Miao and the Hmong. China was land to my ancestors which today are the Hmong and Miao. We have a long history with the Chinese way back and before they even appear to the land where they called China today. It was told by our ancestors that we fought 10 war with the Chinese and lost the last war to them. When we lost the war the Chinese killed off any male on sight and took the women. The Chinese burned everything of ours and made a new history for them. Thats why today scholar in China called the Miao Ancient Miao. Our history was told by our ancestors not in paper. When we lost the war some still stayed in the mother land while majority left and migrated to Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Burmese and in 1975 majority left to the USA after the secret war that my fathers and uncles had help fought the war with our great general vang pao.

Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to get to nowadays tho? Helicopters fly in much lower, more precise and more dangerous conditions every single day rescuing people from mountain tops. Just take a helicopter have people repel down to the coffins. Maybe even lower a platform and load coffins onto the platform and then lower them onto the top of the mountain to be examined before replacing them. I just think there are way easier and much quicker ways to get to the coffins then crossing a heavy current river and then climbing straight up.

I'm from the Applai Kankana-ey Tribe, Sagada, Mt. Province, Philippines.
According to my ancient fore fathers and mothers, there are two reasons we hang dead elders on cliffs and shoving it in caves, one is for the spirit of the departed is to be closer to heaven and for the spirit to look upon the living descendants and guards it from evil spirits from sorcery the second is to protect the body from dogs, rats and wild boar from digging and eating the body, also defilement and looting of body and it's belongings.

Our ancestors may of been primitive in some ways.
But you have to admit they were very handy and able to build and do things that would give OCEA and modern engineers a headache.
Our ancestors use to navigate huge distances with just the stars, while we depend of GPS to navigate town.
We may have the internet, but our ancestors had sheer grit and a true knowledge of the land.

Actually glad the Chinese are exploring their history like this, for so long they banned anything like this. Give it up for the archeologist there, not speaking English but wearing a NYPD hat, the Chinese usually understand western culture before western understand Chinese and it shouldn't be that way but it is, and the governments do not help in this separation

I was privileged to see the hanging coffins and find out about the history of the Bo people 12 years ago when on holiday in China and we were cruising up the 3 gorges. We also drove through amazing scenery which was like being in another century. China is such an amazing country with so much incredible history throughout the millennium.

Problem with archaeology, you are desecrating someone's grave. Is whatever that you figure you will learn worth that indignity.
Other problem with archaeology is the diggers and tomb raiders don't see much need to explain. It is for knowledge and to get me tenure

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.

Maybe they are related to the Mountain province tribes in the Philippines who were found by Spaniards hanging their coffins around 400-500 years ago.

Why do they assume they climbed up? Couldnt they have repelled down from the top? And then lowered the coffins to the awaiting limbs to set them on?
