My husband loved Bob Ross's shows and watched them intensely. Thing is, while Bob Ross's paintings don't sell for much, my husband's consistently brought in six figures or more. Bob Ross has no paintings in any major galleries, but my husband has two works on permanent display at the Guggenheim in NYC, which remain there 20 years after his death. My husband never painted a happy tree. So why did my husband love watching Bob's shows? I suspect it was that sense of peace, though he watched the show with intensity and never came close to falling asleep during them. It may also have had to do with Bob's love of animals. My husband and I were always strong advocates for animals. One other thing about my husband was that he loved teaching, and he particularly loved teaching kids. He was also a big fan or Mr. Rogers, and I know that his approach with kids, especially young kids, was one of soft spoken kindness. Perhaps he was studying Bob Ross's soft spoken ways of teaching because he knew it would be the best approach for teaching. My husband's style of art and Bob Ross's could not have been more different, so I think it was his teaching style that my husband was watching rather than his artistic abilities. As a teacher, Ross was a genius. He made people want to paint, since he was never an over-dominating presence. He did what every teacher aspires to.

This whole time I thought Bob was partially Black because of his hair. Also, growing up in a strict, no worldy entertainment allowed household, his show was the only one I was allowed to watch for many years. Painting nature scenes was one of the only safe hobbies I could have (I wasn't even allowed to paint people for fear that I would start expressing and depicting corrupt desires, so he not only provided me with entertainment but with a hobby and an escape. I used to fantasize that Bob was my father because my stepfather was the opposite of him- not at all relaxed, kind or open minded. I will forever treasure Mr. Ross.

My favorite show the weekends as kid was watching Bob Ross! I remember watching him in complete amazement of what he could do with an empty canvas. Adding reflections to the water here, a happy tree there. Decades later I still watch the reruns. I do on occasion try to listen while I sleep. But find myself waking up to how he completed his paintings even though I have seen all the episodes a thousand times lol. RIP Bob you are truly an inspiration!

Bob Ross was a prolific painter who created and starred in the popular PBS television show
W R O N G, ,,
I beg to differ, but the fact of the matter is that Mr. Ross STOLE his technique & presentation
style from the PBS Television Show by William Alexander.
Mr. Alexander developed the technique & HIS PBS program which preceded that by Mr. Ross
and his shady business associates by many years.

It sucks this man was such a important icon of his time. He made people feel so good about themselves and that they too could create a masterpiece. Now days things are so much different which is sad. I got to grow up watching some Bob Ross back when TV's had antennas

I used to get home from school, turn on his show and it would instantly put me to sleep. I took countless naps over the years while Bob's show played in the background. His voice was so soothing. RIP Mr. Ross and thanks for all those happy healthy naps!

I remember after launch the whole family gathered in my parents room where we'd open their TV and watch Bob Ross. Sadly, I'm greek so the episodes where always dubbed (luckily the voice actor had a smooth voice as well.

Watching him painting his wonderful nature scenes and listening to him talking all the while is like a medicine that restores my weary soul. So thankful for what he gave to us, for what he gave to the world. RIP Bob Ross.

Love this video and Bob Ross! I do have to say, however -- the name of the famous artist is pronounced as Claude MOE - NAY. Not MAH - NAY.
Surprised you wouldn't have known this!

Found a Bob Ross car air freshener on the garbage can at the gas station recently and put it in my car. Truly a happy accident!

I grew up watching this man. I'm not a painter, but a chef. His attitude towards art helped me to love creating happy little dishes that touch all the senses

I remember finding out he was my cousin. That was a memorable day for me. Especially that I grew up watching him. Sad to know he died a year before I was born
