Imhotep The Egyptian Polymath from The Mummy

The Mummy franchise traces its roots to the 1930s, when Boris Karloff portrayed the historic embalmed character at the height of the Universal Classic Monsters heyday. The first film, made in 1932, framed Imhotep as a mummy carrying an ancient curse. But Imhotep was a real-life priest in ancient Egypt, and he wasn't anything like his character in The Mummy movies. So who was Imhotep? The real Imhotep lived around 2600 BCE and was one of the first recorded geniuses in world history. He was an engineer, a physician, a politician, and a priest. Over the course of his life, he worked his way through the Egyptian ranks to hold a key position in the governments of two different pharaohs. He was also the mastermind behind the first pyramid

The Egyptians very early assembled their municipal deities into an elaborate national system of gods. They developed an extensive theology and had an equally extensive but burdensome priesthood. Several different leaders sought to revive the remnants of the early religious teachings of the Sethites, but these endeavors were short-lived. The Andites built the first stone structures in Egypt. The first and most exquisite of the stone pyramids was erected by Imhotep, an Andite architectural genius, while serving as prime minister. Previous buildings had been constructed of brick, and while many stone structures had been erected in different parts of the world, this was the first in Egypt. But the art of building steadily declined from the days of this great architect. Ref. The Urantia Book

Why y'all lie so much and turn the pharos into white people when you know that the picture on the walls of Egypt plus there DNA test results says that they are black people the Arabs invaded Egypt they are not really Arabs either there were an invasion if you test all the Africa Egyptians which you will not there DNA test results will match the mummy's but y'all keep lying and refuse to test the black Egyptians but they tested one in the United States and he was from the direct line of pharho the 3rd infact all the black Africa are the real Egypt but racism and white people ashamed of there own history that they want to share in a history of the past that never ever existed look the pictures of the tomb no white people

Oof! How very dare you? Admittedly, I sort of stopped paying attention after that unnecessary insult on The Mummy (even though this video continuously references both movies that it doesn't like? , anyway it's a perfectly enjoyable flick as well as the sequel. Yeah, I said it!
But then stating Sekhmet as merely Goddess of childbirth annoys me too. So much more to her character than that.

The edwin smith papers don't mention Imhotep anywhere! There is zero proof he was anything they claim, the only mention of the man in his lifetime, is on the base of a statue, it doesn't even confirm his role regards the stepped pyramid, doesnt record him as Architect or builder, and no we dont know he built an irrigation system, because there is no record!

This entire video is nothing but conjecture. None of it is fact. You keep saying he was the one that developed the pyramids but it hasnt been proven when the pyramids were even built. Theres no way they know who built them when they dont even know when they were built. Its an interesting story but not as interesting as the Mummy movie.

I don't know anyone that thought the movies were real any more than Dracula was real. Movies are there for entertainment. If I wanted a lesson on mummies, I'd watch a documentary about it. That said, the Mummy series was a lot of fun and millions of people loved them. So who peed in your cornflakes to make you act like this?

Actually the pyramid structure design is waaay older than the designs such as Hatshepsut's funerary temple. I believe Djoser was one of the earliest pharaohs much before Hatshepsut.
The Imhotep in monster movie The Mummy wasn't THE Imhotep. Movie Imhotep served Seti the first who reigned very long after Djoser.

Omg! I remember i was in 6th grade when movie came out n i went to my neighbors Halloween costume party all us kids were deff scared! luv the movies! my middle school history teacher told me i was gonna look like the beauty when i grew up. ya nope i think shes gorgeous! not here! lol

Imhotep didnt build the first pyramid. The great pyramids were around thousands of years before he was born. He was the first recorded architect for a pyramid during period a time when people forgot how to build them.
Even then, he couldnt build them like the pre-dynastic Egyptians.

Im a year late to dunking on the opinion of Weird History about the mummy though am glad everyone in the comments agrees the Mummy is a classic. I guess we were all children when the film released. Whereas Weird History must have been in their college age where they dunk on films.

I feel bad about the way Imhotep has been maligned. A truly great man is being remembered as an evil villain. The movies were of course were fun, but people need to remember not everything you see in the movies is real. In this case its all very very fake.

why the afrocentrists are trying so hard to link ancient Egypt with them (blacks)? come on guys stop embarrassing yourself. I mean how could egyptian be black while they are surrounded and always in contact with people who are not(berbers, semitics)?

1999 Mummy is the reason why i got soooo hooked up with mummys and Egypt lol. that movie is one of my fave coz its soo intriguing plus its fun to watch and has lots of adventure. i still want to binge watch all of The Mummys movies until now haha

He helped the Pharoah regulate food and water during a seven year famine. There is another mythology other than Egyptian where someone worked their way through the ranks to become chancellor to Pharoah and helped during a seven year famine.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a video about Imhotep and not a movie review. There was more in this video about the movie than the real life Imhotep. I usually like the Weird History videos, but this one was a bit of a let down.

Too much about the movie should have stuck to introducing him as the guy who was depicted as the cursed mummy in the movies and then going into the actual history. Don't keep bouncing back and forth not a good format

This fool. I used think the most annoying thing about his videos was him ending every video with, So what do YOUUUUU think? Now his opinion of the Mummy has surpassed even that. I will literally fight this dude.

The Anastasia movie is every bit as bad. Nicholas II was an arsehole, Anastasia a domestic violence victim yet thanks to that revolting film a completely different story has taken hold in people's minds
reply

For someone who hates the 1999 Mummy so much, the writers (and by extension, the narrator) sure did bring it up a lot. Like, we know the movie isn't historically accurate, bruv, chill.
reply

We have to study Imhotep in historical architecture classes! I thought his name looked familiar here I wish this video focused more on him and less on the plot of both Mummy movies.
