Do a video about K 129, the sub that inspired the hunt for the red october and made the US create the most elaborated black ops operation (Project Azorian) to retrieve it.
That sub was highjacked by KGB to strike the US and blame the Chinese, leading both countries to start a war and letting the Soviets breath for a while. However the plan backfired and that incident was fundamental to the end of the cold war. Long story short, the Americans retrieved all the bodies and wanted to return them to Moscow, but they refused to acknowledge that the sub was even missing. The americans had to made a sea-burial on their own and film everything. Some years later they gave the footage to Boris Yeltsin who was very touched by that and even cried. He realized then and there that the war was useless and both countries weren't getting anywhere with all the lies.

I feel sad that in the beginning of the video you don't say WHY soviets put missiles on Cuba and just briefly mention it. US put missiles in Turkey prior to the whole incident, Turkey being a NATO country as close to USSR as CUBA was to US. So to the soviets it was evening the odds so to speak, and US being shocked as they were always smelled of a double standart for me. And knowing that actions of main hero of the story sound even more self-sacrificing. US placed missiles, was shocked when given the same treatment and then bombed the soviet sub. It's a miracle that this guy was so believing in the good of humanity as he was.

I've been obsessed with weird history since I discovered it over a year ago. And I love what you're doing and keep it up. Up. The time line is one of my favorite. I'm looking forward to seeing the seventies. :)

The Cold War was basically feels like 2 dudes at a bar arguing about whos wiener was bigger, threatening to flop it on the table, and their buddies with them at the bar trying to de-escalate the situation until last call and everyone sobered up and realized how dumb the whole night had been.

Very little of thid story is historically accurate in spite of having been propagated extensively. That whole story falls more under the category urban legend than it does actual history. There are so many factual errors in this video it would take hours to point them out.

Arkiphov and Stanislav Petrov both saved the world from annihilation. I always believe these Soviet men decided against war because they likely recalled the devastation of the Great Patriotic War, and they wanted to spare the world from similar suffering.

Dont forget that it was the Americans who put nuclear missiles in Turkey first. The USSR was only matching that move. And in the end they matched each other by removing the missiles, but of course the Americans didnt let that part get to the media

Great video as always. But one glaring mistake is the image at 2: 06. That's a Royal Navy Astute class hunter killer submarine. Which began commissioning around 2010. Nearly 50 years after the events in this video.

How is it that I first time hear about this? Why was is not taught at school? I heard about the Cuban Crisis before, but certainly didn't know it was this close. The same with the second case.

There are a list of Soviet officers that at some point disobeyed orders or protocol preventing nuclear war. A US training exercise almost triggered one and faulty soviet radar

I think that you would have to make a strong point in that, one of the reasons for the URSS sending missiles to Cuba, is that USA already have missiles in Turkey.
