Mark Twain Was More Interesting Than You Thought

Samuel Clemens (the real name of author Mark Twain, is one of the most well-loved writers of all time, certainly up there with the likes of Ernest Hemingway, William Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and Charles Dickens. But for most, the details of his most famous works (The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn) are more memorable than his biography. In truth, Mark Twain's life story was in many ways as dynamic as the adventures in his books: he traveled widely, underwent his share of tragedy, collaborated with Nikola Tesla, and was even said to be a dead-on-the-money psychic

One of my favourite quotes of Mark Twain's is. The man who does not read, has no more advantage over the man who cannot read. I think that's a brilliant comment from this very interesting and talented man. Is it any wonder he was such a great story teller and writer. This was a man who didn't' even finish elementary school, he left in the 5th grade. He could not have been more than about 11 or 12 years of age, yet through his own reading and self learning he goes on to become one of the greatest authors in American literary history. Man do I respect that. I think this particular comment of Twain's is profound in its implications. Thank you so much for this video.

That one red rose story. Chills.
I had a similar dream about a friend of the familys 3 year old child. 2 years later a tv fell on her in the early 2000s when tvs were still heavy. She was trying to change a dvd out, her sister had walked out of the room 2 minutes.
Ive had nightmares about it all my life. One of which Im laying with the child in the casket and as the lid is closing I climb out of the casket and she doesnt. Ive had nightmares about it for years man. That shit happens and it plays with you the rest of your life.

If you would Actually read History you would Not say that Twain was an Anti Slave Liberal. In Fact the Leftist Democrats Now Calling themselves Liberals Fought the Civil War to Keep there Slaves.
And Have Been Using the Black People's Plight Every since for Political Gain.
If you doubt this Fact. Tell Me What have the Democrats Done for the Black Population Ever?
Best Wishes! M. H.

Mark Twain has been called the father of the speculative fiction genre Alternate History. (A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court) He also claimed to have been the first author to use a typewriter to compose a novel. He also wrote one of the first Sherlock Holmes parodies (or maybe it was fan fiction)

as a German I love his travel in Germany and his describing all the details of the horrible german language. In many quotes I slapped on my thigh and laughed yeees, also how he says ants are vastly overrated. He really had a great sense of humour and Huckleberry Finn will forever be my favorite hero

There was a period when I read Huckleberry Finn at least once a year. It was amazing how much it changed as I got older. It wasn't until I took a college course devoted entirely to Mark Twain, that I learned an entire chapter of the book had been censored for years due to his hatred of slavery.

Just finished reading Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. What a fantastic and humorous satire of the early Middle Ages. Highly recommend it. Very enjoyable. Reminded me of how great a writer Twain is, so I've got both Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn queued up on my to do re-read list!

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. My childhood favourites. . And added so much to my
Sense of humour.
. Stage Coach: ' he drew the curtains, and it was as dark inside of a cow'.
I learned a lot from his books, Esp the innocents abroad.

There is one also attributed to M. T. that I really like - In our country, we have these three indescribable precious things: the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice any of them.

Funny both Twain and Edgar Allen Poe were associated with the name Snodgrass. Twain considered using it as a name and Poe was found on his deathbed by a man named Joseph Snodgrass. Snodgrass is my mother's maiden name.

This video has missed out an important fact which is that Twain did not believe that Shakespeare wrote the plays and sonnets attributed to him. Like many very intelligent people he found the that idea ludicrous.

What a life. .. Mark Twain is da man with all the stories at hand, he needs no editor, he doesn't even need a publisher, he's great with a pencil and a pad, he's a genius writer who touches Shakespeare hand.

He changed his birth name, so obviously was either ashamed of his heritage, had a perception that a different moniker would benefit him financially, or with perceived additional and or improved recognition!

Probably made him poop. When my kids was little and was constipated, I'd put them in a bouncy seat that had vibrating settings and usually within 15-20 minutes, they would fill up the Huggies, lol!

Twain was a talented author, yet his personal life is as much a fiction as his writing. He was the biggest self-promoter of his time, sandwiched between PT Barnum and Teddy Roosevelt.

Mark Twain is my great, great, (however many greats) uncle. Also the strange premonition dreams thing is interesting. I guess it's a family trait, because both me & my dad get them.
reply

Wow what a life he had. I knew nothing about him and I don't remember if I read any of his books in Lapland, Finland when I was a kid. Amazing person he sure was.

Man I just love the spiritual and mystic life of Mark Twain and all the intellect. I would expect that him and Nikola Tesla would have been good friends
