I have my doubts. Already Im not the best of swimmers because I barely do so and I feel I would be in Second-Class. Sure its just over a thousand dollars, so its a bit much, but if my Mom and I can have a TV, a car, two IPhones, two Macbooks, several books a PS4 and a Nintendo Switch, we could manage. Currently Im 18 years old, so I wouldnt be allowed on a lifeboat on the Port Side. Maybe I could get lucky like fellow Japanese passenger Masabumi Hosono who I might become friends with just because he is the only other Japanese man on board, but I doubt that. My best chance would be to jump into a lifeboat as its lowering down, though I have to be careful with my timing. Too late and I risk breaking something whether I land in the boat or not. Too early and if I do land in the boat, I might get thrown out back onto the ship. If that doesnt work, I would attempt to use something as a makeshift raft because Im not rushing to the end of the ship like most people. Any person can tell that is a death sentence. Presuming you dont get knocked out in the rush, you have to hang on for dear life and not fall to your death and thats before the ship breaks in half. Presuming the raft works and Im not crushed by the falling smokestack or Titanic, I would look for the closest boat and try to paddle towards it. The Collapsibles are my best hope since two of them ended up being washed off instead of lowered. If Im lucky itll be Collapsible A and I climb in. If not, itll be Collapsible B which is capsized, so Ill stick close by. There likely wont be room for me, but I may get knocked off my raft by desperate survivors so I might not have a choice. To be honest, I doubt I survive on Collapsible B. So as much as I would want to, I doubt Im bold or clever enough to survive like other people and my gender is just going to get me killed. I find it shocking that it was actually men in Second-Class that got it worse, more than even Third-Class passengers. What is possibly the reason why they faired worse than everyone else? And it cant just be because their men.

My great grandfather John Thompson survived the icy cold water that night by managing to climb on collapsible A which was collapsible lifeboat that had drifted off into the sea after it was flooded. He described the feeling of the water hitting his body just like in the movie - like a thousand knives stabbing my body all at the same time. He said I knew if I gave into the cold my arms and legs would cramp and I would be unable to swim, and before long my mind will freeze. So at first I kept moving my body to heat myself up. After 3-4 minutes it became quite. All the noise and screams had stopped. Everyone around me had either drowned or had frozen to death. I looked over the motionless corpses of other passengers and saw a small glimmer of a 3 dimensional object floating on the water about 100 meters away into the distance with people standing on top of it. I swam towards it with every ounce of life left in me and climbed on.
He managed to stay on until a life boat came and took him off. Later he realised he had broken is arm when he climbed onto the Carpathia. I didnt feel the pain in my arm because the cold had made my entire body numb.
He went on to live a good long life but always had nightmares about that night until the day he died.

Considering I'm from the north, I am accustomed to swimming in cold water. and I travel alot to the northwestern states and enjoy swimming in cold alpine lakes & ice cold rivers. I even swim during winter. Based on my income, I would consider myself 2nd class, so I would have better access to the dock than the 3rd class. If there were no available life-boats, I would have no problem wading in the icy ocean, but not sure for how long I could endure. The longest I swam in icy water was for about an hour, but I believe I could make 3 hours before I went numb.

If I had time to save up for a few months I might have brought a 3rd class ticket and Died bc I'm a guy. Fortunately it's unlikely there would have been time to save up. I don't know but I'd imagine even 3rd class ticket sold real fast. Anyway, I'm not one to seek luxury or try new fancy rides that are hyped up so I believe I would have instead brought a ticket to a cheaper ship so I could have money left over for other things. And possibly to a ship where I could afford a second-class ticket.

The gates were NOT locked stopping third class friom moving around the ship! They were open and the third class passengers were just the most unfortunate in their location. being mostly at the back of the ship they did not feel the impact and did not know anything was going on until it was too late and the people who did know on time quite often got lost trying to make their way out because the ship was like a maze! No gates were locked!

There is an exhibition a few hours by train from where I live in Cornwall, UK and that is at Southampton, where the Titanic sailed from.
However I really want to fly to Belfast to see the museum there, as that is where she was built!
Incidentally, I might have survived, as, although I would have been in steerage, as a woman I would have been given a place in a lifeboat, as long as I managed to find my way up to the boat decks!

Well, to be perfectly honest in my humble opinion without being sentimental, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in distinct perspective and without condemning anyone's view and by considering each and everyone's valid opinion I honestly believe that I vividly don't have anything to say. In fact, i forgot what i am about to say. Thank You

I'd have definitely survived. I wouldn't have gotten on the ship in the first place, lol! I have a terrible fear of deep water, so no cruises for me. If my feet can't touch bottom with my head out of the water, I'm not going near that body of water. My fear of drowning is too great. That's why I've never gone to Europe. I won't even fly over large bodies of water. Nope nope nope!

I believe a 2 year old girl by the name of Lorraine Allison was the only first class child to die. She died with her parents because allegedly they were searching all over the ship for her infant brother. Unbeknownst to them the baby was already safely aboard a lifeboat with the nanny. That seems to make it even more tragic.

Always remember that scene in the titanic movie where the third-class mother tucks her little kiddies into bed and kisses them. She knows that the ship is about to sink, and that they have no chance getting on the lifeboats. So she does what she can to comfort them.

As someone who exclusively flies Frontier and Spirit Airlines despite realistically being able to afford more, I probably would've screwed myself over by buying a cheaper lower class ticket to save money. It may have saved money but it probably would've taken my life

A Night to Remember (1958) is the definitive Titanic movie with Walter Lord interviewing 50+ survivors from the sinking for his book. And it made for a very accurate movie. Sure beats a Titanic movie about a fake love story while using the disaster as a backdrop.

I would have survived Im a good swimmer and tolerant to cold water. I went on vacation to Maine in May and jumped in the lake 51 degrees. Its a lot better than the water of the North Atlantic but still I was the only one crazy enough to jump in and swim around.

I definitely would of gone down with ship ( not because of money ) but because there is no way in hell I would leave the love of my life husband! He is that sort of man that would of made sure ALL the woman & children were off the boat first!

I could definitely not afford it, but if I was in the first class Id be the one that was swimming in the pool and didnt realise the ship was sinking until it was to late.
Did they have inflatable pool toys, maybe float away on one of those

It's good to know that I would've survived as I would've likely travelled second class due to my job & income. Good for me, at least. Since I'm a public servant, good for others to if you think of it that way.
