So. you're hashing this the wrong way, regardless of unit of measure. The temperature drop was a global average of 1. 6 to 2. 5 degrees, compared to average temperatures.
You are right in trying to explain that though it doesn't sound like much, it is vastly overshadowed by it's average designation. Where not everywhere on the globe did they see temperatures in the 30's, they likely saw heavy impacts on their average temperatures. For example, where London may on average hover around 70 to 80 degrees on a normal year, they may have seen temperatures in the 50s or 60s. But places along the equator, likely only saw a drop of around 5 degrees from their normal averages.
These problems were likely compounded in higher lat. locations and places of higher elevation, where temperatures likely plunged below 0 and into the negatives.
But you can't just translate celsius to fahrenheit and slap that designation on a temperature drop.
(addition) If you were to translate the temperature drop correctly, 1. 6 to 2. 5C drop translates to around 2. 8 - 4. 7F drop of global temperatures.

This is why it is so important for Us to have Children and carry on our Family line and Family Name. Our Ancestors fought dreadful wars, battled disease after disease, Lived through terrible poverty, faced starvation and many other awful things. They suffered so We dont have to in Todays modern climate, they went through all this but still managed to get Us here Today. Thats why I think its a shame when a Family Name just dies out like so many do in Todays age. I know it sometimes cant be helped but when family surname dies out with the Person it belonged to because they had no Children or Male Nephews I cant help but think of all the blood, sweat and tears throughout the hundreds and hundreds of Years but the Family line survived and kept getting past down to generation after generation who faced new battles and fights each time but that name survived everytime until it just died out in a instant. All that effort for it to be gone in a moment, its just a shame.

Indonesia would kinda surround the volcano being an archipelago with sunnits as told. Yeah, living pretty much anywhere in the mid-6th century AD must have sucked more than life typically does. Nature was throwing a veritable fit. The fact that so little of it was understood in any scientific way must have been terrifying for the people living through it (or the millions that died. They didn't know how volcanism affected climate, or that it's effects were temporary. They didn't know how plague spread, or how to medically combat it, or, likewise, that it was temporary and would eventually fade. To see such horrifying conditions stretch on for so long, must have been so terrifying and demoralizing for the peoples of those times. Awful.

To go from that as the worst year to be alive and then 700 years later, to have the worst century to be alive in the 1300s as the time when the Great Famine occurred, followed 20 - 25 years later with the Bubonic Plague/Black Death to decimate something like 60% of all of Europe's population for the best documented evidence of that century. Rough times to be alive, but humanity managed to survive.

None of us lived in 536, though. We lived in 2001, 2008, 2016, 2020, and now we're in 2022; so it's OK to say this is the worst year ever, since it's in our current lifetimes where it matters.
