D. A. R. E. Was a Bigger Failure Than Most People Realized

The D. A. R. E. program, which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, was a staple of childhood for millions of American children in the '80s and '90s. It set out to tell kids about the perils of alcohol and other substances, but there was a catch: it didn't work. The D. A. R. E. program's effectiveness was measured many times during the first decade it was introduced, and it was found to be both costly and ineffective. People became so passionate about the idea of D. A. R. E, however, that they were willing to overlook its many shortcomings. When you look at who started the D. A. R. E. program, its failures and continued use begin to make a little more sense. Los Angeles police officers founded it in conjunction with school teachers, rather than researchers and behavioral experts. The architects of the initiative believed that telling kids to just say no and showing them how substance use and alcohol could negatively affect the body would lead to lower rates of consumption

Politicians use these programs to funnel money to other things, that inevitably line their, and their family member's, pockets.
Now that most are in on it - thanks to the explosion of democrats who have become corrupted by greed and power, and the take-over of the FBI and DOJ - They are literally untouchable.
But hey, as it is in all things - the less you know, the more you pay -in dollars AND freedom.
Programs like these were invented to create more revenue for other projects. and bank accounts.
This continues because most people are not conditioned to think critically, anymore.
It' actually funny how it's much easier to get larger numbers of people to do just about anything than by smaller groups. Thus, elections are usually determined by the amount of money candidates have to promote themselves. Maybe one-day, everyone will have critical thinking - but I hope not too soon because it' hilarious to watch.
They should make a program called OATS - Opiates Are Too Strong. Lololol
. with a stern warning that No one should ever feel this good.
Whatever. there's no such thing as a National program that isn't used as a front for politicians to gain access to tax-payer money. But it won't be fixed because too many people have been conditioned to believe whatever feels good.
We're still evolving. we'll get there, one day. And then future generations will look back at us and say OMG! They were so dumb in those days!
. because we truly were.

I remember cops coming into my elementary school and showing us weed, meth and crack pipes and having us color pictures of marijuana while asking all the kids if they seen any of those plants at their house and told us all no one would get in trouble for telling. One kid I heard told the cops about his grandma and the cops went and arrested her. Crazy

I vaguely remember dare from when I was in school, but what's stuck out to me was a more recent encounter with someone about a year ago outside of a gas station wearing a dare shirt. they were, supposedly, fundraising. we ended up getting into a small discussion about the potential mental health benefits of things like shrooms.

I like to think that the dare program is a classic case of you need to understand your audience.
Personally i learned fast about not smoking and drinking from experience
Being involved in multiple car accidents due to drunk driving and well accidentally being burned by a cigarette leaves a big impression

One time they had this big dare speech thing in a building for multiple schools mine included I don't remember a single thing they said. All I remember is being bored out my mind and playing with this ball and jack thing I cared around with some other kids from the different schools.

Little 5th-grade-me saw the MRI scans of what alcohol does to our brains and thought that it was permanent My mom doesnt drink and my dad drinks recreationally a couple times a year, and I FREAKED OUT when my grandma offered him wine on New Years. I was an interesting child.

The girl who wrote the best 5th grade DARE essay, and got to read it ALOUD IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE 5th GRADE CLASS, is now the biggest pothead in the entire class. Furthermore, one of the substances they said to say no to IS NOW LEGALIZED! Ridiculous.

The funny part about this video is that the wall was working. Biden stopped building the wall and enforcing border laws, and look what we got.
I guess people who were against the wall have something in common with people who liked DARE.

When I was in 1st grade, the 5th graders were in a D. A. R. E. program and I'm so glad I wasn't a part of it. It probably would've ended up spiting me into wanting to try it
Edit: This was in the early-to-mid 2010s btw

Defiance is in human nature, if you tell someone not to do something (especially at an age where you want to rebel against authority, it will have an opposite effect basic psychology
reply

Yea, yea, DARE sucks.
But did you say, teens who learned keeping it Real tend to use to deal with all their stressful situations?
I mean that sounds like a not so good thing.

These programs are so lame. The only cool part I liked about the D. A. R. E program our school had was we got to go to paintball land for free at the end of the year.
reply

It works so well, that now that those kids have grown up. They're to cowardly to deal with life circumstances, so they just avoid them. Great job REAL program!

Ill never forget the police officer holding a board with 1oz. cups glued to a piece of wood in high school. The smile on my face was like walking into a strip club.

You should look into the fad of boot camps for first time offenders. A 90s trend that failed spectacularly to reform delinquents.

The egg, the skillet, the egg in a hot skillet. That is timeless stuff. I used to recreate that every time I fried an egg.
