In the 1991 Gulf War the American 2nd Armoured Cavalry Regiment drove into a sandstorm. How did they overcome Iraq's elite Republican Guard blind? Wild: I have always wondered why the commanders kept the advance to such a slow pace until I watched this again. I was a reserve major attending the USAR Command and General Staff College at the time of Desert Storm. I had attended the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Ft. Knox in the early '80's and we studied tactics for both the M-60 and the M-1. The big difference was the M-1 moved about twice as fast as the M-60's. I'm betting the commanders that were keeping the advance slow were veterans of the M-60 and didn't fully understand how fast the M-1 could move so they kept it at a pace they understood.

2: 42-I read Dr. Pollack's Book ARABS AT WAR. He blames the Arab army losses on incompetent junior officers. Richard Marcinko (famous Navy Seal commander) said the same thing in his book ROGUE WARRIOR. He says that in third world countries, the officers are playboys from influential families, but the soldiers are peasants who get treated like slaves. You end up with unmotivated troops and terrible morale. I think this is the reason why Latin American countries can't handle the cartels; the officers are incompetent and the soldiers have no motivation.

this wasn't a battle it was shooting fish in a barrel.
The Iraqi T72s weren't real T 72s, the were shifty knock offs.
The T72 used ERA (explosive reactive armor) for protection, but the Iraqi T72s didn't have thst so the used low grade construction steel plates for extra protection, but it did very little to stop an Abrams APDS.

4thBn, 82nd FA, fire support artillery for 2nd CAV, 3rd Armor divisionDesert Shield, Desert Storm, and Provide Comfort. I cant believe it has been 31 years ago already. I was a brand new staff sergeant at the time, seven months time in grade, section chief of a howitzer I had never seen before, lol.

This encounter had not been a battle. it was about beating somebody up!
25 casualties, 6 of them KIA on the 'allied' side.
I would call it a massacre instead. Nothing to be proud of because the enemy forces did not have the slightest chance.
You can call it a gun practice instead.

Don't be a sucker for the Left's evil plan to destroy America's vast and secure petro industry by providing 'free' solar power devices and services, enslaving America to CHINA, where they are manufactured, forever. Death is too good for him but, thankfully, his time is about over anyway.

General Schwarzkopf was a 100% better general & all around leader then Powell.
No military stands a chance against the US military machine as we once had. Now we have the wimpy cowardly Obama appointed high ranking officers. We are doomed as the last free nation.

I do remember all the prisoners, thousands of them, just super happy to give up! I also remember being somewhere when a unit tried to surrender and their men behind them open fire on them shooting them in the back as they attempted to give up.

American armored forces used speed to simply disoriented the enemy, they couldn't believe the large of armor could be advancing so quick.
. almost.
Like.
. I dunno.
. Americans created the blitzkrieg that day.

But bill! The Iraqi army is the 4th largest army in the world.
Yeah but after the 3rd army, there's a REAL big drop. The 5th largest is the harry Krishnas, capable of taking over your local airports!

DC doesn't make money unless armies are killing and or dieing. Or riots here or planted viruses mandated vaccines, inflation. on and on, the commie cons never end. Blame it on Trump or Putin.

The UN talked President Bush into not allowing General Schwarzkopf to finish Saddam and the Republican Guard. Therefore we had to go back and everyone knew we would have to go back.

It would be interesting to hear Iraqi soldier point of view on this battle. I like some of the wwII documentaries where German and Japanese soldiers tell their point of view.

Narration at sound level 2. Great battle music at sound level 22. Guess I didn't get much of it. Looked nice though. Great music. Thumbs down due to getting the audio wrong.

Give thanks that it wasnt organized like Vietnam. The President kept pressuring the General to attack, to which he replied, I will attack only when we are fully armed.

The last great fighting General not a politician soldiers boots on the ground General H Norman Schwarzkopf there will never be another they're all basically politicians now

A T72 is was and still is no match for an M1 Abrams. With an 1800 meters range of the main gun it was just a sitting duck. The Abrams main gun easily reached 2, 5 km.

I truly appreciate your vedios, but please, why is the volume so ridiculously low? Maybe I'm just an old fud, but I would like to hear the nation. Call me old fashioned.
reply

As I remember it the Republican Guard did not get completely away, they got caught on the road by the air force and it was not a good day for the Republican Guard.

Great presentation, hoping you can increase the volume of the background music just a hair, can almost hear the dialogue. We don't want that to happen, do we?
