Rarely have women in history played a more deliciously mysterious role than that of the 600 years of the Ottoman Empire, when what is modern-day Turkey and lands from the Balkans to Syria sat at the center of a great Empire. These were the days of the harem, when women - and girls as young as seven years old - were held in a secret world where they could be governed, educated, and primarily enjoyed by the sultan and his court

Investors should invest in largescale dormitories exclusively for females from birth to have kids when it's their school at the same time worksites for different types of specialties or till they got married. Dormitories proposed are castle types in the 21st century for them to be respected at all ages and have status symbols ready to be recognized as attractive women and intelligent, future rulers too.

I think a harem was such a place in which women were educated. Their education involved many aspects of their female nature. They were taught how to use their sensuality as well as to read and write. Also, They were taught how to master their skills in order to appear helpful. They were not just women for fun, but also they could serve as a consort for any member of the ottoman nobility.

Dark skin Black eunuchs were also preferred over white eunuchs because the women in the harem were usually white, meaning the sultans were usually light skinned and therefore any black eunuch who somehow managed to impregnate a white concubine would quickly be caught out as the baby would obviously be mixed race and not be the sultans

Id like to see videos on the harems of the Ottomans contemporaries in Safavid Persia and Mughal India. From what I understand, royal Mughal women were known to accompany the emperor on hunts and campaigns, and the harem was guarded by specially trained female soldiers called urdubegis.

I think they should include the reins of Gulnus Sultan (Haseki of Mehmed IV. She had extraordinary influence over politics during the reign of Mustafa II (her son) and then again when Charles XII sought refuge in the Ottoman Empire during the reign of Ahmed III (her other son.

If you look at the images in this video, you can easily understand the thoughts of Western Europeans about Turks (physical appearance, culture, language. Unfortunately, we still deal with these ridiculous perceptions today.

What happened to Sultan's daughters and their mothers? Harems were depicted as pleasure house but think of the sorrow and bloodshed when a new sultan came into power and murdered all his half brothers in a single day.

How awful these poor women not allowed to marry and have husband's of their own. Can't imagine having to share my husband. I am sure none of these women allowed multiple husbands.

The actual Ottoman harem was a den of snakes and murderers. If the Sultans spent more time emptying out the harems rather their own own brothers insides the Empire would be alive today.

Love how naive the narrator is and how he thinks that women don't scheme in order to manipulate the views and desires of men. they got what they wanted more often than not, lolz.

There are dozens of really stunning paintings shown here. Some of them I recognize, but not most of them. A list of them and their artists would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the images you used to depict black eunuchs are actually of North African and Arab merchants and sultans, not slaves.
reply

Speaking of Eunuchs, is there any weird history about people having 2 genitals?
Made me wonder after some cultural research.
