What Giving Birth Was Like for Royal Mothers

For as long as it's been in existence, the royal world has been special, elevated above the mediocrity of regular life and filled with the pleasures and privileges of divine power and influence. And even though the practical function of the monarchy has become mostly symbolic, the public fascination with its office certainly has not. So, for example, when Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to the newest members of the English monarchy, public curiosity about her experience was boundless. But alas, the details were not so thrilling, as she and William apparently greeted their precious new bundles much like any average citizen in the privacy of a clean and well-lit room with just a few medical attendants nearby

In fact, the only reason Queen Victoria was even born was because her much older first cousin, Charlotte, died in childbirth. Princess Charlotte was the heir to the British throne. She had no siblings. She had a very long and grueling labor. They sliced her arms and bled her. The baby was born dead and she died of hemorrhaging. As a result, there was no heir to the British throne. So there was a baby race among all of Charlottes uncles to produce an heir. Of the babies born, Victoria was the only one who lived to adulthood and she became queen. So really, none of the Royals who are alive today would even be alive if Princess Charlotte had not died in childbirth, because they are all descendants of Victoria. Thats how much these royal pregnancies affected history.

Shame that so many women are not aware that having a pain free birth without medication is possible! There are techniques to getting through birth only feeling pressure and intensity rather than pain. I havent mastered it yet, but I have gotten through 2 births unmedicated, and I only felt pain during transition, which is the point right before pushing. I wish more women were educated about it because this type of birth also decreases tearing!

The notion that the female organs are lesser doesn't just offend my modern sensibilities, it offends logic itself! The female reproductive system will always be the most advanced evolutionary system! Male genitalia are so redundant that men don't even technically need penises to reproduce, and many male animals don't even have them. These ancient philosophers are so in love with maleness. Figures, they were all gay.

Despite of massive deforestations, blooming business of fertility clinics and threats from pronatalist zealots- humans finally have taken the basic minimal step towards population control by accepting fetus-abortion at least at child-bearers' will. In the next step same should be legalised worldwide for biological fathers too

When they had a baby was born she would have to have a nother women care for the baby she would have just had one herself or lose one. She would breastfeed the baby and care for it.
Queens and any women that had money well say, did this. So they could keep up with her self. And say looking good, longer.

My son would not have survived in another century. I had an emergency C-section, and really emergency, so they put me to sleep and he was born within a few minutes of discovering that he had trouble getting oxygen. So I am really grateful for our level of health care now and we are both happy and healthy!

I had an audience at my birth. A man who played rugby with my husband at college/university, three women he knew from those days, an anesthesiologist who was a friend of the family and other nurses who came to see my baby's head of hair. in utero. He really did have an amazing head of hair when born.

After 3 unmedicated childbirths, I can confidently say that the pain of childbirth was one of the most wonderful things I have ever experienced. Being so close to death brings forth new life. The idea that it is to be feared robs mothers of the opportunity to have such a beautiful experience.

Mothers did attend their child's christening, an example would be Queen Jane Seymour who was married to King Henry the 8th, she attended their sons christening but did die not long after, she would have been unwell as she did die from complications from childbirth, possibly an infection

I think everyone has an audience at their birth. At one point during my sons delivery my husband told me there were about 20 people in the room with us. I never noticed, too busy doing what I had to do and couldn't have carried less what the rest of the world was up too.

Royal Mothers in western Europe, part of eastern Europe. Don't think all royal mothers were subjects to the same circumstances all around the world. And no, the first statement is not implied in the title of the video. An invitation to deseuropizar history.

Ugh, imagine going through the most painful and private experience of your life. and you have an audience of 200 people watching as you push a baby out of you. The lack of respect and privacy makes me shudder

My Ob/Gyn was a professor at a major med school and often taught during a birth! Yes, you guessed it. I was a lucky one. I think I counted 17 young men when I was wheeled in. I did not feel like a queen!

I don't have a very good pain tolerance, and I can be kind of mean when I'm in pain so no I don't think having a birth in front of an audience would be a very good idea in my situation. Nope I'm good thanks.

As a woman who gave birth to her son unmedicated and without pain relief, I cant imagine giving birth in those times. I ripped, I bled so badly, I felt like I was dying.
God thats so terrible.

9: 40 the doctor viewing the woman's urine involved tasting it. Don't believe me? Watch 'The Madness of King George or any other medically driven docu-movie or historical documentary.

As a boy who has an alder sister:
When she heard in pain you'll give birth to children she said:
HA, IM GONNA ADOPT ONE WHAT Y'ALL GONNA DO ABOUT IT?
this cracked me up

Birth is not really about a woman being naked it's about a birth of a person. People being born is exciting. We were all born once, babies grow up to have babies; that's life.
